aww I've done that before - I got shouted at my a grumpy farmer for being thoughtless, even though at that moment I was getting snapped at by 3 of his dogs in the middle of the road and he thought that was alright >.>.
i love your screen name! lol but yeah and i understand if your jumping and ud have to keep your reins short for quick turns and stuff but i barrel race and we turn 3 360 degree turns at a gallop and dont keep "contact on the bit" but what ev i dont undersdtand why they do like on trails or just simple arena work and theres bareback bridleless reining and they can get there horse to do almost anything with no bit or reins! so whatev lol thanks for agreeing! lol
yeah i would love to try western etc. we found a western saddle at the riding school and tried it out it was way better! poor horse was like what? hehe. yeah you guys really do turn fast at gallop god i would be too scared!
to get the right contact and keep control of their horse.
If a horse suddenly bolted and a rider had loose, floppy reins you'd have to bring them up by your shoulders before they'd even feel any pressure on the bit to stop, it's also to keep a horse collected and turning correctly.
english is a whole different way of riding to western.

Its not only because its 'proper', but they use snaffle bits which require a short rein.
JessieJaneCreations 3 years ago
western people ride in a snaffle at times and still neck rein or long direct rein

Yes, and I was referring towards the English discipline. Western is pretty different from English ;-)
