At this time there is no way of attaching the reins to the saddle. though, Holm is working on something just to give little bit more controle at the end of a run. you do need a special bow one that is short and accurate and about 35 to 40 pounds.
Wow this looks amazing, I'd love to be able to do this :D Just curious, what is used to attach the reins the front of the saddle? Also, do you need a special type of bow and/or arrows? or will a regular archery bow suffice?
woohoo im in this one! lol... and to reply to you alonerouge, I have found that I can train almost any horse for this with enough time and practice. However, some horses just don't like it, and we don't push horses into it that are not willing.
Yeah, please try out other horses from Inner-Asia, they might be a bit smaller, but they just don't need teaching to shoot from their backs. Such things is only needed when you are dealing with "bred" horses from the "west".
Are you from Bend? I have always wanted to get into this, where do I get lessons?! I used to live in Bend and am planning on moving back to Oregon soon! I've been riding horses for 15 years however I have never shot a bow.
Yup I am from Bend :) The best way to begin is to find a weekend clinic, or take some lessons from an experienced mounted archer. If you are in the Bend area, we are having a clinic near Sisters in July.
Omgomgomg I live in Bend! Where can I learn how to do this!?
