@upinflamezzz you can't move just the programs. The programs must be installed to windows7. Doing an install over xp of windows 7 it will keep your windows xp files in a folder on your home drive. C: generally.
@synapsysptyltd You're absolutely right, I was wondering what the hell he was talking about. In fact you can drop the GUI and do everything from the console
I LOVE ACRONIS! Been using it since 2008 and bought upgrades until 2010. I need to go to Acronis 2011, but money is gone now! LOL! Western Digital provides Acronis.
I use clonezilla since around a half year. Its for free, its easy its awesome. The biggest point why i dont use arconis is the price, becaus for privatuse its to expensive.
@SoldierDDR madness i paid 50 uk money to buy acronis im happy with it caz saved me time and time but i would try this why not if its free and people say its good,ill try this soon well need a bit of training thanks 4 info dude
Keep up the hand gestures Chris! I do it too. I watched the whole vid and sped read through all the comments up to here. Chris, I applaud your efforts and envy your video editing abilities, but you goofed on some major Acronis things. 1, Acronis is a kernel-initrd (linuxoid) thing, & has nothing to do with PE. 2. YOU DO NOT have to install it to use. You boot off the CD. Heck, if you knew what you were doing, you could "clone" the CD to the thumb drive and create USB media without installing.
Stay away from Acronis True Image 2010 it's full of bugs. We used it to clone the drive on an laptop. After doing so we got a message saying that the copy was good, however we were unable to boot from the new drive. After 4 weeks we got an email from Acronis saying that "we don't recommend using the home and office product for critical backups"
@D3w10n I've been using Acronis for years and i have never seen any option of boot method. The Acronis menu offers to make bootable media as a CD or DVD or to a USB device. That's it. Where are you seeing these other OS options and which specific version of Acronis are you referencing?
@CareyHolzman I use a bootable media created from "Acronis Backup & Restore advanced Workstation for Windows" with Universal restore addition, and yes I made an error in my last comment... When creating bootable media you are asked for boot method.
I stopped watching at 6:44 because you've said both were very fast then you said it took Acronis 6 minutes to complete the job while clonezilla took 17 minutes.
@weallknowitstrue setting this up in Acronis would be pretty easy, install it on both, create incremental backups on both, make sure the acronis loader is installed. Easy as pie. But really it makes wayyyy more sense to just dual boot 7 and XP then deal with the space and time of imaging and restoring them both all the time. bad idea.
Hi! Is Clonezilla capable of cloning an IDE drive to SATA (win xp on it) and durig the cloning would it change the IDE driver to SATA inside the windows installation?
i have been using norton ghost for a few entire pc backup but i still want to ask this. do true image and norton ghost performs a formation for the hard disk(s)? do they formats the hard disk(s) before backing them up?
Even more PROs for Acronis are: - The boot Disk contains lots of drivers for Network-Cards, RAID+HD Controllers, Net-Clients for SMB, FTP, USB etc. With the one CD i can load/restore from pretty much ANY Fileserver around. it can resize partitions SO EASY, without any pre-calculations or preparing.. you go off with just this one CDROM. thats so kewl !!! WEll it costs a bit.. but it is still worth it.
What Version of Acronis TrueImage did you test ?!? As far i know Acronis is using LINUX as Live-OS no WinPE/BartPE. In Fact they offer a plugin for those, but the basic boot cdrom is linux based, even it looks like a full blown windows GUI.
I'm a geek and Acronis True Image Echo Workstation wins hands down every time if only for ease of use. Yes, you have to pay some money for it but one of the great features is that you can restore to dissimilar hardware or virtual machine. You can't beat free but you can see where your money has gone with Acronis.
Hi there, you really gave me a good idea. What I am thinking about doing is using Clonezilla and having clones of desktops I need to restore on a USB flash drive. Can get 16GB Usb drives now, and so if I make the USB drive bootable with clonezilla, it should be easy to get things going. Would be super if you could make a show on that ..
I need a backup of a non system drive. Just 200 gigs of pictures and home made clips. All I care about is to preserve the original file attributes, especially date and time. So the question really is Acronis vs Winrar?
Awesome video, those are 2 of my favorite programs. I like how the video seemed professional and you really new what you were talking bout. Keep up the vidoes
How do I clone everything but the OS. I want everything from my XP Pro machine on my new Win 7 Pro machine including programs.

Actually, the Acronis bootable media is Linux, not WinXP/BartPE. Also Acronis Home costs $49.99, not $80 as the reviewer says.

Acronis gets my vote as well, as myersgroup123 said, if only for the ease of use...
and as its a busybox type of linux distribution its possible to boot it from just about anything.
I currently have it booting off USB sticks and our company PXE server implemented using FOG.
version 9 is simply awesome & works on just about any hardware under the sun, it also supports hardware & software RAIDs.
heck, v10 can backup Xen LVMs! (but i realy donlt like v10 so i dont recommend it over v9.

HELP.
I am running RAID10 on a Promise EX8300 RAID Card
I want to swap between two different images:
= Windows XP 32bit;
= Windows 7 64bit;
And change between them regularly.
Any ideas which cloning software will let me do that?
FYI: I also know about and run virtuals - but I need to change my native OS.
I would be grateful to anyone who ACTUALLY knows
Cheers

You're wrong, you don't need to know any Unix/Linux commands if you use CloneZilla.
If you use the Clonezilla live CD or Parted Magic Live cd you're guided through a GUI. Derp.
