  • Considering David wrote the song and now since miley cyrus cover smells like teen spirit, I'm sure nirvana has a lot of 12 years old fans who claimed there version is better

  • que buena cancion,...........

  • Nirvana and bowies version of this song are as good as eachother

  • first time hearing this version of the song, sounds weird, but interesting :D

  • love this song hats off to irishman bowie!!!

  • Bowie has a naturally good voice and I love it and him, so why would he try to autotune his already perfect voice? I don't understand

  • Nirvana version and this are both awesome. But props to Bowie as he wrote it

  • Early form of autotune? Damn that voice can't stand it!

  • @dontevermind This song was recorded many years before the digital technology need for autotune was available - it's 100% analogue audio fx. Phasing & flanging. APart from that Bowie was quite capable of singing in tune - at least he was when I saw him play at the Romford Odeon on the Ziggy Stardust tour.

  • personally i like both versions. but if i had to choose i would go for nirvanas. only because im a diehard nirvana fan

  • @Ingloriousfan16 without Bowie's "version", Nirvana's version wouldn't even exist..

  • @giancarlomc i do realize that. i am not saying the origional wasnt GOOD. i just ment out of personal prefrence i would choose the nirvana cover.

  • I've heard Midge Ure and Simple Minds cover this song before, both versions I like, but not previously the original. I can't understand why I haven't heard a version with a different chord at the end of the chorus. I'll try to do so myself perhaps...

  • judtagirl you are fucking awesome

  • I think thisone is better

  • This is the trippiest shit I've ever heard.

  • @StaticBloodworks he just turned 65 I am almost54. I remember when but love all sorts of music, plese keep your mind and ears open Bowie is the bomb.

  • @musique897 I meant it in a very good way.(:

  • Magic DAVID, from other planet

  • Kurt Cobain does state at the end of the song that, "it is a David Bowie!" I think that they were paying homage to Bowie, and rocking out at the same time. Stop Youtube Violence; The Only One Who Get Hurt Are The Kids :-(

  • I love D

  • Kurt sang this song more beautifully !

  • @arshiaghafghazian kurt was a fucking junkie who killed himself and couldn't sing properly

  • @UzytkownikJoeMonster FUCK OFF!

  • @MsajCenzurat exactally how i would put it.

  • @UzytkownikJoeMonster bull shit.

  • I think bowie fans (including me) are upset because people thinks this is a Nirvana song. But the problem here is not Kurt, he gave the credit, at the beggining of the song or the end i dont remember he said it was from bowie. The problem here are the ignorant people who thinks that this is from Nirvana. I respect Kurt, i dont really like nirvana just a few songs, but I mean they are good.

  • I preffer this version it is like an obscure song and mysterious

  • *owned thiscs

  • Cobain absolutely oe

  • david = kurt

  • Comment removed

  • @paulgrosding wtf? Were any of those words supposed to have lexical, logical or syntactic relevance?

  • I have to say as a fan of both bowie and cobain there both there own style but I think kurts sounds just better... Bring on the thumbs down

  • @alecburn No thumbs down, I respect that you stated your opinion respectfully.

  • david > kurt

  • this song killing me

  • Bowie and ANNIE my favorite but I just love them Both excuse ME It was real and I have not seen much since!!!!!!!!!!

  • wow, nice sound quality ... given a good speaker / phones, you can hear all kinds of sound ... thanks for uploading this :)

  • I like ozzys version better

  • Nice song Peal Jam version is good too, the one where teh singer has a green pullover.

  • Love Bowie and I love this version, but Nirvana made it their own and I like that, so I like Nirvana's version. Please don't hate me just because of my opinion.1

  • ONE ONLY, feels ,thinks, live it ,WRITES AND SINGS IT FIRST.

The rest ,whatever ever , is and will allways only remain THE REST.

  • I don't understand why people would argue which version was better, you guys think that Kurt was trying to "out shine" Bowie's version? He was paying tribute to an artist who influenced him. Do you think just because our physicists have equations for space and time that it would take away from the first people to invent Math?

  • @gravity111587 Good point. More importantly Bowie is banging a supermodel on a pile of cash right now and Kurt Cobain is in a wooden box with half a head.

    Bowie-1

    Cobain-0

  • @LegionnaireEtrangere actually Kurt was incinerated, before dying he 'banged' the woman he loved and gave him a child. Kurt loved the song, respected Bowie, that's all.

  • @monicakurt I thought Cobain went missing from rehab for like two weeks before his suicide. For the record though, I think Cobain was very talented and I do love his music. But, I definately think Bowie's version is better (just my opinion.) Cobain's suicide was sad, but it's what made him a legend. He went out on top and on his terms. Nobody can take that away.

  • @gravity111587 You aren't comparing the two! Euclid and Pythagoras are spinning in their graves right now.

  • @gravity111587 well put sir, well put. even though i like the original much better, you still make an excellent point

  • si la verda me gusta mas la version de nirvanna

  • "creet" "creet" "creet" "creet" "creet" "creet" "creet"

  • that "rthat" sound...

  • @Sjonkelrollff

It´s an instrument called "güiro", very common in caribbean music like salsa and merengue

  • no one realizes. the nirvana unplugged session was a lot of kurt paying tribute to his inspiration.

Bowie and Kobain both had a very poetic style. That's why he covered them very seamlessly. Also, he gives credit to everyone he covers, if you watch the actual unplugged session...

I don't understand the argument you people are making..

  • Just AMAZING !!!

Thank you very much for sharing !!

    I love it !!!

  • AMATER!!!

  • Kurt's version is better than bowie's version!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • @izrapeerally1 well it's Nirvanas version that's better kurt was just the singer not the band.

  • lol nice job rippin off kurt. kurt>this dork

  • @locdogg18750 Kurt covered this song. so this is the original not Kurt's version.

  • this man has a natural autotune in his voice he was born with! ahhaha

  • What's the effect used on the voice? I've heard it before on other songs? Either that or Bowies voice is wierd

  • This version bends Nirvana's over something solid and rails it in the ass multiple times.

  • Respect to Nirvana but Bowies version WINS!

  • I prefer the nivarna version this is to gimpy

  • This remaster sucks ass

  • fuck the way he swings,,the man's legend!!!

  • he was called himself a closet hederosexual

    but who cares really?

his poetry makes other subect a mute point

  • he's not bisexual or gay, he's straight

  • @mimimixproductions He's totally bi. That's silly to think otherwise. Just accept it.

  • @BerryDense No he's not, he's straight, look on wikipedia.

  • @mimimixproductions ROFL! You're REALLY gonna try to prove your argument with Wikipedia?! FAIL!

  • @mimimixproductions And just so we're clear, I went ahead and looked up his Wikipedia article, and he retracts his bi statement, THEN he retracts his retraction. And they spelled his daughter's name wrong. I wouldn't put too much faith in Wikipedia.

  • @mimimixproductions Sorry, but wiki isnt trustworthy

  • he's not bisexual

  • I spoke into his eyes I thought you died oh no not me .?4All:.>>> thank Ualways:)>>

  • Nice pics! tks! and I just can say that I had 4 mn of an amazing moment! ;)) and I'm a fan of Bowie soooo! tks again! (I'm 42 years old).

  • is it really true, that the guitar is " Marc Bolan " ? ? ?

  • come on people kurts its good but think about kurt must of think this song is fucking amazing i want to sing this and show we can make a good cover song and they did its only a cover remember the original is mr bowie so fuk you all who hates the original u dont know what the fuk u r talking about !!!!!

  • Bullshits..!!!Kurt Is So Fuckin Perfect..!!!Kurt Is A God..!!!

  • @xristosdaiana my arse , kurts not a got , bowie is

  • R.I.P David Bowie =-(

  • @Chrisg586 Hes not dead.

  • @Chrisg586 David Bowie is 64 and alive and well

  • @Chrisg586 hes not dead :L

  • @Chrisg586 He's still alive..

  • @Chrisg586 WTF?! D: HE'S ALIVE!

  • Fuck Nirvana they should have never touched bowie's song! Kurt was a whiny no talent bitch, face it faggots!

  • Holy shit, I had no idea Nirvana covered Bowie. I love him that much more now. :D

  • yap yap yap enjoy the tunes eh

  • Bowie and Kurt are both freaking amazing ok? so shut up and just enjoy the song :)

  • @howltothemoon101 i totaly agree with you!!!!!

  • I'm a hella big Nirvana dork, and this is actually my first time listening to the original The Man Who Sold The World. I should have listened to this long ago :D It's fucking beyond wonderful. I love the effects they did. His voice is pretty damn good.

  • he's not the best singer but he doesn't need to be.

  • @20cFilmWannabe why? I think his voice is so unique and different....

  • @The51days i know, he isn't regarded for his singing ability its the great music he makes and like you said his unique voice if you know what i mean :)

  • The effect is called a phaser. It's on half of any decent guitar amplifier. There was no auto tune in his day.

  • Who is the man who sold the world? Maybe Gary Glitter? ..

  • OMFG you guys I was about to cry until I looked it up and there was nothing about him being dead. You assholes scared me!

  • He has stopped touring because of his health.

  • lmao why does everyone think hes dead?

  • Bowie isn't dead morons.

  • troll 1 dumbassres 0 mwahahahhahaha

  • Now David and Kurt are singing this duet in heaven. RIP David. RIP Kurt.

  • R.I.P legend

  • RIP David Bowie

  • @MrBreezer88

WHY DOES EVERY THINK HE IS MOTHERFUCKING DEAD, HE IS NOT SHITTING DEAD, WHERE THE FUCK DID YOU GET THAT SHIT FROM, BITCH?

  • Rip David Bowie

  • Trying to make a comparison between a band that marked a decade and a man that marked MUSIC is a bit silly. ;)

  • This is a really good song.

  • SHUT THE FUCK ABOUT NIRVANA AND BOWIE!!! they are both good (but bowie is better)

  • its slog not slag..and hoorah for nirvana...cheers to those who suffered cobain...smart bit of music he made for all to enjoy..shame for his daughter no dad and all..no points to him for that..Bowie is amasing!...his ex has taken the piss out of all

  • Stop saying bowie is just some musician or 'pretty good' he is a master of music and is an influential figure. Without him nirvana would not have existed. I prefer nirvana but you don't have to slag bowie off.

  • Are there really people who think Bowie's voice is autotuned LMFAO. It didn't exist when this song was recorded ya dorks.

  • @halag There were types of pitch shifting models around, just not branded AutoTune.

  • @2EOG Yep. And different techniques to effect sound but not the same as the autotuned pitch correction that's used today to make Kei$ha sound like she can actually sing. LOL

  • @halag I hope when you said Kesha you meant the vast majority of pop singers :)

  • @2EOG No I meant Ke$ha - altho there are others who do similar. But I heard a leaked audio of Ke$ha pre-enhancement and it was quite possibly the worst sound I'd ever heard. I mean seriously - not even CLOSE to singing. So I pick her because she is the most definitely totally unable to sing "singer" I know of. But she's just an example.

  • The lyrics are also cited as reflecting Bowie's concerns with splintered or multiple personalities, and are believed to have been partially inspired by the poem "Antigonish" by William Hughes Mearns:

“ Last night I saw upon the stair

A little man who wasn’t there

    He wasn’t there again today

    Oh, how I wish he’d go away…”

  • @Hacker73 LOL I knew a version of that when I was growing up but I had no idea it came from a poem. I must look that up!

  • @halag

Autotune was released in 1997 therefore this song was released in 1999.

  • @skillsz0rs ur dumb, this song is older than that

  • @coolkidken23

I know that, I should have said this REMASTER of the song was released in 1999.

  • @coolkidken23 1970

  • @skillsz0rs LOL.. Then when Nirvana covered, in 1994, this song wasn't released..? Nice fail bro.

  • @LegendaryTheReverend

Shut the fuck up. This is a remastered version, if you hadn't heard that yet.

  • @skillsz0rs Sorry mad boy ;)

  • I mean I'm broadcast major and I've seen how crudely they used to do it. They overdubbed. and when they had to splice the music, they would actually cut those magnetic tapes with razor and then connect them together using adhesive tape. Which is why when I hear old songs like these with complex arrangements I just go WOW.

  • It amuses me how many criticize the original because it sounds digitally altered. David wrote, produced and sang this around 1970 when the concept of digitally altering music was nigh well impossible. And in order to do that multiple track sound (David's voice with different tunes coming together to create harmony), they had to record it separately then bring it together. (look up how Queen did Bohemian Rhapsody) It's super awesome! People should be glad it sounds digital! It's revolutionary!

  • Beyond this, the episode is unexplained: as James E. Perone wrote,

Bowie encounters the title character, but it is not clear just what the phrase means, or exactly who this man is. … The main thing that the song does is to paint — however elusively — the title character as another example of the societal outcasts who populate the album.

In common with a number of tracks on the album, the song's themes have been compared to the horror-fantasy works of H. P. Lovecraft.

  • i like the use of sudden minor to major switchs in this song

  • Okay before anybody starts any shit I like both versions infact Nirvana is my favorite band of all time but does that mean i'm going to shit on Bowie and say the original vesion of the song sucks? Hell no. Bowie is a genius and Nirvana was right to pay tribute now quit arguin over who's version is better.

  • both are great!

  • How much did he get for selling it and where did he live afterwards? :o :p

    Great song! :)

  • Love it.

  • i have always loved nirvana's version, but the original is unmatched!

  • @amimanojit same

  • Bowie beats Nirvana by a mile....he will always be a magical performer and songwriter....Nirvana will be forgotten .....

How can you ever beat the original

  • @robinaus1 Hey man come on. Nirvana did a good cover and all the kids from the 90's still dont know that its a cover from him. Nirvana has some really good song to there name and also David. Yes David is awesome but Kurt was felt by more people in 90's. So in a way his showing people some new music dude. but if you say so i respect what you have to say.

  • Bowie beats Nirvana by a mile....he will always be a magical performer and songwriter....Nirvana will be forgotten .....

  • @robinaus1 Considering Nirvana is acknowledged as one of the best bands of all time and David Bowie can't even break onto a VH1 Top 100 List...it's pretty obvious you're wrong. Kurt Cobain spoke for a generation. David Bowie is just a pretty good musician.

  • @pfrazier3 do you really think that vh1 list is something that you should take seriously?

  • @joemrda84 That is the point: David Bowie can't even get recognition from a outfit that privileges garbage. If Prince is VH1s #7 greatest artist of all time and David Bowie isn't even mentioned...that speaks volumes about how insignificant David Bowie really is.

  • @pfrazier3 We're really going to quote all time lists from VH1?

  • @pfrazier3 it means that they privilege commercial stuff, not quality..

  • @pfrazier3 David Bowie is so much better than Nirvana! Without Bowie, Nirvana probably would've never existed. The entire course of musical history would've been changed forever.

  • @MrPeguin666 Without Nirvana no one would even know this song. When the highlight of your professional career is an appearance in Labyrinth I think it is safe to say that Kurt Cobain is by far a better musician than you are...it really isn't even a discussion...

  • @pfrazier3 Sorry buddy - Huge Nirvana fan here but I'm not sure there is another artist out there that has had such a profound impact on modern music as Bowie has. Possibly the Beatles but that is another argument.

  • The song's title is similar to that of Robert A. Heinlein's 1949 science fiction novella "The Man Who Sold the Moon", with which Bowie was familiar. However, the song has no similarities with the story of the book. The persona in the song has an encounter with a kind of doppelgänger, as is suggested in the second chorus where "I never lost control" is replaced with "We never lost control".

  • @pfrazier3 ooh vh1. so prestigious

  • @Chacha5678 apparently sarcasm is lost upon you.

  • @pfrazier3 in soviet russia, you are lost upon sarcasm

  • aaaaahh...

  • Bowie is cool and so was Cobain...take it easy guys

  • I just dont understand how people can prefer that suicidal druggies cover over Bowies.

  • @Atamv To be fair Bowie did his fair share of drugs in his day.

  • @hemonkey01 But kept being a human being.

  • Bowie is the KING!!!!

  • @MrIskate101 This is the original u dumb ignorant twat...piss off asshiole...

  • @MrIskate101 This actually is the original dude......

  • @MrIskate101 Thanks for trolling, but take it some where else.

  • fantastic song. and stop letting him troll you people.

  • If you think this is Nirvana's, you are a retard

  • And you are an original "GAY" what are you 12?.... shut the fuck up and read a book, maybe learn to write cursive you little puke.....nuff said...god save us all...you pukes are the end of us all

  • @WarrenPeece no im 14

  • @MrIskate101 i can sense u must be between 12-15 .... no idea of anything hun ...whos david bowie or nirvana .... im pretty sure u think nirvana is still a band right? dont use internet just to bother or watch XXX , read , learn before to talk . Kids that have no clue piss me off ...Im a lucky girl who could go to Nirvana's concerts ...being underage ...with the time i found my style .... But i understand maybe ur brain is burnt with all the crap music nowadays

  • @MrIskate101 This is the Original dumb fuck

  • @MrIskate101 Your father is the gay version of you.

  • @MrIskate101 Bowie=Owner Nirvanas= Cover meaning not original

  • @MrIskate101 you are gay

u didn't know nothing about music dumbass

    Fuck You
