I met Robin once too in the parking lot after a show around 97'. He hung out for a bit and bullshited with everybody. Real down to earth nice guy actually. The other guys were nowhere to be seen.
1:39 never noticed that change before.these guys could really keep it rolling. They had there own way and it was some of the very best. hats off to these guys.
Let's be honest guys; anyone who knows ANYTHING about music, has absolutely no respect or regard for the RnR HOF anyway. It's a joke, always has been. If it burned to the ground, who would care? There's far too many crap bands and musicians that have been inducted to it, so really...it deserves no mention. It has NO credibilty.
They played at our county fair a couple of years ago. Rick explained something about the key in which a particular song was played ( for some inexplicable reason), then went to the side of the stage and said to a roadie, These people have no fucking idea what I just said." I was 15 feet away and heard it myself. I USED to be a fan.
@zzzepptri I've met Bun E. and Robin. Robin I've actually met twice and he was great each time Rick has a rep as being areal jerk when fans meet him. I've met their road amgr a few yrs ago when I was a rock jock and was suppose to interview the band. She couldn't have been a bigger bitch. I wasn't rude, pushy, nothing. As my boss at the time said later "no wonder they're playing county fairs and clubs when they should be selling out arenas."
I believe the suit was peach. I saw them at one of their first job in a club in Burbank called Haywire's (later called Harlow's) and that was pre-suit. Great then, great now.
I got to see them 3 times. They are one of the best. The sounded great and just kicked ass from beginning to end. They are due a spot at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
@mike2571 do u remember how u felt at this show? , doesnt it suck to be here now on fuckin youtube lookin at it? . try to get it back!!! try try!! ahhh fuck it glug glug glug
Like I posted on another thread, the R & R Hall of SHIT is garbage. It shouldn't even be mentioned by real music fans. Maybe if it imploded, would it even deserve a mention, but until that happens....fuck it. This band is legend. And their first two albums are two of the better albums of the whole 1970s. And that says A LOT.
Like the Sex Pistols dressed in Bowie suits. True Rock and Roll. Saw them in London a few years ago. Robin Zander turned up on a London bus at the venue and they played one of the best shows I've EVER seen. Fuck the Hall of Fame. Cheap Trick are in a league of their own.
Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame needs to seriously begin redeeming itself with some legitimate inductees, instead of trying to get Chic in every year.
Here's a great way to start. All original members. Ten years eligible for induction. Still making quality albums, still touring, still kicking serious ass.
Funyy how they are not in the Hall of Fame yet they use Rick's guitars in the displays at the Cleveland Hall of Fame..I can't believe they arent in yet..Amazing writing by Rick, Robin has the best vox in rock ..Tom's 12 string bass invention alone is worth induction....and Bun E is always awesome...
I went to this show and one of the best pats was the rendition of Need Yor Love. The guitar "wars" had a guest appearance of Joe Perry from Aerosmith battling Tom! It was awsome and I am surprised it has been left out.
In early 1977 Cheap Trick were relative unknowns in the music world. When I first saw them in '77' I only went after being begged to go by a friend who had a extra ticket. I had never heard of them. The concert was in Detroit. They were the opening band and MANY of the people who were there had never heard of them. When they came out there was clearly a "Susan Boyle" moment with people making fun of them before they ever played a note. No one ever made fun of them again. EVER.........
another fave from one of my all time fave bands. great opening song and a great classic rocknroll song. i cover this song when i practice all the time. the first time i saw this band this is what they opened the show with. i never forgot them, as they were one of the best opening bands i'd ever seen back in '78.
May 9, 2009. Happy Birthday, Tom. I saw you in person in July 1988 when you all opened for Robert Plant at the Hampton Coliseum. Remember? You were awesome. Keep rockin' and show these newbies how it's done.
WOW!!! What a find this stuff is!!! If I remember correctly this was at PPAC... Providence Performance Arts Center. My friend went to the show, got pictures of the band outside as they were coming into the venue They've been lost for years but I remember them being really close up shots. One of the local radio stations also broadcast this gig live on the air. Not sure if it was WHJY or JB 105 but I had the original recording from the actual show. Thaniks for this one!!! AWESOME find!!!!!
First saw Cheap Trick in 77. They were the opening band on a bill featuring several other groups, one of which was Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers. After Cheap Trick played their opening set we were so blown away that we decided right then and there to just go home and skip seeing the rest of the bands. We knew that whatever we saw after that would never compare to the show that Cheap Trick put on.
Unlike most rock singers........ I swear Robins voice has gotten better through the years. It's great in these performances but i think its only become stronger thru the decades
Hey,, it's great to see these guys still rock'n, I saw them in 76 , playing at Headliners down on State St in Madison. Saw a lot great beginnings there,, Pat Benatar, J Cougar, and others
This is too godamn cool!! I have had a live radio show 3 LP set of this show for many years, but I never knew it was filmed!! This needs to be released now...or sooner! 100% total rock!
Well said! I studied the Budokan DVD about 5 times. Robin was near perfect in all aspects. The Rhode Island Show looks like the band gave an A+++ performance. I love these great Americans artists.
These guys really kicked A back in there day. Glad they are still touring now so us baby boomers can share the great sounds and energy. Rock on Rockford,Illinois Champions!
I don't want to say this is Tom at his best, but it's certainly him at his most aggressive and creative, and I wish he'd play like this more.

I'm loving Robin's pink suit! This band is so amazing. Their 70s music especially is so raw and so good. They all are the most under-rated musicians.
