quick question, the arduinome is basically a monome in every way except not made by monome.

because i am interested in getting a monome but they are out of kits. and i think an arduinome would be less expensive overall.

It is the same instrument, based on open source that was provided by Tehn from monome. You can find all the info you need on the monome site in the forums under Arduinome category or in the docs there. A great project to do, JUst be patient and detail oriented when you solder everything. It'll cost about $150-200 depending where you get the parts from, etc. Also it does not include enclosure (but monome kits don't include it either).

ok thanks that was very informative. now i have another question, upon further research on teh monome site i have found that monome have aso give out full details on fabricating their boards and the parts used and everything.

what would be the difference between choosing arduino or monome projects?

Unless you can design and fabricate multilayer PCB's you would have to somehow got them made or order them to be made. Arduinome logic board is available in 3 diffrenet formats now: unsped shield, Bibo's logic board and Starfire AIO (all in one board). YOu also would have to order button board and buttons to go with it. MOst people now use either SParkfun boards (4 interconnected to make 64 key arduinome), Bibo's board and sparfun buttons or livid pcb's+ keypads.

just want to get something clear, i've seen mentions of the unsped shield, now is that a replacement to the regular arduino usb board? or is that an add-on? when making an arduinome, on the flipmu site on the parts list page, it should have everything i need right?

unsped shield is the pcb that goes between your arduino board with USB connector and the button PCB with the keypads. Yes the flipmu site has all the parts you need, although you may consider Bibo's button PCB instead of the SParkfun 4 button PCB's that you'd have to interconnect. I've done both and Bibo's is much easier. Sparkfun buttons pads fit it perfectly. Fewer things to mess up. Just a thought. Other than that all the parts are there on the flipmu site

so i have been searching more about the diff shield boards, unsped and starfire AIO. which one do you recommend? seems like the starfire would be easier overall considering it's both an arduino board plus the shield.

i haven't looked at bibo stuff yet.

i am trying to get as much information to make the right decision for which parts to get because i will be shipping to egypt and i hate to miss something and have to reorder.

STarfire's board may be cheaper but they just ended a group buy on the components. And it's not quite known project; it just came up about 2 months ago. TO begin with I would start with unsped shield and BIbo's pcb board (he's in Italy) and the rest of the parts excluding sparfun 4 pcb boards (although you will still need the key silicone buttons from them)

i have spent all day at monome's community forums and i have learned alot and i got in touch with someone who can possibly get me the starfire board.

honestly man i can't thank you enough, you were right there when i needed some help giving me excellent feedback! there were so many aspects i had skipped while trying to figure out what i need to get. you really helped.

hello, could you tell me wich leds did you use in your monome and the resistor ref. i really like that blue.

I bought them from digikey, here is the item number:

754-1248-ND

If I remember correctly the resistor value is 22.6 Kohm. You can check it against the table listing parts. ( I buit a few of them using 22.4K and even 22K, but if you want to be sure stick with the suggested valupe. You can also get6 these from digikey.
