Can some one give me some advice. I Just joined a 5-a side league with some of my mates. I am GK and I'm Ok with diving to my right, but I cant seem to dive to my left. I just do a kind of falling over thing. I don' know if it is just a fear of diving to that side but does anyone have any tips to get used to diving. It's just annoying because at the moment I have to deal with it by standing more towards the left side which leaves the right side more exposed.
i hate holding the ball out that far sometimes it gets kicked out of ur hands and the ref sometimes doesnt see it and they end up getting a goal so i hold it to my chest and never let go till i have room
@purple0wnzx if you have your hands on the ball the other team isnt allowed to kick it and they dont i promise you i just got done with my soccer game and i've had it out that far before none of them ever tried to kick it out of my hands cuz the ref always sees if they do you may think the refs arent paying attention but they are
hey dude. the striker is always gonna kick away from the keeper, so it don't matter if your position right, you still gotta dive if the striker shoots for that top 90...
What??? Dude u don't learn diving...U have the diving skills inside you...you just have to jump and save...whats the hard part? Im a Goalkeeper and i can tell you that i didn't learn to dive...i just jumped and i got mor and more compfortable with it...
Man goalkeeping is so hard u can spend the entire match waiting and standing at one place and the last minute u have to be able to give everything you`ve got in order to get the ball like it`s a matter of life and death and im still learning to do this.
guys i have a problem..can someone teach me the technique of catching/saving the ball that goes straight to my nuts...i have been already hit 2 times there
@rswoodcutter you will want to drop lower so it gets you stomach/chest, and if you are already down on the ground just use your hands, as your hands should always be the first thing to touch the ball anyway.
Nooooo! You want to thrust the opposite leg and get as much force in the jump as possible. The path you jump in should look like a rainbow so you land on the ball and it takes up all the pressure. You can get hurt landing on your side.
im a goalkeeper i kick the ball with my left foot but i have trouble diving towards that side, im good at diving to the right but not to the left what can i do
also when doing a low, diving catch, don't forget to secure the ball into your chest immediately.. with your arms stretched out, it would still be legal for any approaching forward to toe it out of your hands and do a follow up..
when your a good goalkeeper u rarely have to dive because you gotta be quick on your toes and get to the ball the only reason for diving is if caught out of position and need to react quickly thumbs up if u think its true
@macoboy13 thats true only part of the time. Theres Penalty kicks where you have to dive most of the time, and if you've ever watched the pros you'd realize no matter what positioning you have the goal is so big, you'd never be able to completely cut off the entire goal. So yes diving is a neccessity as a goal keeper.
@macoboy13 Sorry, but it doesnt matter how good you are. or how quick you are. you never know what is going to happen when a shot is taken. Most of the time GKs are ready yes, but what about a deflection? You might have to dive. Watch a little more soccer football first. Even Casillas the best GK at the moment and also Van Der Sar have to dive. I think this video is good fr beginners, and if you are better then make your own video.
@macoboy13 diving dosent always mean your out of position, you can have good positioning and need to perform a diving save, if someone hits it with alot of power top corner id like to see you get there in time without diving??
whenever I try diving on my right I end up landing on my shoulder and slightly hurting myself. it's fine if I dive on my left, but can't seem to do it on the right side
im a Goalkeeper scouted by Chelsea Diving is easy but its all about confidence. are you confident in your diving and do you trust it its all about risk too.
since the world cup ive really got into football so i have been going to our local field where they have goal posts to have a go at goalkeeping. I have quite quick reflexes and am quite tall but the thing that lets me down is the diving. I CANT DIVE... i just......CANT!! Im too worried about hurting myself it try to dive but instinct takes over and i stick my feet out!! Do you know any way i can overcome this fear or anything i can do to ease myself into it with going for a full on dive?? :S xx
@laurenlovesMJ Its your confidence, Most begginner goalkeepers go through this
you will not hurt yourself, trust me on this one, if you get something really soft like a load of old sheets then put them on the floor in your garden or something and practice it.. that way you know your not going to hurt yourself then just keep taking sheets off then in a days time you'll have confident to dive.. hope it helped :)
@laurenlovesMJ in the times of the roman empire ,a soilder was never scared of death,he would die with respect. just dont care about whats going to happen ,if do get hurt,u will be respected. just dive ,throw the world to garbage. cause if u never got hurt by goalkeeping then ur not worth to be a goalie!
I used to be a keeper when i was around 12 yet my body was reluctant to grow, now I'm finally over 6ft, I've started again, but my diving on my left foot seems to be poor, that's why I'm trying to get back to basics, not because I'm a totally poor keeper.
@wolfexpertXD Its all about the land. Try not to land on your arm/elbow area, that could cause a lot of pain, when i started I did it a lot. When you dive, always try to get both hands on the ball. If you grab it out of the air, when you land you want your arms out just far enough that you can atleast bring the ball into your body for protection. I would suggest starting with low shot as you dont have to worry about your landing as much. Make your you practice on grass though :P
i had the same problem. just try to practice your right side more, for example do 10 dives to your left and 20 or 30 to your right. you'll see it'll get better in a hurry
you need to be rushing the offensive man because each step you take you give them less of an angle and the knee training is to help with the cordination not meant for a game because yes they will chip it over you and you all ways need to stand striaght because its alot easier to go down than go up :)
I'm still having trouble diving to my right, i have to hope people shoot to my left so I can make the save, but those who know my right side is weak, continue to exploit this, any tips to put this right are very much appreciated thanks.
@LunaticMelonz298 i have a tip. when you are training and you have to dive to your right, try to do a soft swinging of your body, left to rigth, do it one or two times, increase it, every time, and finally do the dive, you'll realize that if you do it right, your technique will improve.
always stay near to the goal, this happened to me once when i went up to get the ball but was to slow, they then kicked it in the goal easily. Also the knee dive is good for training i was on my knees once but they made it over me, anyways this is a good training video.
hey i am a goalkeeper and u must work on ur left diving side or u'll never keep good on the penalties or left-sided free kicks.. Work hardly on left sided diving(1-2 months) and maybe my advice will help & i hope you are going to do it.. Notice me if there are some results:D
i just have a problem ... i can save penalties and all the stuff.. my only problem is that i cant dive to my left. any advice on how to improve this..? BTW im right footed
Maybe Robinson? I think he can learn how to catch a ball! England have the worst keepers in the world, thats the reason why their nationalteam have no chances at big tournaments.
try diving on grass, not concrete or anything else, and always land on your side to soften the impact. put your bodyweight on your thighs, not ur arms.rate me up if you think that this worked for u, cause i m trying to help u all, want to see how many i've helped
when i am in goal i cant seem to be able to force my self to dive for the ball. i have tried everything but still no matter what i do, i still cant seem to be able to dive for the ball. any one got any advice?
Start squatting down, and just fall over. Then Eventually get a little higher and higher. Then go back down, and instead of falling over push off al ittle .Then a little mroe and a little more. Then higher and higher.
Also if you do this you have a less chance of getting hurt, because your body will eventually harden mor eand more on the areas your landing on. It prepares you mentally and physically.
i had the same problem when i was starting to play goalkeeper and i know how its like but you got to dont think about it just dive and just think that it's nothing dangerous and nothing is gonna happen to me and you will be fine it's just grass and if you really cant force yourself to dive for the ball try diving without a ball just to make you feel how it is to dive and land probably
yeah the problem was he tried to force the ball to stop, he didnt bend his elbows back to negate the force. So that will happen unless properly handled.
ya same when i dive for a low kick or a high kick and i land i land on my pelvis the bony bit and it really hurts any tips on how i can land so it doesnt hurt?
when you dive... try to keep looking at the ball the whole time you are on the air... this will help you change your landing position and you'll land on your belly rather than on your thigh. well this is what i do and it works well, if you have any more questions fill free to ask me through a message.
Well, I hurt myself too, specially when I dive downwards to block a low ball I sometimes scrape my elbow and knees. But i never hurt my thigh, some other advice is to use your arms to soften the fall. ill send you a link to a good video about this guy training as a goalkeeper and you'll see how he "twists" his body to land on his belly. (He jums pretty high)

first do it in a comfortable area, like a park, and get from less intense training to more and more then eventualy you will do it.

i had the same problem when i was starting to play goalkeeper and i know how its like but you got to dont think about it just dive and just think that it's nothing dangerous and nothing is gonna happen to me and you will be fine it's just grass and if you really cant force yourself to dive for the ball try diving without a ball just to make you feel how it is to dive and land probably
dive like a lunatic it will help
peter schmeichel learn it that way

at the end of video..hes doing a very stupid and unforgivable mistake..he cant do all that footwork..i mean he cant ''run''
inside those poles..u should do only 1 pass and then dive!!!!!

One mistake he's doing the entire video is that after he has made the save, the ball came up from the ground.
Example: 4:14 - 4:24. Especially at 4:18. THE BALL SHOULD BE ON THE GROUND, NEVER LET THE BALL COME UP IN THE AIR AFTER YOU'VE LANDED ON THE GROUND.

its the same save

yeah the problem was he tried to force the ball to stop, he didnt bend his elbows back to negate the force. So that will happen unless properly handled.

one question ? how fast are the soccer balls being kicked during this session??
lmike13 3 years ago
Whenever I dive I land on my thigh/hip and it really hurts and normally comes out with a big bruise.
What can I do? where should I land first?
kikme124 3 years ago
You can buy keeper shorts, they're padded on the sides and work well if you're playing on rough surfaces.

man i have a keeper shorts but my hips still hurt..

when you dive... try to keep looking at the ball the whole time you are on the air... this will help you change your landing position and you'll land on your belly rather than on your thigh. well this is what i do and it works well, if you have any more questions fill free to ask me through a message.

Thank you for this advice, but tell me why I always hurt my knee,my thigh and my shoulder when I dive?
UltraBadg3r 2 years ago
Well, I hurt myself too, specially when I dive downwards to block a low ball I sometimes scrape my elbow and knees. But i never hurt my thigh, some other advice is to use your arms to soften the fall. ill send you a link to a good video about this guy training as a goalkeeper and you'll see how he "twists" his body to land on his belly. (He jums pretty high)
