It's quite ridiculous to have to explain to visitors to our country that even though we are a sovereign nation we are headed by the queen of another foreign country. This may have made sense until the immediate post war years, when we were still economically reliant on Britain as our main trading partner. But that situation no longer exists. After the fall of Singapore it was also obvious that we could no longer rely on Britain for our security, and since then have relied on the US.

I wish the Scottish people luck in their quest. Australia gained it's "independence" from mother England in 1901 but it will be a long time yet before we completely sever the cord. Elizabeth is still our head of state. She's on all our coins. We didn't have our own Foreign Policy until after WWII. In fact, didn't have our own National Anthem until 1984. The last national referendum on becoming a republic was sabotaged by the incumbent conservative government. (Continued in next comment)
