@EricMz810 The regular plastic macbook never had them, when apple updated their macbook lines in 2008 the 13 inch aluminum one was still called the macbook. The top model for that macbook had the backlit keyboard. In 2009 they updated it again and changed the 13 inch name to the macbook pro.
