  • I love the Dead, Airplane, and other SF bands, but Dan Hicks and His Hot Licks at The Boarding House in 1972 was just a crazy night. I had only been 21 a couple of months.

  • Boulder Co 1973

  • I remember this from the Soprano's as well... try "The Piano has been drinking" Dan Hicks version... Tom Waits wrote it.

  • Great music with a nice bowl..

  • Oh this brings back memories of the good ol' days . . .

  • lol@ all the sopranos comments *shakes head*

  • @po3ticTreachery lol @ u

  • Thanks for posting.

The album cover photo was taken on Main dock in Sausalito, CA with MT. Tamalpais in the background wich can be seen by raising the top of the cover. It was a bohemian lifestyle with the likes of Shel Silerstein and Alan Watts a couple of docks south. While others and myself worked on Dan's houseboat Dan would usually bring us a sixpack and put on a stack of records. One day Dr. Hook and the Medicine SHow performed live on the Main dock. Cool stuff when you're 19.

  • Dan Hicks is a stud.

  • Love It !

  • Dan is still playing, still touring, still making fabulous original music. Easy to follow on danhicks.net.

  • They played on the Sopranos

  • Doesn't get any hotter than this.

  • These people are all wonderful musicians and singers, Dan Hicks is a very clever and funny songwriter. They should really be more well known than they ever were. Whenever I play Dan for someone who has never heard of them they are impressed.

  • this is used at the end of The Sopranos episode: Fortunate Son from Season 3

  • i absolutely wore out this record in 1976. LOVE dan hicks!
