Gearscore is just stupid. It's part of the reason I quit WoW. It's a game with a bunch of whiners. All they do is whine about your gearscore, that you're a noob, that you do less DPS. But not only that! I'm so sick of those players showing off their high gear score, that they're not a noob and they do wicked damage.
Nobody gives a shit. All I care about is having fun and not dying and not dying takes skill, but because more and more people are giving a shit, it ruins the whole "fun" aspect.
I couldnt tell from the video, but I know I dont spend the money to enchant my gear until its 251+. (Unless I have a ridiculous amount of gold) Once again, gear does not mean skill, apparently it cannot be emphasized enough. I know quite a few people that are "lacking" and outdps others who have substancialy better gear. I do understand that the video is critical to make a point about the addon, just seems like you actually believe just because someone doesnt enchant a chest piece they are fail.
@wkm311 I have to agree, but if you have high DPS/Heals etc without enchants, just think what you would do with them! Lots of guilds demand that you have all your gear gemmed and ench so you are pushing as much as you can
I'm probably one of the few who found this video pretty amusing. Good job on describing how to use this addon. I always found it useful, in improving my characters.
Well, sometimes its good not to be a pure because pures arent the best & with my ret pally i have glyphs that boost my healing abilities so the (usually) lazy healers dont have to worry about me a ton & im not a "flat" fighter.
This is why the addon will NEVER tell you which gems/glyphs/enchants are appropriate. Instead that should be left up to the user. We will however report if gems or enchants are missing, as there is no benifit to not enhancing your gear.

I liked this addon before last patch, but i don't like it anymore. Before that patch it counted GS of everyone i looked even if they just ran past me, now it shows ppls GS only if i have been in the same group with him/her many hours. Another thing is that inspecting thing doesn't work at all. Allways when i try to use it, it just give's that cha's picture without clothes. Even if i try it many times, the result is the same. Only thing that works now is counting my own GS.
First let me say i do really like your addon however i must say that in my opinion althou you do make good points on lack of gems and chants also remember that alot of people like to have a little personal flaver to there toons and "properly" chanted and gemming items are good but if all of us done it then you got nothing but bland carbon copies of each other. i have a dk that althou i know i should have mostly str ems i threw in some crit strike just for the hell of it does that make me a bad?
Personally, i love this addon because i can respect the fact that it is a tool, nothing more, nothing less. It is great in that it shows the potential of a given person, but it is the stupid and lazy that have turned this into one of the most hated addons in the game by setting a stupidly high bar for raids.
The addon is in itself a good 'Tool' to help to determine if someone has the gear to do some raid content, like normal / heroic or achievements in it. However, the addon is currently used by tards, who decide you need heavy gearscore enter somewhere. The addon is being abused by tards just like how achievements are. You might be a great player, better then half of the others in the raid who gotten stuff by being boosted, but will never have a chance due them. Just make your own raid tbh.

Most PUG raid leaders just ask for GS because they don't have the 2 minutes to inspect someone meaning they don't either care or are lazy to check if the person's gear is gemmed/enchanted/appropriate for the class and this is exactly what gearscore has done.
This addon only good for an approximately judgment of how your gear-totals are, nothing more. To judge a player based on gs is moronic at best, and yeah, the narrator sound like an arrogant elitist prick. Did the "i'm only joking" thing after he got all the negative comments here. Sorry, not buying it. This addon fucked the game up for alot of people and should've stayed dead after 4.0.

I like the add-on, but the elitist tone of your assessments here leave much to be desired. Not everyone has the funds or access to the gear or encs/gems, no matter what level they are. That's part of the challenge of the game. I plan to use GS not as a tool for hating on or marginalizing other players, but for optimizing my characters' potentials. That's the approach and attitude you should take with your add-on presentation.

You never know who is doing PvP or not, and you don't always have the choice of getting gear without Resilience.

When i cursor over an item I just received from a drop or quest, GS will say it is better Then what I have on and it is wrong. Exp. 64 ferral Druid, leg gs155 + srt. + Agl. + Sta. gear picks up a GS 170 but it is all intel or Spirt. but gs says it is better but quite wrong for ferral spk.
gearscore is good ffs, it's only crappy players that cant stand gs cause they cant get better gear. as soon as low gs people get high gs they start acting arogant, so don't complain, cause most people would do the same. also if you want to run ICC then JOIN A GUILD thats how most people do it.

The only people that complain about GS are people with shitty gear. As for running lower raids with a gs requirement, I'm all for it. I really don't like wiping on the first boss in ToC 10 because I'm in a raid full of people in greens and blues. Sure, the knowledge of the fights help, but what's the good in that if you're only pulling 1k dps?

I don't see how the fault lies with the add-on and not the jerks who misuse it. I think it's handy having a gauge to show YOURSELF where you're lacking and better know where you can improve. Just talk it over with your guildmates or try and reason with a PUG leader - I've been in some nasty PUGs for high level raids and it's only fair to want to cherry pick the best for Ruby Sanctum when you have 100 people PMing you for invites. My mom is a casual raider and she likes this add-on.

I like the people commenting that this add-on has created an elitist community. You really think people asking for gearscore numbers are knowledgeable enough about game mechanics (primarily class gearing) to warrant an elitist attitude? I like GS because it lets me know which pugs to avoid on my alts or which new guild app I don't even have to bother opening.
While I hate people looking for pugs and saying "what's your GS", if you use the addon like its meant, you can tell quite a bit about the player by their stat choices. PvP gear is the first obvious, how much hit do they have, hunters with strength, rogues/warriors w/int/str, etc. Just the number though? Worthless.
I seriously do not understand why people are chastising the author of Gear Score. He is not the one making it mandatory to go into a raid. Yes there are some elitist folks out there, but honestly I do not know the author and could not comment. The author does not get paid for making this AddOn, though some probably do donate, so I really do not understand the hostility directed at him.
I would agree that gear score has definitely hurt the raiding community in WoW overall, but I don't think it's the add on author's fault. It's a good tool, people just abuse it. If someone doesn't have their gear enchanted and doesn't have a good raiding spec, then obviously they shouldn't raid. However, a lot of people have taken it too far and don't allow people in ICC pugs unless they outgear the content, which frankly is stupid.
the only thing i disagree with now is that everyone knows about not having enchants which isnt to good because some people simply might just struggle for gold

due to your addon i will never run ICC and whenever i want to run any raid they say i need enchants. well theres a problem i don't have enough money for enchants and i cant farm for recipe item b/c i have black smiting and nothing else. the other way to get better gear score i could take would be to run ICC and get frost mark ,well, i cant get into icc so i have to run a random dungeon every day for 5 motns >:(

Even without gearscore you wouldn't be allowed into a pug with unenchanted gear.
Go farm Triumphs for T9 gear, farm random dungeons including FoS,PoS,HoR and your gear will be good enough -- buy enchanting materials for the gold you make.
While i admit that gearscore has definitely had negative effects, you are exactly the kind of person it was meant to prevent from plaguing groups, and you shouldn't get into icc. Can't afford enchants? Spend 20 minutes doing dailies. Can't craft items? Maybe you should get a second profession, maybe mining, seeing as your first is blacksmithing. You do nothing to improve yourself, and blame gearscore.

Arcanite...this is pathetic. You're not even showing HOW to use it and what to do should you come across a problem while trying to use it. All you're doing is highly criticizing other players and not focusing on the step-by-step of how to do each thing in GS. I can't even bring up GS when in WoW.
GS is an addon that started off as a helpful tool. Now the wanna be illetists and ones who dont want a challange use GS. As this vid shows alot of peeps will use this tool to know what items and gems a player has. What I have done is get my 80 mage into an ICC run then would let my 6 year old take over. They wanted a good gs, gemmed items, enchanted items, when there is absolutly no skill. Anyone can buy a lvl 80 off of e-bay and pass GS with no skill! I avoid them as much as possible.
It claimed my Paladin tank was under the def cap, yet with the gems and enchants it put it well over the def cap, therefore taking the word of this addon is very misleading. It also encourages people to improve their GS instead of actually improving their gear. My same Pala could equip higher gear giving a higher GS, if I did that he would've been well under the def cap. As a tank that's unacceptable. Idiots use this addon to judge people.
Anyone asking for GS to raid I avoid like the plague.

People say stop being so critical and gripe. But if I can find people with 6k-6.5k gs that are gemmed and ehcanted to fill my raid why not. If I just assume that everyone that I dont know sucks and will auto attack the better geared person is going to still do more. it's PRESICELY because of this addon that it IS hard to get good gear, let's put it like this: the highest gearscore you can get with ZERO raiding, only heroics is 5k, at most, by getting the best drops from the 5mans and having the highest gear badges can buy.
once at 5k, it's now almost imposible to get better because idiots demand 5.6k GS for EVERY SINGLE RAID.
Blame the idot, not the addon. No one in their right mind would require 5600 gs for ToC25 (example).
I personally think that GS is a fine addon because it shows people's gear level. The problem is that there are some people who think that people's gear level also equals their dps / awareness, which is sad.

I liked this addon before last patch, but i don't like it anymore. Before that patch it counted GS of everyone i looked even if they just ran past me, now it shows ppls GS only if i have been in the same group with him/her many hours. Another thing is that inspecting thing doesn't work at all. Allways when i try to use it, it just give's that cha's picture without clothes. Even if i try it many times, the result is the same. Only thing that works now is counting my own GS.

First let me say i do really like your addon however i must say that in my opinion althou you do make good points on lack of gems and chants also remember that alot of people like to have a little personal flaver to there toons and "properly" chanted and gemming items are good but if all of us done it then you got nothing but bland carbon copies of each other. i have a dk that althou i know i should have mostly str ems i threw in some crit strike just for the hell of it does that make me a bad?

Personally, i love this addon because i can respect the fact that it is a tool, nothing more, nothing less. It is great in that it shows the potential of a given person, but it is the stupid and lazy that have turned this into one of the most hated addons in the game by setting a stupidly high bar for raids.

The addon is in itself a good 'Tool' to help to determine if someone has the gear to do some raid content, like normal / heroic or achievements in it. However, the addon is currently used by tards, who decide you need heavy gearscore enter somewhere. The addon is being abused by tards just like how achievements are. You might be a great player, better then half of the others in the raid who gotten stuff by being boosted, but will never have a chance due them. Just make your own raid tbh.

I'm in a raiding guild where the majority of players are 30+, and have families, etc etc. The effort needed to get gear enough to get into raiding is so miniscule today that complaining about it either makes you ignorant or a pathetic player. @rajinparanoia I know a lot of people in game that have high GS that hate this addon as much as those that have lower GS. Why? Because it has destroyed the WoW community even more than it was before. WoW has the worst community in gaming, and this addon is, in part, responsible for that. It encourages people to associate with only those that, essentially, have no life outside of WoW. I saw many ppl with lower GS to make bigger numbers in DPS than ppl with higher GS. But thanks to this addon many stupid ppl think that GS is ALL. I like the add-on, but the elitist tone of your assessments here leave much to be desired. Not everyone has the funds or access to the gear or encs/gems, no matter what level they are. That's part of the challenge of the game. I plan to use GS not as a tool for hating on or marginalizing other players, but for optimizing my characters' potentials. That's the approach and attitude you should take with your add-on presentation.

@Mirrikat45 I must have missed that part. The volume is a bit low. Nonetheless, I am enjoying the add-on, even though the patch(es) have rendered it a bit inconsistent. I can only get about three good scans in before it peters out, especially in dungeon instances.

When i cursor over an item I just received from a drop or quest, GS will say it is better Then what I have on and it is wrong. Exp. 64 ferral Druid, leg gs155 + srt. + Agl. + Sta. gear picks up a GS 170 but it is all intel or Spirt. but gs says it is better but quite wrong for ferral spk.

The only people that complain about GS are people with shitty gear. As for running lower raids with a gs requirement, I'm all for it. I really don't like wiping on the first boss in ToC 10 because I'm in a raid full of people in greens and blues. Sure, the knowledge of the fights help, but what's the good in that if you're only pulling 1k dps?

I don't see how the fault lies with the add-on and not the jerks who misuse it. I think it's handy having a gauge to show YOURSELF where you're lacking and better know where you can improve. Just talk it over with your guildmates or try and reason with a PUG leader - I've been in some nasty PUGs for high level raids and it's only fair to want to cherry pick the best for Ruby Sanctum when you have 100 people PMing you for invites. My mom is a casual raider and she likes this add-on.

While I hate people looking for pugs and saying "what's your GS", if you use the addon like its meant, you can tell quite a bit about the player by their stat choices. PvP gear is the first obvious, how much hit do they have, hunters with strength, rogues/warriors w/int/str, etc. Just the number though? Worthless.

Yes there are some elitist folks out there, but honestly I do not know the author and could not comment. I would agree that gear score has definitely hurt the raiding community in WoW overall, but I don't think it's the add on author's fault. It's a good tool, people just abuse it. If someone doesn't have their gear enchanted and doesn't have a good raiding spec, then obviously they shouldn't raid. However, a lot of people have taken it too far and don't allow people in ICC pugs unless they outgear the content, which frankly is stupid.

due to your addon i will never run ICC and whenever i want to run any raid they say i need enchants. well theres a problem i don't have enough money for enchants and i cant farm for recipe item b/c i have black smiting and nothing else. the other way to get better gear score i could take would be to run ICC and get frost mark ,well, i cant get into icc so i have to run a random dungeon every day for 5 motns >:(

Go learn another proffesion, run heroics and you get paid gold plenty and can sell shards / Frozen Orbs for gold, you can run daily quests to get alot of gold. There are lots of things you can do to buy enchants. Join a guild? Most guilds are happy to enchant for free from guild bank. Stop being lazy and blaming and GearScore.

Even without gearscore you wouldn't be allowed into a pug with unenchanted gear.
Go farm Triumphs for T9 gear, farm random dungeons including FoS,PoS,HoR and your gear will be good enough -- buy enchanting materials for the gold you make.

While i admit that gearscore has definitely had negative effects, you are exactly the kind of person it was meant to prevent from plaguing groups, and you shouldn't get into icc. Can't afford enchants? Spend 20 minutes doing dailies. Can't craft items? Maybe you should get a second profession, maybe mining, seeing as your first is blacksmithing. You do nothing to improve yourself, and blame gearscore.

GS is an addon that started off as a helpful tool. Now the wanna be illetists and ones who dont want a challange use GS. As this vid shows alot of peeps will use this tool to know what items and gems a player has. What I have done is get my 80 mage into an ICC run then would let my 6 year old take over. They wanted a good gs, gemmed items, enchanted items, when there is absolutly no skill. Anyone can buy a lvl 80 off of e-bay and pass GS with no skill! I avoid them as much as possible.

It claimed my Paladin tank was under the def cap, yet with the gems and enchants it put it well over the def cap, therefore taking the word of this addon is very misleading. It also encourages people to improve their GS instead of actually improving their gear. My same Pala could equip higher gear giving a higher GS, if I did that he would've been well under the def cap. As a tank that's unacceptable. Idiots use this addon to judge people.

to be honest i play wow and yet i know im not a high level i dont really care what this gearscore thing is :L and that the people who do use gearscore and judge people on it take the game way too seriously. so to me i probably will not use gear score, hell iv had the game for 2 weeks and i may just stop playing it after the one month free that i have xD even though wow is more user friendly and a better game i think FFXI had a more appealing social concept to it but that's just my thoughts

Gearscore is one of the worst addons every to come to wow. Everyone now asks for the stupid thing, and noone wants to have a challenge anymore. And people are asking for it for lower raids now as well. They want you to have all the gear before a raid that you can only get from a raid. Worst addon ever.

@MissionaryMan It not only just shows the GS, it shows there enchants and gems/experience they have had before, no one wants a fail group, if you are bad just make friends and have them help you out.

@xJamo33 My gear isnt bad, i went in groups that actually worked to get where were are instead of piggy backing of other people with high gear. And gs doesnt show experience in the slighest. It shows the level of gear you have thats all. It doesnt show skill.

People say stop being so critical and gripe. But if I can find people with 6k-6.5k gs that are gemmed and ehcanted to fill my raid why not. If I just assume that everyone that I dont know sucks and will auto attack the better geared person is going to still do more. Point is people ask for high gearscores achievements and proper chants cause they can get people that arnt noob with no gems chants or achievments.

I don't get why people hate this addon so much. If your gear isn't good enough, get better, it's not hard. Guess some people think that they can just skip the gearing up process and jump directly into ICC.

it's PRESICELY because of this addon that it IS hard to get good gear, let's put it like this: the highest gearscore you can get with ZERO raiding, only heroics is 5k, at most, by getting the best drops from the 5mans and having the highest gear badges can buy.
once at 5k, it's now almost imposible to get better because idiots demand 5.6k GS for EVERY SINGLE RAID.
when in reality 5k is more than enough for ICC.

Blame the idot, not the addon. No one in their right mind would require 5600 gs for ToC25 (example).
I personally think that GS is a fine addon because it shows people's gear level. The problem is that there are some people who think that people's gear level also equals their dps / awareness, which is sad.
(what I meant in the line / comment you quoted is that you can't expect to join any raids if you have less than 5k gs. I see 4,6k people whining about not being able to join icc).

before Gearscore, people used websites like wow-heroes to measure a player's gear, and wow-heroes does something that gearscore doesn't (and SHOULD do)
it tells you wich raids you are suficiently geared to go ,and wich ones u arent.
if GS did that, then the idiots would have no excuse to turn down players.
