  • I don't want to say this is Tom at his best, but it's certainly him at his most aggressive and creative, and I wish he'd play like this more.

  • well Velvet revolver isnt bad at it?

  • ever notice no one ever covers cheap trick...impossible

  • this kicks some ass!

  • omg I forgot this one AWESOMEEEEEEEEE!!!!

  • I met Robin once too in the parking lot after a show around 97'. He hung out for a bit and bullshited with everybody. Real down to earth nice guy actually. The other guys were nowhere to be seen.

  • I used to think rock 'n roll was perfected between 1964-1975, then Cheap Trick came along, and I had to re-think everything.

  • These guys and KISS aren't in the Rock-Roll Hall, but ABBA and Madonna are!???! Give me a f###in' break!!!

  • why isn't this on blu-ray?!?!

  • What a band man.

  • ROCK MY WORLD!!!

  • this is their "why don't we do it in the road" :))

  • To Probertfire I agree 110% and I live in Cleveland

  • 1:39 never noticed that change before.these guys could really keep it rolling. They had there own way and it was some of the very best. hats off to these guys.

  • Rock band 2 =D

  • Let's be honest guys; anyone who knows ANYTHING about music, has absolutely no respect or regard for the RnR HOF anyway. It's a joke, always has been. If it burned to the ground, who would care? There's far too many crap bands and musicians that have been inducted to it, so really...it deserves no mention. It has NO credibilty.

  • i've met rick and the rest of the guys before, and they seemed to be alright. i never really had problems with them before.

  • They played at our county fair a couple of years ago. Rick explained something about the key in which a particular song was played ( for some inexplicable reason), then went to the side of the stage and said to a roadie, These people have no fucking idea what I just said." I was 15 feet away and heard it myself. I USED to be a fan.

  • @zzzepptri I've met Bun E. and Robin. Robin I've actually met twice and he was great each time Rick has a rep as being areal jerk when fans meet him. I've met their road amgr a few yrs ago when I was a rock jock and was suppose to interview the band. She couldn't have been a bigger bitch. I wasn't rude, pushy, nothing. As my boss at the time said later "no wonder they're playing county fairs and clubs when they should be selling out arenas."

  • I met Rick twice. Asshole both times.

  • I believe the suit was peach. I saw them at one of their first job in a club in Burbank called Haywire's (later called Harlow's) and that was pre-suit. Great then, great now.

  • Extreme fucking win.

  • I got to see them 3 times. They are one of the best. The sounded great and just kicked ass from beginning to end. They are due a spot at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

  • This is th definetly one of the greatest ever Robin you rock

  • So fantastic it is scary.

  • I'm loving Robin's pink suit! This band is so amazing. Their 70s music especially is so raw and so good. They all are the most under-rated musicians.

  • what company made toms bass that he used in this concert or was it custom?

  • That's a Hamer B12A. You can find them now and then on ebay for about $1500 or so.

  • Comment removed

  • Damn, they just plug it in, and let it rip. Long live Cheap Trick!

  • just a great band...seeing them Sat in Boston...

  • Joe Perry came out on the encore and jamed on Daytripper at this show.

  • i thought i was at this show, but i totally would've remembered Joe being there...maybe i saw them in '79

  • I was at this show. Im getting old.

  • That made me laugh. Yeah..me too.

  • @mike2571 do u remember how u felt at this show? , doesnt it suck to be here now on fuckin youtube lookin at it? . try to get it back!!! try try!! ahhh fuck it glug glug glug

  • Like I posted on another thread, the R & R Hall of SHIT is garbage. It shouldn't even be mentioned by real music fans. Maybe if it imploded, would it even deserve a mention, but until that happens....fuck it. This band is legend. And their first two albums are two of the better albums of the whole 1970s. And that says A LOT.

  • seen em 10 times still amazing.

  • Like the Sex Pistols dressed in Bowie suits. True Rock and Roll. Saw them in London a few years ago. Robin Zander turned up on a London bus at the venue and they played one of the best shows I've EVER seen. Fuck the Hall of Fame. Cheap Trick are in a league of their own.

  • no britany spears miming here LOL

  • Lets write letters and do whatever it takes to get these guys in the R&R hall o fame. They deserve it way more then some of the inductees.

  • agreed!

  • This band is great. I love them.

  • My buddy met these guys in a bar in cincy o,he said they were such great people.

  • August 1982. CNE Grandstand. Toronto, ON. Opening up for Ted Nugent right after Coney Hatch. Absolute classic.

  • nice sound!!

  • Now thats how you open a show......We have learned this medley for our cover band "Smooth Operators" here in San Diego, so much energy....Kicks a**

Don't steal my idea... haha so many cover bands, so many dive bars...see ya out there

  • saw them open for Blue Oyster Cult in 77..been a fan ever since...

  • Now this takes me back, I saw Cheap Trick open for KISS the day Elvis Presley died, Aug. 16 1977.. Been a fan ever since..

  • this song is really good

  • This brings back some good memories, these guys are still some of the best.

  • Just a great fucking original AMERICAN band.

Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame needs to seriously begin redeeming itself with some legitimate inductees, instead of trying to get Chic in every year.

Here's a great way to start. All original members. Ten years eligible for induction. Still making quality albums, still touring, still kicking serious ass.

Hall of Fame, get to it.

  • Funyy how they are not in the Hall of Fame yet they use Rick's guitars in the displays at the Cleveland Hall of Fame..I can't believe they arent in yet..Amazing writing by Rick, Robin has the best vox in rock ..Tom's 12 string bass invention alone is worth induction....and Bun E is always awesome...

  • R&R HOF is crap like The Grammy's are crap.

  • This how rock and roll's done, kiddies!!!!

  • The way it oughta be - balls out rock

  • Rick at 3:19 - 3:25! Thx for posting this. The whole show is fun as hell to watch!

  • I like how their web site is linked to youtube and these videos are available for viewing- great idea- more bands should do this!

  • One of the best fuckin' bands this country has ever known. Wake up people! These guys are more original than any of the crap that's out there now.

  • Rocking like others dream of doing - these guys are/were GREAT

  • I went to this show and one of the best pats was the rendition of Need Yor Love. The guitar "wars" had a guest appearance of Joe Perry from Aerosmith battling Tom! It was awsome and I am surprised it has been left out.

  • I'm pretty sure I was at this show. I probably have the ticket stub around here somewhere.

  • In early 1977 Cheap Trick were relative unknowns in the music world. When I first saw them in '77' I only went after being begged to go by a friend who had a extra ticket. I had never heard of them. The concert was in Detroit. They were the opening band and MANY of the people who were there had never heard of them. When they came out there was clearly a "Susan Boyle" moment with people making fun of them before they ever played a note. No one ever made fun of them again. EVER.........

  • BLESS YOU!

  • another fave from one of my all time fave bands. great opening song and a great classic rocknroll song. i cover this song when i practice all the time. the first time i saw this band this is what they opened the show with. i never forgot them, as they were one of the best opening bands i'd ever seen back in '78.

  • May 9, 2009. Happy Birthday, Tom. I saw you in person in July 1988 when you all opened for Robert Plant at the Hampton Coliseum. Remember? You were awesome. Keep rockin' and show these newbies how it's done.

  • WOW!!! What a find this stuff is!!! If I remember correctly this was at PPAC... Providence Performance Arts Center. My friend went to the show, got pictures of the band outside as they were coming into the venue They've been lost for years but I remember them being really close up shots. One of the local radio stations also broadcast this gig live on the air. Not sure if it was WHJY or JB 105 but I had the original recording from the actual show. Thaniks for this one!!! AWESOME find!!!!!

  • amazing!

  • This so needs to be on DVD!

  • First saw Cheap Trick in 77. They were the opening band on a bill featuring several other groups, one of which was Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers. After Cheap Trick played their opening set we were so blown away that we decided right then and there to just go home and skip seeing the rest of the bands. We knew that whatever we saw after that would never compare to the show that Cheap Trick put on.

  • Awesome story Daniel! I would have too. Nothing compares to the sound of Cheap Trick live!!!

  • I plan on doing just that on this tour. Why waste the rest of the night on Poison and Def Leotard?

  • Yeah, Cheap Trick rules.

  • Always Awesome!

  • Unlike most rock singers........ I swear Robins voice has gotten better through the years. It's great in these performances but i think its only become stronger thru the decades

  • Hey,, it's great to see these guys still rock'n, I saw them in 76 , playing at Headliners down on State St in Madison. Saw a lot great beginnings there,, Pat Benatar, J Cougar, and others

  • Totally rock and roll! Saw them in Richfield,Oh with Pete Comita on bass for this tour. Even though Tom was gone it still rocked!

  • This is too godamn cool!! I have had a live radio show 3 LP set of this show for many years, but I never knew it was filmed!! This needs to be released now...or sooner! 100% total rock!

    Still the greatest band ever!!!

  • HELLLLLLYA! This should be released on DVD immediately!

  • Yes Robin I am always ready to rock.

  • The Trick is on fire here...ON FIRE!!!

  • Is that Tom on bass if it is his hair is different cause didn't he leave in 1980

  • That would be Tom. He left the band in October, 1980.

  • yup thats tom he came back in 88 or 87

  • hmm....Kurt Cobain was influenced by who???

  • Hello Ladies & Gentlemen

I'm from France but I've always liked this band.

I saw them at The London Royal Albert hall in 2003, it way still fantastic.

Now they turn with Def leppard

    Carry on boys....I love you...

  • This needs to come out on DVD. It looks (and possibly sounds better than the Budokan 1978 DVD.

  • Well said! I studied the Budokan DVD about 5 times. Robin was near perfect in all aspects. The Rhode Island Show looks like the band gave an A+++ performance. I love these great Americans artists.

  • I'd buy this on DVD, any plans for xmas release?

  • nice fake out with dream police into hello there! CHEAP TRICK rules!

  • "Hello there ladies and gentlemen helo there ladies and gents are you ready to rock? are you ready to rock?"

  • I am ready to rock!

  • You're probably just passing a kidney stone

  • good one!

  • These guys really kicked A back in there day. Glad they are still touring now so us baby boomers can share the great sounds and energy. Rock on Rockford,Illinois Champions!

  • If anyone has this on DVD or VHS I will make you an EXCELLENT offer with UNSEEN LIVE video & Rick interview. Please PM me here!

  • Nice little fake out

  • I think this isright before Tom Petersson left . And Pete Comita took over on the 12 string bass. For one year !!

  • I WAS AT THIS SHOW!!!! Awesome!

  • WOW!

  • great bass sound, can really hear the 12 string buzz.

  • awesome this song rocks

  • I've had the audio of this show since it was first broadcast on "Super Groups In Concert' back in 1981...good to finally see the video of this show
