Sorry again, my first notice was a little bit rough, i think. It isn`t every time possible on such Shows to find a good Place. O.k., with these never ending Story
@DieterHeindorf I did not include much of the actual landing because there were several buildings between me and the runway. I wanted to film where I could get unobstructed footage of the planes taxiing within a few feet of me, much closer than you can get to a moving pane at most shows. I was at the corner so I could get the full shot of the planes approaching me and then turning to go to the actual runway.
It`s ok, sorry but my English is not very well, too. The Landing is so importent, because it is a very difficult thing with such War Birds, particular the Me 109. I have little Expirience with the P-51 real, and a lot in the Simulation. Please take a Look on my YouTube Channel. My last Vid is about this spezial theme.
Eigene hohe Ansprüche in Ehren.
You just know that when World of WarPlanes comes out those damn pseudo-Russian devs will make it so the Il2 will be able to dogfight on an equal footing with the FW-190 or the Spitfire or the P-51D or most of the Soviet fighters will be fantasy aircraft that were never made.
@av8rdav There is a FW190D inside the FHC hangar. Not sure if Paul has it flown regularly or if it is primarily for display. I suspect it has an authentic engine and gets out to stretch its wings from time to time like his other planes do. i did not discover the FHC til this past August, but you can bet I'll be up there for his free fly days all year long in 2012. If I can get it on video you'll see it here.
The Fw190D model is not flown because it is the only surviving and very rare D-13 model. Flying Heritage has stated that they have no intention of flying it even though it was restored for second time recently to near-airworthy condition.
@FiveCentsPlease Thanks, that is good to know. I bought a annual pass to the FHC during their last show of the year (B-25 Mitchells in October I think) and am looking forward to getting up there a few times this year. I had a couple tired kids in tow that day and didn't get a chance to make a full slow-paced walk through the exhibits. That will be corrected soon.
You will have to wait a few years to possibly see a Dora in the air. Three D models are being constructed from a mix of replica and original parts for future flight, and two more are under static rebuild for museum display.
Hi FiveCentsPlease,, to upgrade your info on EADS, they also have G4,not sure if its original or a 'Buchon' conversion? However, i have heard the sweet sound of a 'Real' DB engine in a 'Real' G2 airframe back in July 98 at Duxford,,AMAZIN!!!! will never forget it,,regards Frazz109,
An airworthy G6 and a G10 are owned by EADS in Germany and both were converted from HA-1112MIL airframes. There is rumor and speculation of a K4 project, so perhaps one will emerge one day.
I have not heard the other engines except on Youtube which really is an unfair comparison. I know that the FW sounded much richer and "growly" in person than it does on my video. I can tell you that hearing/feeling the FW taxi by only feet away was quite an experience. The BF109 definitely had a whine to it at near idle. I imagine we will get a chance to see multiple FW190s at a show sometime and someone will post a comparison under the same conditions. But the FW at Paine Field was awesome.
Everyone always mentions the sound of the original engines. I thought there were several flying DB605 engines, and I have read that the Chinese radial most use was IDENTICAL to the Russian copy of the BMW801 with the Russian copy being a DIRECT rip off of the BMW? I mean if the above is actually correct wouldn't the engines sound identical? I mean I can't hear a difference between a European Merlin and a U.S. Merlin, or is what I read about the Russian design ripoff wrong?
The Russian/Chinese radial was not a copy of the BMW 801, but this is often incorrectly stated. It was an improved design based on the Wright cyclone engines built under license in Russia. Several factors affect engine sound: valve timing, shape of exhaust openings, and firing order. The Merlin and Griffon each have a different firing order and sound different. The DB605 has an aggressive cam timing and sounds meaner.
Amazing restorations, and as well two very skilled pilots. I saw the P&W powered 190 at Reno in 2010, and the sound of this one is completely different. Great video!
@MFGKirchdorf It is my understanding that Paul Allen has ensured that these warbirds are powered by the authentic engines. The Flying Heritage Collection's planes are as accurate as possible and it is the other FW190s that are powered by American or Chinese engines
@SteveHeeb You're right: these planes have their original engines. Interestingly enough, the Fw-190 used both radial and inverted-V engines in different variants; this Fw-190-A uses the BMW 801 radial. Per FiveCentsPlease's research, the Bf-109-E "Emil" you see here uses the Daimler-Benz DB-601 engine, a lower-powered variant of the DB-605. But, still impressive in performance and still mean-sounding.
Allen will be taking delivery of a restored IL-2 which has just completed flight testing. It is powered by an American Allison V12 instead of the original and ultra-rare AM-38 engine. It will be interesting to see if an AM-38 engine will eventually be sourced and restored for the IL-2. Some of Allen's aircraft will eventually receive further restoration to meet his museum standards. I don't think his A6M3 Zero has the original rare engine either.
Thank you for your news FiveCentsPlease. At least I know that I was not imagining the FW190 at Kissimee. It is a great video. At age 83 the last time I saw an ME109 was over England when I was a 14 year old boy.
@patpoole1 Pat, at least this time it wouldn't be as scary when the planes flew overhead. Must have been an interesting time to be in England at that age.
While on holiday near Orlando in Flotida in 2000 I visited the aircraft museum at Kissimee. At that time there was anFW190 being renovated. I think that the guide said that the 190 was recovered from a lake in North Norway. I am sure that I am not imagining this and I wonder if the 190 in the video is that which I saw at Kissimee. Can anyone tell me if this is so.
No. The Kissimmee project did a static (non-flying) Fw190 for Norway and is also working on a second airworthy original recovered from a mountainside, which is not finished yet. (Much of the final work isn't being done in Kissimmee.) The Fw190 in the vid above is the first WWII original to be restored to flight and was found in a forest in Russia. The Fw190 from Norwegian waters is another aircraft entirely, which is on display as-found after cleaning in Norway.
Jaw droppingly awesome! Those German engines sound so ANGRY!So much attitude-I'm guessing the Germans were using much more aggressive cam profiles than the British and Americans, along with fuel injection;giving that very different sound.
thats gotta be an 109 E Emil given the clipped wings and Horz stab struts eh?
