This is KILLER but Magic Sam's boogie is my choice between the two. Luckily I don't have to make that choice. Also, anyone else hear just a ton of this in ZZ Top? "I met alot of nice girlz ah..."
My brother and I met Freddie King in the lobby of a Travel lodge motel in Austin Tx after having seen him in concert in Nashville with The Charlie Daniels band Grinderswitch and the Marshall Tucker Band less than a month before. He was so nice !

Freddie King got some recognition but not nearly as much as he should have. The name he used onstage hurt him a lot, since everyone confused him with B.B. King. For a big man, he was incredibly quick and nimble on that guitar. One song his band did sounded like one of the most brilliant harmonica reverb riff solos of all time, hitting every blues twist and turn perfectly. Then you later realize there was no harp player - it was all Freddie on guitar!
The man is an original. saw this band in 1975 or 1976. He was really something live. He didn't disappoint like some legends can. This band is a killer. Listen to the guitar sound kids! No effects. Just a Gibson 355 and a Fender quad reverb.
Eric Clapton wanted to be him. He scared the crap out of most other blues guitarists.
swoody i dont mean to sound rude either but i dont remember ever hearing or seeing you perform anywhere writing orignal songs or being remembered as being a rock /blues ledgend
I don't profess to be a blues rock legend in any way and never have done.. I do however play in a number of bands; writing, recording and performing original songs, as well as covers, blues and rock alike, as well as teaching guitar.
Even if I didn't, what is wrong with trying to give a fellow guitarist some advice? I tried to make it clear that it wasn't my intention to be rude. I was giving what I thought was helpful advice, and advice that I stick to when teaching.
Blues Band Shuffle is in some way alright, but the name of the song is Boggie Funk. (Boogie) Sorry He passed away so early (only 42). Anyway greetings from Sweden
Totally amazing high energy, intense blues guitar. The bass player was Freddie's little brother (probably half-brother). It's cool how he moves the bass neck out of the way for Freddie to get by and leave the stage at the ending.
I love the audiences reaction at the end LMAO they don't know wether to shit or go blind! The Swedes at that time never heard of Yankee Blues before :-P
Saw Freddie King 1973 or '74 at a club. SRO and I was @ 5 feet away from him. Its 35 years later and I still remember the emotion and intensity of that performance. Never seen anything like it, before or since.
Nothing like a little Texas boogie! You can hear Freddie King and Albert King all thru SRV's playing. It's all about HOW you play the notes, and how you interject silence, not about playing as many notes as possible.
I don't mean in any way to sound patronising or rude, but try working it out for yourself; It's only three notes that he's playing, it'll just take a little time and a little trial and error and you'll get it! It'll also help get your ear into working things out, and it'll then be easier to work out other stuff.
I saw Freddie King once when he was one of the opening bands for Creedence Clearwater in the early 70's. Now I know where fogerty got the inspiration for Keep on Chooglin.
Have to differ with you on that. This song and La Grange have more of an Texas boogie feel than John Lee Hooker's Mississippi Delta blues. Similar, but a little different.
Freddie King and Billy Gibbons - both from East Texas.
Looks like a young Lionel Ritchie on the B-3.....Freddie rocked hard and with precision like no other and moved R&R forward as much as Chuck Berry did.....Just didn't have the PR. Really a fantastically talented musician! Thanks for posting!
well it looks like a fender twin reverb (60s black face) or something like that. Maybe a smaller one because he can get a natural OD, very hard to get it on a twin. Chuck Berry used fender amp too.
