  • Thats so fucking amazing!

  • Ferret

  • Fun fact: When this was filmed, the explosion didn’t go off at the right time but was delayed by a second or two, so Heath Ledger’s reaction is completely real.

  • Oh shit, thy actually made an explosion that fucking huge irl!!!!?

  • Imagine if Heath tripped or something... they'd have to do the whole thing again XD

  • I think he's in the back of the moving bus at the lower corner after the building blows up. :)

  • im surprised Chicago let them do that

  • and the joker's bus leaves at 0:55

  • Holy shit, Batman! Just when you think, that everything is CGI today. Most badass explosion ever on film! Makes appreciate TDK even more. So everything in that scene was real? Must have been really dangerous to drive that bus in front of that explosion!

  • I could barely see Heath Ledger at :15 on the left side walking in front of the camera crew.

  • Apparently the delay in the rest of the explosion was completely unintentional, but Heath Ledger was able to make it look like it WAS intentional. Now THAT'S acting.

  • You can barley see the joker aka heath walking lol i miss him

  • LOL Heath's like,"F*ckin' RUN!"

  • wow just think how much money that must of cost!!

  • Maybe the most spectacular building implosion ever.

  • Was the delay of the explosion intended or was it a accident? I read somewhere that it just happened then the problem fixed itself.. Anyone else know or have read something like that?

  • @AT0061 I'm pretty sure the explosion was much more delayed than intended, but Heath stayed in character and it ended up being one of the best moments in the movie.

  • I wonder if he knew that Heath Ledger was on that bus?

  • I bet people who didn't know this was for a movie FREAKED OUT!

  • WOW they exploded the whole body of the building. FOR THE FIRST TIME OF MY LIFE!

  • he comes out at the left of the screne

  • Thats Heath at 0:14, left side of the screen, and a guy with a camera right infront of him moving backwards right ?

  • Correct!

  • yes sir, I was lookin for that too lol

  • yes

  • Yep

  • Watching it is kind of weird. because its almost like the News was warned about the explosion (story-wise)...and they happened to record the entire thing.

So we see it from Gotham's perspective on TV.

  • thats gotta cost a lot of bucks.

  • Just the pyrotechnics was expensive the building itself was abandoned for literally YEARS

  • oh cool

  • oh shit, batman was in there!!!

  • you can see heath walking way on the left

  • I wonder if when he pressed the detonator and it didn't fully go off, if they planned that or if they didn;t and heath just improvised..

  • It was funny when the joker pressed the detonator, and it wouldn't go off, so he starts fiddling with it then it finally explodes.

  • XD so that was a real building they blowed up becuz they didnt need it anymore

  • lol u can see the joker coming out of the hospital

  • You can see the joker (center Right) if you look hard enough.

  • he's on the far left.

look for an all black car at the left border of the frame. Thats the filming car with the crane and the Imax camera that showed the joker walking out of the building.

  • OMG! JUST IMAGINE if there they would have done a BloopeR THERE! xD NEXT HOSPITAL! :p

  • Boom :3

  • there's a guy on the roof!

  • wait so that was a real building they blowed up becuz they didnt need it anymore????

  • that's what i'm thinking :/ probably they're going to remake it but make it better.

  • at the end of the explosion u see the school bus he left in

  • One take heath took to get it right cos thats all they got. And he did it under a lot pressure. Everything in that explosion scene besides some minor particle effect was real. Impressive. Goes to show that CG can't always replace the real thing.

  • haha i remember seeing the smoke from my house.

  • !!!

  • well i do live in the suburbs around Gotham(Chicago) hehe. and i just happen to see the smoke.

  • that is awesome lol

  • you know what else is awesome? going to gotham(chicago) and seeing the bat mobile driving around.

  • u serious??? and also in the beginning of the movie, when the batmobile drives into the parking garage...did they act that out in that parking garage?

  • lemme tell you this. Everything you saw in that movie was chicago. except for the prison scenes, hong kong, and all the studio scenes were filmed in england.

  • you know alot about this movie :P

  • well when u see one of the greatest movies ever made being filmed in ur home town u get kinda obsessed. lol.

  • lol yeah...good point

  • ya lol

  • wow wasnt heath right there in the bus when the girst big explosion was on heath was on the left side to bad he died he was kool none knows real people other than what they read or hear.;

  • kool; huh

  • isnt that guy flying the helicopter risking his life..?

  • I think any pilot risks his/her life to a certain extent just by flying. There are two pilots in this video. The camera in which this video came from is on a Fox News helicopter and then there is a helicopter that is used by the film crew. The helicopter used by the film crew is pretty close to the action but he/she knows what they are doing. They are stunt pilots if you will. So they aren't risking their lives anymore than any other stuntman/stuntwoman. They are professionals.

  • If you mean by being near the explosion, god no. If you can see near the end when they zoom out that they were really REALLY far away so no.

  • talking about the helicopter in the smoke..

  • HOLY SHIT Aerial view! Love it!

And you can see the bus moving away at the last second there.

  • Did anyone find the actual character of the Joker kinda attractive, or is it just me?

  • it is NOT just you ;D

millions of people feel the same, you will find...

  • Ok haha xD

  • oh yeah heath was a great actor you should never call me gay or what ever i'm a girl and i have rights to like someone and tell it to the world

  • totally homo

  • yeah your gayy

  • i do but in heaths version he is very acttractive in many ways

  • i agree. he is very smexy

  • damn how many more good actors have to die this year first heath then bernie mac? what is goin on

  • nobody cares about Brach anymore

  • damnit you should have gotten a view of the bus on the left that suddenly comes out. it woulda been cool to see heath dressed as nurse joker :p

  • you do see heath

  • wtf dude listen to MisguidedPirate, hes the one that posted the video in the first place

  • did heath die from suicide or accident?

  • it was an accident. He was having trouble sleeping, missed his daughter and wanted to see her more, obviously got deep in the roll of the Joker- who can get under anyone's skin- and had prescription medicine for some of this.

Supposedly Mary-Kate Olsen provided him with other pills that were non-prescription and when he took them that day they mixed together and, I don't know if he had an allergic reaction to it, but he accidentally overdosed.

    So sad :(

  • PLaying the joker didnt get "under his skin" listne tho the interviews with him and the cast he said it was the most fun he has ever had playing a character....douche.

  • i agree with this person he was a great joker fell in love with the joker cause of heath

  • Gay?!

  • he was a routine heroin and cocaine user. read his biography on wikipedia or an actual book. his parents should reach out to the public and warn against drug use, INCLUDING pharmaceutical drugs

  • so u actually got to see it? thats so kool!

  • i wonder how they did that for the movie. they couldnt use a real hospital lol they probably just built something and then belew it up lol

  • It's an old candy factory.

  • normally they don't make that much fire or big fire balls, nice movie effects, the movie was great.

  • no it was an old candy factory not a parking garage.

  • damn i was trying to locate ledger but cant see him r.i.p Heath

  • i loved the scene where the joker blew up the hospital!! with that crazy little sound effcet rite befor he threw the detanater!!!! loved it loved it loved it!!!

  • yeah, especially when he wasa dressed as a nurse!! that was a plusplusplus, very SMEXY XDXD

  • ha i knew it, the first time i saw it in the trailer, i was like "dude why did the joker blow up a parking garage?" It's awesome that they actually did, though, props to Nolan for filming all the actual stuff, i.e. truck flip and explosions and not be lazy and use CGI like every other director.

  • Wait a min!?? a parking Garage?? WHAT!?!

and yeah i know it was a REAL Hospital but like some ppls say it was just a model

  • DAYUM!!that was AWESOME!and YES it is tre this waz a REAl Hospital that actually REALLY blew up! :)

  • heath plays a villain that you have to hate and R.I.P heath ledger R.I.P

  • Do u stupidos realley think a man can just walk out from an exploading building?

    BTW

    R.I.P Heath Ledger!

  • WTF, this is a real building~!

shit, it definately cost a lotttttttttttttttttt

  • When the Joker is walking out is the best.

  • so if they didn't use CGI the hospital scene when joker came out and the hospital start to explode was at the same time they explode the candy factory??, if it was like that then, there's not doubts about this is the best movie ever (well there were never doubts about that, at least not for me)

  • What you see is different. If you're talking about when the Joker comes out of Harvey Dent's room, then that's probably a built in set that they recreated to look like they're blowing up. But if you're talking about this particular scene when the Joker comes out of the whole hospital, then this scene uses a real building and real explosives.

  • yeah man i'm talking about when he is out of the hospital and the detonator doesn't work, some people say that he improvised that part, so what i'm saying is that when the candy factory explode he is actually walking behind the explosion

  • Can you see the Joker in there somewhere?

If yes, please tell me at what times?

  • You can see the Joker (barely) on the left of the building where the ambulance is parked from :10 - :18. You can see him walking toward the camera crew.

  • He's also in the school bus that pulls away from the explosion.

  • if you look close you can see heath walking and doing which i think is the most insane part of the movie, i got fricken chills all the way up my back when i seen him walking in the movie

  • CGI cheapens movies in a way. I'll take a real explosion over a computer generated one any day.

  • Holy crap, it wasn't CGI? That's so awesome!

  • most of the movie wasnt cgi.

  • 'cept for maybe the bad side of Two Face

  • It's makeup, it even rubs off a bit when he drinks water from a glass at one point (or so I've heard).

  • I saw an interview with Aaron Eckhart and he said only a little of the bad side of his face was CGI, the rest was make up. He even said that his mom couldn't come and see him on the set of the movie because she wouldn't be able to handle seeing him like that and that she probably wouldn't even be able to see the movie.

  • I know!

I was thinking the same thing!

  • you are the "tool" can't you see this was filmed only once and there are real people going out of the building??? also it is an implotion no explotion... you will feel stupid in the future when "behind the scenes" shows this part WHERE HEAT LEDGER goes far of the hospital and then goes inside of the bus ... green screen... how stupid would be that! Cris Nolan doesn't work that way that is one of the things that make him such an artist!!! go and see harry potter asshole

  • Lol, I agree with you man, but work on ur spelling :P

He doesn't need to go see Harry Potter... just watch The Dark Knight, and then watch something like Terminator 3... it's obvious...

  • haha i loved this movieee!

ha, i thought the joker in his nurse costume was funny when he was walking out.

    haha :))

and when the button wasnt working.

the cast and crew did an amazing job

  • I AGREE!! I thought everyone did awesome...but I couldn't take my eyes off the Joker whenever he was on the screen!! <3

  • you obviously dont understand how serious Heath Ledger was about his part as the Joker. This entire movie was real there was almost no CGI, Christopher Nolan did an amazing job.

  • no that was in the script tvboy223. they made it funny there on purpose

  • if u see that bus that is moving, that bus is carrying the joker away from the hospital

  • Heath Ledger was an amazing actor. There was actually a problem with the explosives, the timing was off, so in the movie he improvised because the whole building didnt go down, when he looked back and saw it didnt go down he started messing with the detonator until it did, it fitted so perfectly that it didnt work properly.

  • do u know that that was an accident for sure? if it was then he did an AMAZING job. he stayed completely in character it was soooo funny, the whole theater was laughing

  • it was on the script, they had the exactly timing on explotions and there was no green screen it was all real and one take shot Heat is goig outside the hospital at 0:11 he goes near the ambulance (two white pixels moving)

  • I have the script. It says:

"The Joker STROLLS down the steps- WINDOWS BLOW OUT IN SERIES- People DIVE for cover- Engle piles into a school bus-

The Joker walks across the parking lot - THE BUILDING COLLAPSES BEHIND HIM."

So, as it would seem, Heath DID walk out of the "hospital" as it blew up and improvised the fooling with the detonator trick.

  • well i guess nolan will say some day... it could be or not, maybe they talked about it and decide to do this way (no need to be on the script to do it)

  • If you don't mind, can you tell me where you heard that?

  • when they interviewed micheal cain on the late show he said most of the movie wasnt cgi.like the truck flip thats all real.

  • you can actually see heath ledger 0:11 going out of the building at the top left an ambulance nearest to the left of the screenside, he was wearing a nurse clothing so is a white silouete or pixel... moving there ,he stayed like ten seconds doing his performance because this was a real one shot take of the action. Ledger was real closer to the building, after the first explotions he took the bus you can see later crossing the parking zone.

  • Four of them buses belongs to the company I work for, and joe, jeremy, paul, and carl said that it was hot those four days when they drove out there. Brad our mechanic had a heck of a time getting the vynl off that they usede to cover up the company name and logos.

    they had fun though

  • wow! great filming too

  • Was this building scheduled to be demolished? If so, it went with a bang! Hwah!

  • lmao xD

  • Well, the guy on top of the building was a stunt person probably. so...he'll be okay.

  • in the trailer it looks so epic o.o. Here it looks like a demo lol

  • YEEEEEY!!!!!!!

  • There was a person standing on the top!!!

  • dont lie lol

  • It looked like it. lol

  • I saw him get carried off in a helicopter right before

  • No sound? still cool!

  • pretty sure those are all the crew cars.. they know what they're doing

  • Idiots, at least clear all cars etc within the direct blast area!!

  • all that smoke is killing the enviroment!!!!!!!!!!!!!! cant u just use computer animation?

  • wake up chap wake up

  • hahahahahahahaha

  • The environment is fine. Stop freaking out, dude. Climate changes take place quite naturally once every so often in Earth's long cycle--not as a result of human activity--but because of normal changes resulting from activity on the surface of the sun. Just chill, man, everything's gonna be fine.

  • Right on!

  • greenhouse gasses are causing the suns heat to stay neer earths atmosphere too long and his melting antartica or somtin and is causing major weather conditions. if we keep this up it wont be fine...

  • "greenhouse gasses are causing the suns heat to stay neer earths atmosphere too long"

No. In fact whats happening is that The ozone layer is being eroded due to the carbon dioxide and emmisions that are being released into the air, the ozone layer stops the u.v (ultravoilet) rays from directly coming into contact with us, these ultravoilet rays can cause skin cancer, and doesnt do the natural environment much good.

    (cont)

  • ...then after my kids, my grand-kinds and my grand-kids kids, then the popel are in trouble and thats not helping. and u said " these ultravoilet rays can cause skin cancer, and doesnt do the natural environment much good" so it is harming the enivroment. and this is a crisis as big as small as it may be

  • yes it does matter what happens in the future and again what did i say? "this is a crisis as big as small as it may be"

  • ya but in order to get to all that advances and technology...we need to actually think about how to make them we cant just sit here and say it'll happen and itll happen earlier if theres less polution so we should help by not polluting

  • holy crap

  • wow smoke so awsome!!! just ta let you know dats sarcasm

  • PLEASE pay attention in school. There is a reason why your second-grade English teacher assigns homework and expects you to complete it and turn it in.

  • what if they got the take wrong?ha

  • wow!! only in hollywood

  • only jokin

  • it was a scene for batman 2 not a terrorist attack

  • This guy's my room mate.
