  • Hey Overhazard What is your friend code?

Because I was wondering if we can play

    Brawl Sometime.

  • Lol, that ending was INSANELY close. You can see the monster was just about to bite down on you as well!

  • What's PBR?

  • Pokemon Battle Revolution.

  • when are you going to do some more PBR?

  • Overhazard wont do pbr for another 2,3 days or so.If you you notice overhazard has a line of video games he makes.SSBB,SMG.PBR,and MKW.

  • thanks alex

  • she makes them not he

  • Itemspam!

  • What does GMT mean?

  • 2:08-2:10 button lag sucks

  • The end sudden death reminds me...

You can use items in sudden death. If a bob-omb falls just right on icicle mountain, right when it tips, it doesn't blow up due to the short drop. Unfortunately, I have no replay data to back me up but... eh well.

Oh, and could you post a few more mushroomy kingdom matches? I love that stage.

  • I know about the Bob-ombs, how they land on the ground and you can pick them up. It happened on those matches at Target Test 1. They all popped up in one place on the ground. It also sometimes happens in Spear Pillar on the moving platforms.

Mushroomy Kingdom? You got it. I pick Mushroomy Kingdom a lot, but I rarely get it.

  • I don't know our time difference, but I haven't been able to find you when I go on, even late at night.

  • I think it's a great idea for you to post the times you play these games, especially since I've been wanting to register you for about a month now.

  • I know you play PBR but haven't seen you play pokemon trainer on brawl unless I missed it.

  • There are a few matches where I used Pokémon Trainer. He shows up a lot, but for some reason, only when I'm playing against a bunch of FInal Destinationers.

  • Ill play with u lolz

who knows it might be fun lolz

  • Something I noticed you don't do. When people try to dodge roll on top of/directly behind you, try sidestepping and then going directly into a grab or D-Smash. As an aggressive player I find it's always better to do that bit of damage and set them up for a combo, rather then run away and let them get prepared.

  • I can't react quickly enough to that. Rolling takes less than half of a second to do, and I take at least half of a second to react to something.

  • Actually, it's pretty easy to get the hang of it. Just watch for what instances they usually dodge roll in and slowly get the feel for it. After a while it becomes second nature. You'll know when they plan to dodge roll behind you and sidestep instantly because of it. All you need to do is practice a bit. The only character that Sidestep to D-Smash doesn't work for is snake, and thats because he just plants a mine.

  • Is that why I can't seem to touch experts at this game...

I'm a poor predictor of people. I've been that way since the day I was born. Every time I think someone's going to do something, they do another.

Of course, the flip side to this is that it goes both ways--people I've known have demonstrated that they're utterly and entirely incapable of figuring out what I'll do or say next.

What kind of stuff should I look out for?

  • well for one thing u should predict the way ur opponent moves because they will continue to do the same thing alot if it works on u.

2nd'ly try making combo's of ur own instead of being too direct.

And of course it is wi-fi so u have to predict when to use ur own moves to hit your opponent because it's online play and not offline play when ur moves actually respond immediately.

  • Well, for instance, when someone lands a bit short of an Aerial move and they land right in front of you. An offensive player will either attempt to F-Smash you or to dodge roll behind you and then D-Smash or grab. So under that circumstance you should either Sidestep to F-Smash or if he dodge rolls, the Sidestep to D-Smash. If you're better at starting combos, then grab and throw him towards the edge. If you have a character you'd like an example for, tell me. It's easier to do specifics.

  • Predicting your opponents moves can come back to bite you, especially if you get predictable with sidesteps. You sidestep all the time and if your playing against someone smart, they will start charging attacks, Wait for you to sidestep, and then blast you when you lose your invincibility frames. Or simply use a character who has hit-boxes that remain out for longer than a sidestep lasts.

  • No, If you want to elevate your game, I would suggest the following.

Speed it up: Your movements seam a little slow and deliberate, they don't really flow together.

Adapt: This is sort of like trying to predict your foe, you study each attack and think of how it can be countered should it be done again, or how to fake your foe into doing something punishable.

Grabs: They are useful, learn them =p

Keep kill moves fresh: Incredibly important for peach

Check out tourny vids too, good resorces

  • Predicting your opponents doesn't come back to bite you in the ass. The trick is predict that they'll learn and throw out a different combo every time. What if instead of a sidestep he does a SHFF B-Air? There are alot of possibilities, but it all starts with learning how to pick out what moves he'll most likely use. There's not much you can do to be godly in brawl when compared to melee. Only a few characters kept their obsenely amazing mindgame potential.

  • You talked of throwing out sidesteps all the time. Now your talking about what I was referring to in adaptability, predicting is fine but in the process, don't get predictable yourself =p

The problem comes from when you know your opponent is going to predict your movements, then it becomes all about mind games.

But lets not clog Overhazard's comments with our brawl talk, we can take this elsewhere.

  • My last comment anyways. I was starting him on the course. Sidestepping is how i started out, so i figured it could help him too. Once you learn the basics to it, you sort of evolve it on your own. Y'know?

  • Indeed, Sidestepping is sort of how I got started as a better player too. Spread the brawl knowledge my friend =p

  • I don't mind at all. I'm curious as to how other people get the edge in a game that I've essentially self-taught from ever since I rented the original Super Smash Bros. from Hollywood Video. (I also like how this video reached #17 for "Today's Most Discussed" in the Gaming category.) Essentially, I learn a lot of techniques for every Smash Bros. game, but I find myself unable to apply them.

There's very little I can gather from watching expert videos, as I can't get into their heads.

  • What I got from watching expect videos is not so much trying to do what they do, but understand why they do it.

say Ness jumps at you with an F-air, what are your options? what would an expert player do? are any of your options punishable if they miss?

Using my main of Peach here as an example, my options are: Shield and then grab/jab, Toad, hop backwards and f-air, hop backwards and instant float into a d-air, rolling, or spot dodging. Just to name a few

    --Continued--

  • All of those options have their advantages and drawbacks, its just a matter of choosing which. That's really where expect videos have helped me, seeing different ways of reacting.

I have mostly been self taut, just viewing of expert Peach players to help increase my options.

And the best way to apply them, is to whiff them. It took me about a week to get to where I could float at just the right height. I was constantly punished, but now its almost second nature

  • "Whiff them"? What does that mean? Is it just playing matches simply to get into the habit of using them?

If what I do seems "slow and deliberate," that's what they are. The way it works for me is that I make a move, see what results after it's been played out, and figure out what the next thing to do would be. I have a tough time planning things too far in advance for Smash Bros. because if I mess up, I become clueless and just run and jump trying to avoid everything (usually unsuccessfully).

  • Whiff, miss, mess up, that's basically what it means; but yeah, getting in the habit helps you realize they are an option in a situation. Slowly you have to think about them less, and they start becoming more useful because you pull them off with a minimum of thought.

I say a minimum of thought because if you start acting without thinking, You tend to get extremity predictable

    --Continued--

  • Hmm, with a regimen like that, I'd best begin with something that would apply to all characters, like sidestepping and grabbing. Those are two Smash Bros. concepts I've been meaning to do properly. Shielding and rolling, in fact, was something I only learned to do four years ago, and I had just figured out the air dodge in June this year.

Learning the quirks of individual characters will be extremely slow for me, as I always pick Random. I have to always adjust, but that's why I find it fun.

  • Nothing wrong with going random to be sure. Don't worry about specific character traits for now.

all of the characters play about 90% the same, so as per my lower example, you could swap peach out with any other character simply short hopping a d-air, or running and grabbing/attacking.

Once you start adapting to whats going on around you, it improves all of your characters by a great deal.

  • I moved a lot like you did when I started playing online. The slight input lag you get, even in lagless matches, forces you to plan a bit ahead if you want to move faster.

Plan ahead, but only about a move in advance

    Example:

5:12 in this video, right after you hit Ness with the f-tilt, you froze for a second. If you were to plan ahead, you could think "Hmm, if I instant float into a d-air, I could catch him off guard".

But don't plan more than 1, maybe 2 moves ahead, or disaster awaits =p

  • I looked into my video and saw what happened at 5:12, and after I had attacked Ness, I did the dodge roll a whole bunch. I know what my thought process there was: Ness had just recovered, so I defaulted to evading him for a while figuring out what I have to do next. As I haven't memorized Peach's aerial moves (I've only memorized those of Ness, Lucas, and G&W), it takes time for me.

  • Ahh, understandable. I forget not everyone knows the princess as well as I do.

When I stray from Peach, I tend to attack like i would if i was playing her, and it usually works out pretty well, unless I'm playing Snake or Cap'n Falcon.

Ness and Lucas huh? Fans of the Earthbound/Mother series of games or just find them interesting characters?

Oh, also: Grabs, Dashing and grabbing is really useful, my only real tip there is pressing grab a bit before you think you need to.

  • It's because Ness was a really strange character in the original Smash Bros. games, so I played as him a lot. I used what I knew about using Ness for SSB and applied it to the two sequels. Lucas plays much like Ness, so I got the hang of him very quickly.

Do you know how I deal with someone standing still? Oddly, I have the most trouble against people who just stand there and attack whomever comes by. I can't grab or do anything much to them, as they can time their range better than I can.

  • If you have any projectiles then you could do some short hops as you move in and use your projectiles before you land. This forces them to shield or to dodge just as you're closing in. Sets them up nice if you have a quick high-priority move to hit him with. If you don't have projectiles then I guess you could always do a running shield grab.

  • Yeah, all those dominating Ikes online simply stay still. They can control their range very easily because they don't have to think about movement--just position. Figures that projectiles would be the best way to go, but what's a running shield grab? Doesn't shielding stop you in your spot?

  • Ike is much more of a problem online than he is offline to be sure, the input lag ends up helping you run into his attacks.

Projectiles are of course the best way to go, Peach and Ness both have wonderful projectiles for this. PK Fire locks the Ike in it, allowing you to close, and if you toss turnips in the air, you can move as soon as the turnip has left your hands. But any projectile can work well (Marth and Ike are both weak to projectiles)

    -Continued-

  • If you don't have projectiles available to you, Your job becomes considerably harder.

If they are content to charge F/U smashes or Eruption, wait until the move finishes, then run in and grab or dash attack.

You have to be fast however, because if a stationary Ike whiffs, they almost always follow it up with a jab, and Ike has a very good jab. You should, however, have enough time to close and attack before the jab.

If they spam F-tilt, short hop a d-air on them.

  • Yeah, that's what I try to do. I always mistime where I should stand and get hit by the very edge of Ike's range. (This seems to go for every character. If I can't seem to touch someone, it's because I'm always getting hit by the tip of that character's range before I can attack.)

The charging smashes and Eruption are harder to figure out, as I cant predict how long they're going to charge. They might attack again before I can react to it.

  • I always take a step back from where I feel safe on Ike's, and even then I still get hit occasionally.

You want to run in on the smash/eruption chargers right after their move finishes. So you want for the honk of Ike's F/U smash, and then charge in. Offline you want to wait about a half second before charging. Accursed input lag.

For someone who spams f-tilts on a character like Link though, the timing gets real hard, I just jump and d/f air them.

  • Hopefully, I don't get attacked by someone else waiting for Ike to finish.

What inevitably happens though, whenever I try to do this, is that by the time I realize it's safe, and I move my character towards Ike, he's somehow able to attack again, and I get hit.

  • hey yeah sorry this may sound extremly retarded but what time zone is texas in? if you know

  • Texas is in the Mountain Time Zone, I believe, which is 1 hour ahead of the Pacific Time Zone.

  • thanky you very much and your videos are awsome

  • That's the jab of Ike's i was telling you about, nasty move that is, quick and strong. you can attack probably faster than you are thinking though.

Once his sword has hit the ground and stops glowing, it can no longer hit you, ideally, you want to be starting your movement towards him a split second before.

Since his U-smash hits front to back, if your facing his front, its even easier, just wait till his sword is overhead and then close.

Or simply toss an item at him, Ike's rarely shield.

  • uhh overhazard i need help on my diamond im trying to connect on wifi but dont know what i need, wires? please help

  • Not sure why you asked this here, but for the DS to go online, you need wireless internet where you're playing. If you don't have wireless internet at home, you can try a public library or a school.

  • Since theres a sliding effect whenever you stop running, if you shield + hit A to grab quickly it takes an extra step or 2. It's useful. try it

  • Is that so? I always make sure I come to a complete stop before I can plan what I need to do next.

  • using that sliding standing grab works better for some characters, worse for others.

Dedede: both his standing and dashing grab are great

Pit: Dashing grab is a bit lacking and pretty laggy

Peach: Standing grab is pretty awful, Dash grab is a lot better.

I would also recommend mixing your dash attacks/grabs up about 50/50

  • I wasn't even aware of a dashing grab until this discussion, actually. It sounds pretty useful, thogh it also sounds like its range is as short as hell. Range is a huge problem for me when I'm playing as someone with small range, like Jigglypuff or Kirby.

This explains why people can grab me so easily. I never knew of their existence, and I always thought they somehow know how to come to a complete stop and grab me instantaneously.

I should anticipate that jab of Ike's. I should wait a moment.

  • Yeah, Ike's jab is overall his best move, if nothing else for its speed. It comes out so fast.

Dash grabs are super useful, just be careful with some people. Like Ness, for while he has strong throws, his dash grab, and standing grab both have lousy range. Dedede, however, has huge standing and dashing grab range.

With someone with not a lot of range, a lot of your offense is going to come from short hop aerials or trying to fake your foe to attack, leaving them vulnerable.

  • Based on my experiences in Melee, I'm at my best faking out the opponent, learning their patterns and responding to them via anticipation, which is much harder to do with button lag present.

Now that I know about these dashing grabs, I should try some myself. I could probably count the number of times I grabbed someone in Melee who wasn't Stone Kirby on one hand.

  • It was a lot harder in Melee, that was for sure, and I used someone with one of the better grab ranges (Marth).

But somewhere along the way I decided to stop playing the high tiers and just try to have fun and be good with a much lower tier character (Princess in her daisy outfit).

Grabbing was much harder in melee to be sure, I think its because brawl moves at a slower pace that its easier to get grabs off. Or I could be completely wrong, who knows.

  • So THAT'S why you feel so strongly towards this video. I know this is the first video I've uploaded where I used Peach in her Daisy colors.

And what I mean up there are ATTEMPTED grabs, not successful ones. I almost never tried to grab anyone, and the habit continued with Brawl: The thought of grabbing opponents rarely ever occurs to me.

  • The weaker the character, the more they suffer from button lag effects, that's why Ike seams so strong.

Ganon can be a beast online as well, any really heavy hitter can. Even in the best of games, your going to run into a .4 second input lag. And while that might not seam like much, it is.

Conversely: Characters who rely on speed suffer. Peach and Pit to name a few. Sonic is kinda in this category too, but his attacks all cover large distances, helping him a lot.

  • That must explain why I do a lot worse with Ice Climbers online than in Melee--they're light, and their hammers seem to have gotten shorter. That the Ice Climbers get together so well is a liability to me, since in Melee, I relied on the opponent not knowing which Ice Climber I was.

I suppose Captain Falcon must suffer from the lag too, as he seems to be about getting to where he wants to go. The lag causes me to often overshoot my target, my biggest problem by far (for every character).

  • Indeed, it -crippled- falcon, but brawls physics just made it even worse, he went from high tier, to being the worst character in the game.

Everyone high/top tier but Marth got hit pretty bad Melee to Brawl.

Overshooting was a problem I had when I first started playing too. Heck, I still do it all the time. I generally try to aim at where my foe is going to be instead of where they are. I still whiff, but at least I sometimes get hits off.

  • That was intentional, to try to balance the game even further. It wasn't completely successful, and I think perfect balance is impossible, but I like how Brawl is a lot more balanced than Melee. There are no incompetent "joke" characters anymore.

I should probably aim slightly in front, at least pretend to. Something I notice that greatly reduces my potency is that I run right past someone and THEN make a move.

  • Oh I fully agree, they just hurt some characters more than others. Samus for instance, she is unfortunately quite bad now.

Meta knight however... He single handedly almost breaks the balance of the game, at least, in the tourney scene. He is just good, nearly too good in fact. His only real weakness is that he is kinda light, but other than that, he has no real weakness. It's crazy.

Definitely try to "lead" your target a bit, just hit the button a half second before you think you should

  • It looks like it, considering Metaknight's insane ability to trap people. One thing I noticed playing as him is that he isn't capable of much knockback, but more about racking up damage slowly but steadily. I guess this makes him even more powerful in Team Battles.

I should definitely try to anticipate instead of react...though I'm still bad at anticipation.

  • Metaknight really is broken (Too good) in the tourney scene. A -lot- of people main him, All of his match ups are either neutral or to his advantage, and he is great at racking damage. he also has some really good kill moves: D-smash, N-air, and Shuttle loop (Up-B). They all can kill just about anyone over 100%.

-Plus- he has crazy high priority, disjointed hit boxes, and his Mach tornado.

Anticipation does indeed help a lot, It comes from experience more than anything. So keep playing =p

  • Heh, it reminds me of the Metaknight player who just chose to repeatedly walk to the left and right off the course, if only to screw with the people seeing these matches on Spectator Mode.

Has Metaknight displaced Snake at the top of the tournament scene?

  • Yeah, Metaknight is the king of the tourney scene by a long shot anymore, its honestly not even close. There have been rumors going around that they are seriously thinking of banning him for tourney level play because he simply has no real weakness outside his light weight.

Snake is still very high up there, so is ROB and G&W. Below them its; Dedede, Marth, and Falco.

After them however; the field really starts to even out. Unless your Captain Falcon. Poor guy, Falcon was a favorite of mine.

  • ...And people diss me a lot for using King Dedede.

Even I noticed Captain Falcon was toned down, and he was my least-used character in Melee. The randomizer just wasn't kind to him...But there's nothing in Brawl that would be like Mewtwo in Melee or Jigglypuff in the original.

(At least...Captain Falcon wasn't THAT bad, was he? I can at least win matches with any character in this game. I could never get anything done with Mewtwo.)

  • I love the king, tossing those waddle dees, doos, and Gordos. I've seen him throw -cake-, he wins for that if nothing else =p

Mewtwo was actually decent, not great, but not awful either. He had some of the best tricks in Melee. Check 'tube for a player named "Taj" he was an -amazing- Mewtwo user

The Captain was very high tier in melee, not top, but very close. He is now the worst character in the game (Although some say Yoshi is. I disagree.)

Falcon is still top tier in coolness however =p

  • I still see a lot of the Captain online, so he's still got his odd charisma. I love his stage, that's for sure.

I can play as Yoshi pretty well. Yoshi was the character I used to obtain Trophy Stands against bosses on Intense when I first got them, and as a result, I learned how to use Yoshi effectively. (Oh yeah, he'd be another character I've memorized the aerial attacks for.) Lag would sometimes cause me to Egg Roll right off the stage though.

  • Show me your moves! Falcon punch! The Captain of Charisma, to be sure.

Yoshi is honestly one of the characters who I just falter against. I can not fight a good Yoshi player for the life of me. I could be using Meta and still have huge problems with the green one.

I personally think Yoshi is great in the right hands.

Yoshi, Falco, Link, and Lucario. I just can not seam to do more than simply passable against those 4. I honestly have less trouble with Metaknight than I do those characters.

  • I think I need to hit the Intense bosses once more as Yoshi though, as I feel my Yoshi is slipping past a great deal of characters. Shortly after my Boss Trophy run, I could get +4 or +5 consistently with Yoshi, but not anymore, by a long shot. The randomizer not picking Yoshi in months is probably a factor.

I think I can stand to improve a lot by training against the Intense bosses, seeing how much they improved my game as Yoshi. It won't help my grabbing though.

  • Got fed up with bosses after trying to clear the "Intense boss battles" challenge. I managed to get all the way to Taboo once with Lucas at 0%. I then got tagged by Taboo's throw and was OHKO. I was furious and haven't touched that mode since.

+4/+5? Wish I could reliably get scores like that with Peach. I end up with +2/-1 most fights just because of how much trouble killing with Peach is. Damage wise however? 300ish given/100ish taken on average

Porky is my favorite boss though. Earthbound.

  • To combine two of those statements together, Porky is also the only boss other than Tabuu to have an instant-kill move. I've always considered Porky the second-hardest boss next to Tabuu. He was REAL hard to get a Trophy for, since he appears in the middle of a very long stage.

I've never tried Boss Battles greater than Hard difficulty. I went by relatively painlessly (but on the edge of my seat) with Sonic on the Hard difficulty, so I'm probably capable of Very Hard. But not Intense.

  • Porky is definitely one of the harder bosses. Fitting considering all the history behind him. Ironically, while trophy hunting in the SSE, I had to fight Porky. Now, at the time I wasn't trying or even looking for boss trophies. But low and behold as I'm about to kill him, a stand drops. I fling it, but -right- before it leaves my hands he blasts me, so the Porky trophy sat there while the screen faded.

Intense on Boss Battles with no continues was just mean of Sakurai. Can't Hammer it either.

  • Seriously? That's really messed up if you can't use the hammer on it. I vowed never to use any hammers, but I thought you could hammer away any challenge you feel you can't do.

He says there are no continues because he put it in the Multi-Man Brawl mode. I'm not sur eif that was an intentional trait of Boss Battles.

By the way, what you saw happening with Porky I saw happening with Rayquaza a few times. I went after Rayquaza first. The stage opens with him, so I lost him a lot from Game Overs.

  • Yup, you can't use the hammers on anything Intense or anything boss battle related.

Its the only challenged I wanted to use a hammer on, and the only one you can't. I heard that in the EU version, however, that any challenge is hammerable.

Probably an intentional trait. You can continue spam through intense classic and all-star, but not boss battles.

Rayquaza, Ugh, the second hardest boss for me. My hardest boss fight was Gallom (I think that's the spelling). Impossible on intense.

  • I heard that in the EU version, however, that any challenge is hammerable.

true. I used hammers on 'complete boss batles on intense', 'complete all-star on intense' and 'complete boss battles with all characters

  • Ha, lucky, wish us yanks got a break with the challenges, its the only thing keeping me from finishing my trophy collection.

  • Galleom is the one boss who takes up an entire stage, so I sometimes beat him up on Intense over and over (mostly as Yoshi) in order to get more Coins for the Coin Launcher thing. I Game Overed a bunch at first, but later on, I could figure him out so well that he's the only boss on Intense I have ever fought without losing a life. Then, I went back to dying against him a bunch.

  • He is the one boss I can not seam to beat, I have an easier time with Porky than I do Galleom. I have no idea why either. People usually list Duon or Porky as their hardest boss, but those two are among the easiest ones for myself.

I'm set as far as coins go. I must have gotten lucky with the coin launcher but it only took about 25,000 coins for me to get every random trophy and sticker, only trophies I have left are a few Challenge trophies, and SSE enemy trophies.

  • What Trophy comes out of Boss Battles on Intense? Is it Winged Tabuu?

Tabuu is certainly the most difficult boss for me, but asides him, I'd say it's Porky. Duon, I'd figure, is about as difficult as Galleom would be for me given equal experience with both. (But I don't.)

  • Ironically enough, I believe its Galleom's tank form, I can't remember what challenge nets you Winged Tabuu.

Aside from that whip like grab, most of Tabuu's attacks are telegraphed pretty far in advance. Most of my deaths on Tabuu, aside from the whip grap, come from me reacting too fast and getting blasted during a dodge recovery or jumping to early.

If your playing as Lucas or Ness, Duon is basically an extra heart container. PK magnet is a big help on some bosses.

  • Yeah the trophy is his tank form. You get Winged Tabuu after beating boss battles with all characters if I'm not mistaken. A great way to deal with some bosses is using Charizard's Rock Smash. Since bosses don't flinch they get the full damage from the fragments. I saw a video that shows it around here.

  • Tried that. Although he can take bosses down fairly quickly, he is also a large and slow target. 2-3 good shots on you, and your done in intense.

Lucas is who I used, his d-air does great damage too, and he is a lot more agile than Charizard to boot. PK Magnet helps too as you can use a few bosses to recover your health, and you can use PK Freeze or Thunder for some ranged damage, as long as your safe.

  • That's true. Charizard was hard for me to use. I almost beat it as Lucas though. It takes luck too like hoping to fight tougher bosses early on rather than later.

  • I would still like to brawl with you. My PBR disk died. It won't load battles.

  • I'm ok with Diddy Kong. I choose him a lot mainly because I love the sounds he makes. Great job on completing your CD collection. The CD was right by you too! It always is too far away for me and I can never get it.

  • Normally, what happens is that someone else gets it (which is normal, considering there are often three or four people playing) or that someone comes up and keeps me from getting it.

I don't know if they do that on purpose or not, but it often feels like they're trying to keep me from getting a CD.

  • Sorry to hear that, Even in random matches, since I have both all the stickers and all the songs, if i see a CD drop, I will stop attacking in hopes that the person who needs the CD can grab it.

  • ur friends dont go on? thats interesting. i experienced that at the beginning of brawl cuz my friends that i know n go to school with never went on, but then i joined a brawl clan n met n added tons of new friends n they are ALWAYS on but they neva let me join most the time cuz they hate gettin pwned :P. i would like to add u seein as how im on all the time

  • My birthday is 17th of august :D

  • I really enjoyed the matches. As someone who plays peach more or less exclusively, I can give you a few helpful tips with her.

If you tap down while holding jump, you can start your floating whenever you like. Float at about head level of your foe and you can use her incredibly useful down air attack. It works amazingly well.

Her tilts are really good as well, her forward and up tilt are both incredibly good moves.

Peach's crown smack is also her best K.O. move outside of her up smash.

  • As in I have Peach jump into the air, and I hold down the jump button and lightly tilt the control stick down?

I don't use tilts very often, especially up tilts, since I usually end up jumping instead. The only tilt attack I've gotten myself used to is Mr. Game & Watch's down tilt (Manhole), as it's got incredible knockback. It's something I should get used to while playing this game as well.

  • You can slam down on the stick too, that works best I find. I have tap jump set to off and use X to jump. So I simply jump with X, hold the button, and tap down when I want to float. You can float right off the ground too, but its a bit riskier =p

It's hard to up tilt with tap jump on. One of the reasons I turned it off. On most characters you can get by without up tilts, instead relying on up smashes.

Peach's forward tilt is a lot like snakes, its range is deceptive and has great power

  • Oh yeah, I forgot I could turn the tilt jump off. that'd be very handy, as I only use the jump button. Does this work with both of Peach's jumps or only her first?

  • works with both of her jumps. Her shorter second jump is great for spacing your float just right.

Floating at head height and using Peach's down air is super effective (haha). It does good damage and is hard for your foe to punish, as you float over most front smashes, and can just wait for up smashes to finish.

And if you can stand having tap jump off, I would recommend having it off, it makes up tilts much easier to preform. It also helps keep you from waiting jumps when trying to up air.

  • Also don't be afraid to throw those veggies around =D. They are great projectiles, and you got to love the stitch faces, ( 36% damage and big knockback) bob-ombs, and beam-swords. 1/56 chance of pulling each per veggie pull

  • Yep, I didn't use the turnips until late into the match because I forgot they were there. I often spend the first half of the match trying to recall a character's special moves. I should use the Practice Stage for something like that, but I just waste it hopping back and forth over the Sandbag.

  • Sandbag is weird. I find myself doing better in a match if I just play with sandbag or don't even move before the match. When I beat on the sandbag, I get use to the lack of input lag, so when the actual match hits, and the input lag returns, it takes me a bit to get use to it again.

  • Nevertheless, it'll probably help me by allowing me to remember what the character's special moves are. That's why I almost never deflect or absorb projectiles--it takes me upwards of 10 seconds to remember if I'm using a character capable of that.

  • A good idea to be sure since you main random (I could never do that, There are a few characters I just can't stand). Just don't try to juggle or combo the sandbag =p that's where I get in trouble

  • (It takes me even longer if the attack to deal with projectiles is not the down special, like with Mario or Zelda.)

I realized very early on that I can't beat up on Sandbag the same way I could with online opponents due to the lag.

Of course, would I be correct in assuming that the more often people reflect or absorb projectiles with that character, the more they've focused on that one character? I rarely see moves like the PSI Magnet or the Cape even from specialists for those characters.

  • Great games,

I didn't tryed online playing yet, but soon i will ;), The games i gonna play are: SSBB, PBR, Mario kart Wii

  • Well, I'll be on SSBB alot often so you can count me in if ya want to go at it sometime.

  • Yeah I know it wasn't ment to lift people, just to capture footage.

  • Yeah I read about that, looks just like it and works the same way. Its pretty cool, though you won't see it lift any one 20 ft high anytime soon.

  • Not until they make gasoline-powered ones. (The Cipher wasn't supposed to lift people to begin with.)

  • Yeah I have done that many times, the land mines are worth setting down than the C4, since they go off as people get near it. His grab is funny to use when you set the character down.

  • Yeah, I rarely use the C4. I just use the down smash. I've never been able to grab anyone as Snake though.

By the way, did you know the US Army is working on a real-life Cipher? It's not called that, but it's essentially a disc-shaped hovering thing with a camera attached to it.

  • Another Snake tip are his tilts. His up tilt and his side tilts have some particularly odd hitboxes, and wonderful knockback.

I noticed they hit the sand bag without his body even needing to make contact with the thing.

  • Yeah i noticed on the tilts, but the sandbag is new to me.

  • Hitboxes...That's something I never paid much attention to. I don't visualize the possible reach of attacks, as there are simply too many for me to keep track of. I just visualize what the attack looks like, and I understand it enough from there.

  • Thats why it good to know the hit boxes, most people don't notice it and you can get the hit in while they think its safe

  • I understand what most attacks look like, and as a visual thinker, that's good enough for me. Nearly all attacks in the game are straightforward enough: Its range is the same as what the attack's appearance suggests.

Didn't know about Snake being able to hit beyond the reach of his body though. I know Lucario can attack well beyond what's visible.

Not that I could take advantage of that though. I'm not capable of that level of precision in Smash Bros.

  • I mostly use Mario and Mr.Game and Watch. I am trying to get use to Snake but his smash attacks are slow.

  • You can't play Snake like anybody else. His up-smash and down-smash can hit people in ways no one else's smash attacks can, and they're very powerful too...but he can't smash attack like the other characters do.

(A tip: Try putting Snake's land mines, his down smash, by the edges. Anyone who runs over to edge guard will get a face full of bombs.)

  • Luca's smash attacks are rather strong, I like his up smash since it has a nice reach.

  • Yeah and on some stages it pesters you, like on the pictochat stage. Last quite a while his final smash too.

  • I noticed pressing A did something during His final smash but I never really spent much time pressing it as i was just swiming around hitting them with his tentacles.

  • The Octopus is great for pestering people around, definitely. It works better on some stages than others, however.

  • Man I love how much better Mr. Game and watch is now. His down A attack from mid air is alot better now! His final smash does suck though...

  • Only if you don't know what to do with him. Pressing A rapidly makes him stronger.

  • Yeah somewhere around that time here too. its 12:45 AM here. Not a big difference

  • Heh, I'm online right now actualy. My friend code for brawl is 3179-8276-0729. Name is P73, standing for P1R473 7H3 3ND.

  • Ahaha. XD Even the Ultimate Chimera is no match for gravity! He's done that on my game once. I love how Soren immediately responded with an appropriate "o_o".

Oh, and congrats on collecting all of the random CD drop songs. I managed to collect every song (including the songs on the Challenges page) about a month after I got the game.

  • I haven't gotten that yet...I still need to leave the Wii on overnight, as I know no one else in real life who plays the Wii.

Yesterday's Smash Service picture was of the Ultimate Chimera falling, by the way. It makes it even better.

  • The Super Mario 64 Main Theme was the last song I needed. It took a while to get.

    Really? I wouldn't know, because I can't access Wi-Fi. *points to the router I don't have*

  • I would've thought that you did have wireless internet. Then again, the worse a person's English, oddly enough, the more likely they have high-speed internet.

I still don't have the Mario 64 theme. It's the only song I don't yet have, as I very rarely play multiplayer locally.

  • I have Comcast High Speed Internet. My sister constantly uses chatspeak, but I type legibly in even the most casual conversations I have. To me, chatspeak denotes laziness, and is somewhat inconsiderate if the reader has trouble trying to decipher the message.

Well, good luck. I hope you unlock it soon.

  • Im glad Im not the only bowser user.

  • Certainly not. Bowser is awesome.

And you have to love all of these people's reactions (the ones who have it in their minds that Bowser sucks because he's big and slow,) after they get beaten by one.

  • ya people are always suriprized.

  • Bowser was near the bottom in Melee, and a lot of people are unaware of how most characters have been subtly tweaked to be more balanced. I seem to get this a lot with Mr. Game & Watch.

  • Also, you seem to be way better tham me at one-on-ones. Had you used PK Thunder properly, you would've won. I knew I was battling someone superior in the match between these two--Lucas is one of my best characters, if not my absolute best in this game, and I was still very even with you when you used Sheik.

However, you did remember to use the PSI magnet, which is something I can never remember to do...or if I do, it's like 10 seconds after it's happened.

  • My best character is Toon Link. But other than him I do well with Sonic, Ness (believe it or not..it sure didn't show in New Pork.), and either Snake or Bowser. I think.

You're better with Lucas than you are Ness now?

  • I find myself being more effective with Lucas's PK Thunder than I am with Ness, and he has stronger Smash attacks too. Ness is still one of my best characters, though I'm not sure whom I'm better as.

Ice Climbers plays way differently now, so I can't play as then very well. They were my best Melee character.

  • Too bad you can't split yourself in two and Brawl yourself.

  • Sheik is not a specialty character of yours, it seems, and you play as well with Sheik as I do with Lucas. You also absolutely creamed me with Bowser. I could barely dodge anything, and you pulled off a clean sweep.

  • I do love Sheik but yeah, not a specialty.

I was practicing with Bowser just to see what makes him tick and ended up getting pretty nice with him. But on the flip side, you weren't using a character you're as familiar with.

  • I'm naturally bad as Diddy Kong. Much of him seems to be about out-psyching the opponent, and that's something I can't do well outside of Pokémon. The randomizer picks Diddy from time to time, though you may be right in that it doesn't pick him nearly as often as it does for someone like King Dedede or Ness.

  • Speaking of which, you seem to be pretty good with Dedede, least of all the times I've seen you play him. It chose Dedede for you yesterday too, and my final stock was taken in a very odd fashion.. I'm pretty sure that hammer was already slammed into the floor, yet I ran into it and somehow went flying still.

Do you still have that match recorded..? I'd love to see that again, just for that last part..

  • I've already cut that match out, since I couldn't get it to fit within the time I get for each video.

I saw you run right into the hammer the moment it hit the floor. Usually, there's almost no knockback unless the character makes contact with the central axis of the cylinder part of the hammer. That's the attacks "sweet spot." Maybe you ran through the hammer and into that by mistake.

  • Aww. That was still pretty..uh.. Interesting. I only ran forward BECAUSE I figured it was safe, only to find myself flying off to my doom.

  • Yeah, I can understand tiny little details like that among the characters I play as a lot, but hitboxes are beyond me. Go figure.

  • I only know about the characters i mainly use though, everyone else i just know the basics. Like diddy kong, one of the few i can't use at all.

  • Eh, I only bother to really know the hitboxes of the characters I play with a lot. I'll spend some time in training mode seeing what words and what doesn't from what distances and angles and such. Most of 'em just work like you'd expect them to, but Snake's tilts are just a different story. He can his with his side tilt from about a (small) character length away. His knee just touches air, but the opponent still gets hurt.

  • I should keep that in mind when playing as Snake. I don't know if I could get the opportunity to do such a thing, however.

  • ...Or co-op with yourself so you can BEAT BOSS BATTLES ON INTENSE!!!

  • Well my friend fights like me so we had no problem taking out Petey, though we only got to him at the time.

  • Congratulations on finishing the cd collection! Oh and by the way, none of my friends are online when I play either. I live in Hawaii, and I usually play (offline lol) later at night, like 10. Which means NO ONE is online, lol.

  • That would be something like 1 AM in my time zone, it seems.

  • y dont u do like 2 days of one day rest then to days of a next one ?

  • A what? I don't follow...Do you mean that I don't play something every third day?

  • oops i wasnt clear (working 3days of 12 hour shifs stright does that to a guy)

i ment to say is y dont u play one game for to days and then switch soo ppl noe wat game is coming next

oo and i havnt seen much of snake in ur battles :O

  • Snake? Yes, I haven't had a lot of Snake. Thanks.

What I do is that I feel like playing a different game after I've played one of a certain kind for too long. I always mix them up because different people watch videos for different games, and I don't want them to feel left out.

  • add me to ur friends list i add you like last wek plsssss play brawl with me my brawl code is 2234_9229_7490 nick name keith add me plsssss

  • Um...if you want, add my friend code. I'm not that great compared to some of the people who play this game for keeps, but I can put up a pretty good fight.

  • i well fight u in brawl i not good ether

  • Needs less of me screwing up PK Thunder. I really ought to remember not to try PK thundering in a narrow spot like that.

  • I'd say yes to posting when you play, especially if you have a full friends list, unless your friends play regularly, (which only 2 seam to) it kinda makes all those others slots wasted.

  • I have been looking at Brawl videos to see if there any pointers I can get since my defense is flawed and I learned I do not shield properly or at all for that matter. Got to learn that.

  • Heh, reminds me of how I never shielded, rolled, or sidestepped at all during the first three years I played Melee--to dodge attacks, I always jumped out of the way. Right now, I'm seeing if I can figure out how to sidestep properly, and I'll work on grabs after that.

Grabbing people is so hard...I can never get within a close enough range without a grappler like Link or Samus. I always get attacked first. I dont see how other people can grab me so often.

  • I find the best way to grab people is to grab out of the shield by pressing A when shielding. Also, in response to your comment about what stages you haven't played on much, I'd enjoy a fight on Icicle Mountain.

  • You mean The Summit? Icicle Mountain isn't in this game.

The main time I grab people is Kirby in his Stone mode, though the main thing is that I've never trained myself to react by grabbing. It's usually just Smash attacks, regular A button attacks, and the occasional special attack.

I don't see people shielding for too long either, at least long enough for me to grab. People seem to shield for split seconds, which isn't enough time for me to react.

  • Yeah, shielding at first was tough to get used to and I did not grab very often at all in Melee but after a few months in Brawl, I grab people regularly to set for combos, Ness's nack grab can kill at moderate damage percentages. Little helpful hint there for those who didn't know.

  • Yeah, it says on the official site that the strongest throws come from characters with supernatural powers, like Ness.

Unless they're Stone Kirby, I can never get close enough to someone to grab them without getting attacked or grabbed myself. Do you know what I'm doing wrong there?

  • Ah, grabbing is one of the more harder techniques to get used to.I'm not 100% how I learned the timing for grabing, but one Idea was that insted of useing a running attack, use a running grab,it usually catches them off gaurd because they're expecting the attack and not the grab. But I learned to grab well through many Random Wi-fi battles with anyone.Well, not really "Battles" so much as Goofing off. But somehow it helped me learn grabbing nontheless.Just practice and you'll get the hang of it.

  • So...should I spend entire matches doing nothing but grabbing, and in some cases, evading? Sidestepping is something I seldom do for the same reason as grabbing--I always get attacked before I can start sidestepping.
