@dysthymia83 well i was speaking of the xmas spirit i keep hearing about... but if you mean greedmas, or consumermas... then walmart is a church! and the mall is a christian rock concert!!! anyway you slice it, i find the holiday season way more disgusting than charming or touching. and have you ever seen the early versions of santa?!?!?!? one was a drunk riding a turkey, and i believe he was all about bringing happiness to the adults.
@HolyHogShit Drunk and riding a turkey? LOL. That sounds like a lot of people's uncles on Thanksgiving. And adults already have their version of Santa. His name is Jesus. =P
@dysthymia83 it was a discovery channel show a few years ago(i havent watched tv in a while) and that santa was dressed like a british guy or perhaps a pilgrim, dont quite remember, but himm being drunk and atop a giant turkey were the 2 main things for that one. several versions were skinny, most were creepy, a few scary... wish i remembered the name of the show, would love to see it agian. really is like a splash of cold water in the face about the whole Xmas ordeal!
The things that make us feel like there is a war on Christmas is big retailers like Target banning the word Christmas, replacing it with "Holiday" or "Season". Chase bank ordering a local branch to take down a Christmas tree lest it offend someone. All those type of things make us feel like there is a war on Christmas.
Again, it's just Capitalism. They don't want potentially offend non-Christian customers and turn away their business. It's not a "war", it's just greed.
I can't speak for all Atheists or Liberals, but I have no problem with X-Mas trees or decorations, as long as they are non-religious (no nativity scenes) and not on public/government property. And banning the word "Christmas" is just silly. It's a secular, federal holiday in addition to it being holy for Christians.
I am not disagreeing there, but that doesn't make it feel any less like a war. When we took out Saddam in Iraq, a big part of the reason was maintaining a sure supply of oil. Capitalism. We probably don't do that if 90% of the world's oil is in Japan. But that doesn't make it seem any less like a war to the Iraqis.
there is a war on xmas, and it is being waged by wal mart! oh and the mall.

@HolyHogShit I think Wal-Mart and the mall are fighting on X-Mas's side...that's why they have decorations up the day after Easter.

@HolyHogShit Sounds funny. I wonder if they had a focus group come in and decide which Santa they liked best, LOL.
