  • Wow so amazing. I was 12 in '67, dreamed of seeing these cars on tv like this and had to wait 43 years to see this!!!! America's exclusive stick and ball sport culture is so hard to take!!!

  • FORZA McLaren!!!

  • Thanks for sharing. This must have been from back in the early to mid nineties based on the amount of hair Dave Despain has. LOL

  • Why did he say "Jim Hall, black guy from gangfighting" ?

  • 0:53 nicely shows the adjustable wing of the Chapparal. Check out how it levels when he exits the turn

  • thanks for sharing.

  • Love it, love it, love it !!!!

  • May the force be with Chaparral...

  • I love the way they call Denny "Hume" all the time, instead of "Hulme".

  • @Rikko40

at least they are quite close :)

If you watch e.g. ALMS on any english speaking channel, it´s really weird how they speak all the German names.

  • Ok thanks. I've always thought wings went out in '68 and Hulme joined McLaren in '68 as well, but all this refers only to Formula 1, obviously.

Gotta get myself more info on Can-Am series.

Thanks again, well done sharing it

  • Sure it's 1967? I would rather say 1968, yet not sure...

  • yes I´m quite sure, because 67 Hulme was having the black numberplate with the white 5 on it, while in 68 he had a white one with black number, and McLaren and Hulme were already the M8A instead of the M6A seen here.

+ it says 1967 in the beginning of this part

  • is that a fucking spoiler.... lol

  • This was a bit before my time but thanks for posting this brilliant footage :-)

  • Then they went to Siebkens.

  • Brilliant!!! Love the reference and how no one has responded to it!!

  • Thanks, Caboose!

  • This is what SPEED should show instead of the CRAP they are now showing!!!

  • Road America. THE BEST track in North America.

  • It's hard to believe how much different the track looked 40+ years ago. Almost none of those trees are there any more.

  • Yup, they're long gone. My brothers were at this race!

  • The actualy track itself (layout wise) is the same. Its one of the few tracks that is still as it was during the golden age of road racing.

  • The last of the REAL RACE CARS!!

  • yea cuz now the all the race cars are fake

  • Great stuff from the glory days of racing, I find the movable wing on Jim Hall's Chaparal particularly interesting !

  • Great vintage Can Am footage of the dominant McLaren M6A #5 of Hulme, Chapparal 2G #66 of Jim Hall, and the Lola T70's of Mark Donahue #6, Surtees #7 and Dan Gurney #36, all racing legends. Also rare footage of Bruce McLaren in pits.

  • Excellent vintage Can Am footage, especially of the dominate McLaren M6A #5 of Denny Hulme, Jim Hall's Chapparal 2G #66 with high wing, and the Lola T70's of Mark Donahue #6, John Surtees #7, and Dan Gurney #36, all CAN AM and Formula 1 racing legends.

  • Great footage -- amazing track.

  • Amazing footage!

  • this is 1967 and these cars a FLING. I believe these were the fast cars of their time. Faster then Le Mans, faster then Grand Prix.

  • No spec racing

I have seen both the modern champ cars and the Can Am cars at road america and the difference isn't all that great

  • u can say that again i wish it was still around and if they did it they cld run some on ethanol per se to keep the eco weeners happy.

  • They used 2 litres to cover 1 km! Awesome cars. They should re-do the series with non-diesel V8's up to 8 liters.

  • indeed.

  • lovely

  • Pitty this series aint't still around
