The main target of antispywares is Windows, so I don't care about it for Linux. I don't use Linux everytime, but i've benn using it for almost one year and no problems without spyware or viruses.
If i download linux and burn it to a dvd, and have the dvd in the drive at a boot up, will it automatically give me the option of dual-booting? so i can choose which operating system to use?
In fact with ubuntu the .iso you will burn will make a "live CD". You will be able to use Ubuntu without installing anything : it is just for test. After, if you are satisfied, you will click on "install" icon on the ubuntu desktop. It will launch the installation of Linux. If you have a second partition on your hard disk, install linux on it and when all is finished, a boot loader calle grub is installed and let you choose wich operationg system u want to launch (dual_boot).

I don't know.
But with last version of Ubuntu, the program that replace Beryl is "Compiz-fusion".
And now, no problem any more with ATI card (with last fglrx drivers) and no need to install XGL !
I think with your computer it will work... try it !
