  • hahahaha!!! i kept one as a pet for a while. i recently found out they are venomous.

  • Damn dude you got ballz

  • Those hognose snakes can act so tough, I use to think they were little rattle snakes. You prod them a little, then they go all goofy. Weird.

  • It is so cool

  • 1:50

  • why would you do this??? i mean if you happened to have a camera when he happened to be scared fair do's but you are purposly provoking him, annoying him and laughing??? your sick in the head!! Yes I have a hognose (and loads of other spiecies) and no he has never been so SCARED to do this. Try it with an anaconda or something pal, see if your laughing then, asshole

  • @loopyloulou83able go troll hard dick... he is showing how they play dead it isn't going to do it if he asks politely now is it. you thick fuck.

  • LOLL omg that is sooo funny. i read about this but i didnt think it was this legit haha. way too cute!! i cant wait till i own one. i never thought id own a snake untill i met my exes hognose, we adored eachother, so im def getting one :)

  • Bwhahahaha!!!

24 people wish that teh snake in their pants wOOd wake up from teh dead. ;)

  • My hognose is about3 feet and I guess I toy it on command now because everytime I say play dead it does.funny

  • come on fluffy! come on! play dead! good snake! ^w^ lol

  • I cought one of those once and y are yall tormenting him

  • This so makes me want to get hognose....greatest bluffers in the snake world!

  • Dramatic much? reminds me of when I was a little kid and we thought your tounge had to stick out for you to be dead.

  • 0:57 reminded me of when i put salt on worms

  • ".......venom is injected and poison is ingested." not going to lie...i just learned something. thanks! =] i felt like that was from School House Rock. haha

  • They are so dramatic when they *die*

  • these snakes have some cool defense responses

  • Lol that snake is such a drama queen

  • screecwe, lighten up. This behavior is part of the snake's normal repertoire, and there's nothing unnatural about allowing it to exhibit its own nature. It might be somewhat stressful to the snake, but stress is part of the life of all living things, even pets and humans.

  • ohh i'm dying ohh i'm dying. oh. i'm dead.

  • Heh...it took some teasing before it finally did it...

  • that is actually really cool, great defence mechanism for this snake. I have a hognose and lucky its never done that otherwise it would hate me haha

  • haha i love this video..does it poisonous?

  • i love hognoses. them, corn snakes and garter snakes are the only snakes that live in manitoba, so its a pleasure to see one!!!

  • this is so cute it makes me want cry and laugh at the same time

  • so why are you stressing out the animal? how would u like it if something hundreds of times your size was poking you and messing with you? just dont stress out the animal.. its not good for the snake.

  • @kenhanlon10 Yes cuz animals live a stress free life in the wild where everything is filled with fuzzy bunnies, marshmallows, and butterflies.

  • @screecwe dont be fucking stupid. the last thing that snake wants is to be bothered by some dumb ass fucking kids. im not some fucking hippie that has nothing better to do but than comment on videos like this.. i have snakes of my own, and i know what im talking about.. its just fucking stupid when people do this to snakes.

why stress out the snake? there is no need to do so.

  • @screecwe Alright so im gonna assume that from this snake is obviously not in any sort of wild area, where it is fasted with "stressful" ferocious beasts everyday. If the animal is obviously used to the life of a pet, how would it be accustomed to the life of a Wild animal?

  • I just have to say it, Hognose snakes are SO CUTE!!!!!!!!

  • cool video :) I'm getting one in a week or so. .. i just want to share that these snakes eat toads & they burrow to find them which is probably why they dont really attack im assuming they arent out in the open as much.. anyway im sure he was startled by it but certainly not harmed.. chill out people.

  • Hognose have to be the most unique snakes... playing dead and head-butting is super cute IMO

  • thats a fat hoggy...o.o cute though

  • Hey, this is very interesting, but also very traumatizing for the snake. I have a pet hognose and it is an awesome snake. I would be very angry if I saw someone treating it like that...

  • this snake is very funny i think! it attack with the mouth closed..

  • @TaigaShana0Melon hognoses could be like chihuahuas they are all bark and no bite meaning theystrike with their mouth closed

  • Lol, poor snake has to take a bath now...stupid human

    :D

  • so over dramatic XD

  • stick your finger in its mouth while its playing dead :D haha

    but really thats pretty cool

    And does its bite hurt?

  • stick your finger in its mouth while its playing dead :D haha

    but really thats pretty cool

  • that is so cute

  • OH I LIKE THIS VIDEO I SAW IT 2DAY @ SCOOL

  • I love hognoses. If you notice he only strikes with his nose. I have caught and played with SEVERAL wild hognoses and NEVER been bit, They feint, never actually opening their mouths. Bites are usually because they are forced.

And as for the negative comments, you did not once harm this snake. Those fools have no idea how many IDIOTS kill hognoses thinking they are "cobras" or worse yet, COPPERHEADS. My family has been told "it was a cobra, it had the neck thing and everything" several times.

  • if I poked my ball pythons like that I'd get my face bit off.

  • Quit fucking poking him on his head, snakes are very sensitive of that but that little snake can do nothing but hiss, yet you still persist.

  • Nice video but you'd never catch me screwing with a snake like this. I give snakes at least 10 feet.

  • I HAVE A PET HOGNOSE SNAKE , i tryed to do that with my snake it bit me, there was a lot of blood but i'm ok now =)

  • ROFL ... that's funny ... i just ordered from my friend this snake .. hopefully can get this soon lol ...

  • I had one of these as a pet when I was a kid. Very entertaining.

  • whut it do hog you top choice for straws when all the men leave you girls

  • @Allenburn , what ? are you drunk, foreign or retarded ?

  • he is hiding you idiot

  • thats funny my hognosed snake never did that but one time we had kittens and they killed a wild one

  • he was really angry!!!

  • This is so wierd! Heard about it on Radio Lab for the first time today. Kill Deer birds also do something like this.

  • Hello, my name is Howard johnson and I am the president of the AHSAA )Anti Hognose Snake Association of America)

We are a group of radical pro-garter snake activists that want to inform people about the extremist ideology of Hognose Snakes!

    Just kidding, obviously :)

  • Dont kill it!

  • Lol western are better then Easter I would say they look cooler

  • very funny snake.

  • i dont know much about snakes....but i would never do that lol ,,,your crazy what if it had bit you....funny vid by the way

  • @dcg2496 they have a very mild poison these snakes are kept as pets and wont do much damage if your bitten

  • omg that snake is hilarious. i love that little guy.

  • I like how the guy pokes it a lot.

  • @3022BethSG It's not absolute inhumane treatment. Sure, it's mean, and they don't seem to be doing it for a scientific reason, but it's nowhere near the level you're referring to. They naturally do that, it's a demonstration. Don't flag it, don't support, that's what I say.

  • @3022BethSG Do you think the snake was embarrassed that they laughed at his loss of bowel control? I doubt he heard them laughing, thought you loved snakes? You should know they can't hear. They pissed him off, so what? Snakes don't have feelings. They are stupid and survive on natural instinct. Have you ever seen a snake sad or happy? He'll get over it. His response was instinct just like 100% of everything else he does.

  • @3022BethSG , you are a moron.

  • Wow! as a herpaphile and owner of several breeds of snakes I can honestly say that is a disgusting display of rude behavior towards a living creature. Was this fun for you?? Irritating a creature in order to film its instinctive defensive behavior is abhorrent. Bad form.

  • @3022BethSG Herpaphile? You meant Herpetologist I think? So freaking sensitive some people are... The snake experienced a little stress that's all.

  • they are sooo cute. there are a couple at my local repetile store but too expensive for me. <3

  • Hognose snakes are great. I dont understand why idiots want to kill them

  • "Oh I'm dead......dead snake...."

"Flip him back over, right back on his back!"

So FUNNY! Poor snake though...hehe... :P

  • that's pretty damn cool

  • is it venomous?

  • @TheTortDude95 No they are not venomous , although they do posess a very small bit of toxins in its rear fangs to help subdue their food, if its alive. As you can see from the vid, Its a snake that is very reluctant to bite humans even when threatened. Its probably the coolest and humorous snake to own as a pet.

  • hahaha, hooding, striking with its mouth closed, playing dead! i so badly need one of em' i think it will be my next snake :)

  • thats really funny and cute

  • hahaha! cute snake and funny commentary

  • aw man that was SO dramatic

  • lol thats cool.

  • Our biology room had a hog-nosed named King Arthur. When I reached in to pick him up first he hissed and puffed out the sides of his head, then he struck at me, and finally he played dead. I picked him up and he hung limply from my hand. He was an awesome snake.

  • =D Hognoses are so cute

I have a western hognose, i havent be able to get him to play dead yet. I dont want to frighten him to much though, he might become unfriendly.

  • pssssst anyone can play dead, i want to see an animal that pretends to be alive when it dies

  • Many animal's nerves make their bodies twitch after they are dead, including humans.

  • @UberMetallMaschine yeaaaaaa, mee tooo ,

  • @UberMetallMaschine I heard sloths can hang on to branches for weeks after they're dead ;-)

  • @Yidenia they look dead all the time though

  • @UberMetallMaschine Try the Spectacled Caiman; those things can still attack you even days after their deaths, although the attacks are purely reflexive. They're another fine reason not to go swimming in the Amazon, other than the Pirhanas. In reaction to this video, however, I must say that it's pretty cool to see a snake play dead. I didn't even know they could.

  • @UberMetallMaschine ironically there are lizards who drop their tail on the ground when attacked and the tail begins to spasm, tricking the predator into thinking the tail is still alive and part of them. so it's kinda possible xD

  • @TheImmortalWeapon heh, well i guess that's the best we'll ever get

  • @UberMetallMaschine nope, that's the best so far :) who knows what evolution has to offer?

  • your such a sick fuck go drink a bottle of bleach and die!!!!!!

  • wow funny! lol but what if it bit you?

  • thats an easter hog nosed snake i belive :D

  • eastern*

  • actually they do have fangs and you can have a reaction to their saliva... Not nice to harass them, but it's cute when they play dead...

  • i will laugh when he bits u

  • stop doing that! shall i punch you like if u were da snake and i woluld be you...you are stresssin da snake to much you damn motherfucker!i hope ya die asshole

  • wow, you hope he dies just because he's poking a snake. hypocrite.

  • Don't you have something better to do? If you're an animal rights person like me, you'd protest against factory farming. That is the cruelest of animal cruelty. (PS - Cute Snake)

  • bunch of hipis here, more we know about snakes the less chanse it we kill them. as far as i can tell people kill any snake when they are close to your homes but many of them are not poisones they to no harm at all.

    sorry for shity english

  • you shouldnt do that stupid

  • i got one too ,but pushing him about like that might make people complaine,,at that they are a very cool snake

  • My little male shows his little hood when he senses the fuzzie.

  • This is a great video demonstrating the intimidation response, etc., that is displayed by the hognose snake. I am a biology professor and I use this video in my ecology class on predation defense mechanisms. You didn't harm that snake at all, and your video is educating future environmental biologists.

  • @PurdueAg

I will make sure you get fired

  • @PurdueAg but the nake did deficate all over itself becaue of him lol

  • @PurdueAg Yes, I agree! I would love to be in your class, if you show videos like this! :) You must be a very intriguing professor.

  • @PurdueAg Boiler Up!

  • @PurdueAg Aren't Hognose posionus? I tink they are.

  • @rseagles14 No they are not poisonous....because no snake is poisonous. However, the hognose snake is not a venomous snake. They are pretty gentle also. Just remember, venom is injected and poison is ingested.

  • @chevyck2500 Actually, the hognose has a mild venom from what i've read. But, they are gentle and the venom isn't dangerous to humans.

  • @chevyck2500 Yes they are they are rear fanged and not dangerous to humans.

  • it has no fangs its one da harmlest snakes in da world:)

  • he aint killing it take it easy ;) looks cool when they play dead.

  • Shit, people are annoying as fuck!! no wonder many species are going extinct.

  • Seriously.. what are you doing!? You have no reason to stress the snake out like that. How would you like it if some random person punched you over and over again?

  • Are you serious? Get over it...I could see if he was slitting it with a razor blade, get real. Awesome how these creatures play dead, very cool!

  • You obviously have no respect for "these creatures" at all.

  • lol the end got me "flip him back over, right back on his back!" ha!

    hes such a cutie =D

  • U do no thats venomous i got 1

  • it looks so cute wen its squirming into a play dead position

  • Just saw one from a canoe in MI. Great little actor hissed and puffed and stood head straight up, scared the crap out of us! BTW, he was a great swimmer too!

  • I just found one infront of my door tried catching it and it smelled horrible... wait do these things have fangs?

  • The disguise themselves with their waste to help convice its attacker its dead. Yes, they have fangs though their in the back of their mouths for prey mostly toads.

  • Thanks cause I found out the little snake was really a copper head

  • welcome

  • fuck you, leave the snake alone you pricks

  • The snake would strike at the air, but not bite you when you touched it. lol. hognoses are so cool. But be careful!

That snake is also called the 10 step snake, because if it bites you, your dead before you take 10 steps, highly highly

    VENOMOUS! Jk. thanks for sharing.

  • lol

  • Great demonstration. Thanks for sharing.

  • "I like to stress out animals for fun, I bet God is proud of me!"

  • how else will someone find out about an animals defense mechanism? dont tell me you want to be ignorant about animals that live in our world, what happens when you get bit by a snake and you dont even know what it is called because no one wanted to "stress it out" so they didnt bother learning about it?

  • hmmm, abuse or discovery. what an inrtuguing descision to make

  • Thats so cruel just poking at it.

  • Is that your hognose? Your voice is annoying btw lol , "Right back on its back, flip him over, right back on his back!"

  • this is a nice video, thanks for making and posting it

  • hahahaha...oh it stinks^^(1:23)

  • spasm snake

  • Great video. These are cute and harmless snakes but lots of people kill them because they assume they are poisonous (fangs and puffing throat does not mean viper). Venom is harmless (unless you happen to be a frog or toad) and this video does a great job of showing their defense strategy. Great job.

  • do they bite hard?

  • They rarely bite but Im guessing they do since its a snake with fangs...

  • rear fangs..

  • U R STUPID ITS VENOM

  • no they are not

  • dude ur going to get sick from thar bite

  • wow it bite you does it hurt

  • they dont bite, the head but you with their nose it doesnt hurt to bad unless their big

  • lol it's dead poor snakey

  • Snake?! SNAAAAAAAKEEEE!!!!!!

    Game Over

  • is that wc

  • I absolutely love that display! We had a hognose in class once and someone provoked it. The only problem was the musk stink lingers. LOL

  • ayy does it bite or just head but you?

  • They often just headbutt people, they bluff alot...

  • as a kid these were a favorite species to catch. can't say i have ever been bitten by them. garter snakes and rat snakes were far worse.

  • where the heck do you find hognoses? I have always wanted to catch a wild one but ive never even seen a wild one! I run into cottonmouths diamonds pigmys black racers garters and rat snakes all the time, even a scarlet king once but never a hognose

  • mostly in the eastern area. Though I found one and Im in Oklahoma I think someone dumped it or something.

  • I ment like what kind of place, I know the east, I ment what specific habitat do they live in

  • Oh, then they live in woodlands with sandy soil, fields, farmland and coastal areas.

  • I have snakes, including a hognose. They will not bite, but rather hit you with their upturned nose. Coolest snake i've had to this day.

  • I love your hognose!!!! Its soooo cute! I want one now...* takes a look at her snakes* .... Maybe once I get a good snake rack...

  • I've always wonder, what do scientist think this creature had evolved from? Its so different from other animals.

  • thats tight I didnt know thet did that

  • LOL! I love the added touch of the tongue hanging out. XD That cracks me up so bad

  • snakes truely are fantastic creatures

  • HAHAHAHAHA

snake: i swear im dying!!! i swear it!

  • *poke* *poke* *poke* *poke* *poke*

    *dead*

  • Aw poor thing, interest vid though! A+

  • NICE

  • ah that's awesome, i never have come across one of them - just a bunch of banded water snakes and some garters. nice vid.

  • Haha, little bastard. He likes to pretend to bite, but according to Wikipedia they will NEVER bite in defense unless you smell like their prey. Also, the venom won't harm humans.

So even if you rub yourself with rat corpses and lie on the ground until one finds you, the worst you can get is a small bite worthy only of a band-aid.

Great video! I was looking for some hognose footage.
