umm no...this camera has horrible high iso noise compared to canon's offerings (i.e. 5d mk II) and this camera also doesn't offer the range of canon's L series of lenses, among other things.
Well, if you wanna call a magnesium weather sealed body weighing 850g, plasticky, you have some issues with gravity. And I think it was the right decision not to have an integrated body grip as some people who want a pro body actually feel the D3 is too big for them. So Sony gives them the option to chose.
I agree with you dombower, a nice monoblock will look nice! but the A900 is competing against the nikon d700 and canon 5d MkII that had a separate battery grip.
Mmm, the A900 have some professionals futures (megapix, huge viewfinder,FF sensor...) but it price tag (3000$) is about the same than the nikon D700. The 1ds mk3 is 7,999$,at this price, I don't think it atract the same style of people than the A900.
i agree lynseyweatherspoon, i think that sony wanted to see peoples reactions and then fix the firmware in the camera according to the public's reaction,
i cant wait to see the photographs from a full production mule with the newest firmware. . . especially in RAW
i'm still waiting on a fully in-depth preview myself. but i'm thinking the reviews we're seeing now are just to tweak some of the problems with the a900
the buttons on the battery grip might be confusing but its convinient

true. it does not offer as much range as canon BUT
it still has the greatest lens ever *zeiss*
and im sure theirs more to come! *the legendary minolta lenses are compatible as well*
also its not like sony was in the camera business for like 30 years or something.
sony only been here for 4 years. 4 YEARS!!!
Thats pretty damn good for one of the highest megapix camera. and they did it in less than 4 years.
canon could have never achieved that in 4 years
you gotta give sony some credit

This comment has received too many negative votes show
optional battery grip? for a camera that size i would want it to be an intigrated battery grip like the d3
still looks plasticy and cheap
