  • Jump it from the front so if you miss you're still impeding his forward progress.

  • this kid looks so un-athletic haha

  • Dont go underneath!!! If the qb is smart its a td for sure...

  • the 2008 lions probably watched this video before their 0-16 season, this guy is WRONG

  • dont listen to this guy

  • thiss is totally wrrrrrooong goin under the reciever will f you up i run a 4 and even i no its dificicult caz even if yor quick he could release up the field or do sum to f you up

  • well where im form my coach told us to jump the slant in front of him for the pick not go behind him thats gone get you burned!!

  • A. Why is that players hands rolled up into his shirt? B. Was that impression of jumping that route serious? C. The point on inside technique is that the guy DOESNT run a slant.

I seriously hope this guy isn't getting paid to make those or even worse coaching a defense like this.

  • dude ur players suck

  • nnamdi asomugha said break under with upfeild hand keep your back field hand on him so u can make the tackle if you cant swat it

  • Geo10, hahaha right. Maybe he can get a job as a specialty coach that they bring in for that exact purpose you gave. Again, what an idiot. Do NOT listen to this guy.

  • Yeaaaahh....how about fake the slant and then run a vertical (go) ???...wide open,..TD....its amazing how many stupid coaches there are...lol....

  • This could be the worst coaching I have ever seen. NEVER JUMP inside guessing its a slant and NEVER cut underneath the route unless you are trying to give up a touchdown.

  • @falconsfootball28 lmao "unless you are trying to give up a touchdown" I can picture this idiot coach now, "ok guys we are up by 13 points, we have to let them score a TD here, lets all jump the recievers first move!"

  • you dont let the WR behind you or outside of you, do that and you will be ok

  • lol 1:24 random car in the background

  • IF YOU HAVE THE FOOTWORK THEN YU CAN GO UNDERNEATH BUT YEAH NOT THAT GOOD OF AN IDEA..BEST THING IS TO CHEAT INSIDE AND JUMP IT...ITS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO TOTALLY SHUT IT DOWN

  • never ever do this. The only time you go underneath is if your closing in on an interception.

  • youd have to have some proper pace wheels to go underneath, stay on top then fling your inside arm round the front of the receiver keeping him to the outside when the ball is thrown avoiding an interference, that way the receiver will have to dart back to get out of your grasp if he makes the catch which is pretty hard, so if you don;t swat you can easily wrap him up

  • Everybody dont listen to this guy, never go underneath the reciever. If the QB doesnt throw the ball you are beat. Instead of going underneath the reciever, attack his hips!! When playing cornerback, never look at the receivers face or shoulders, stare down their hips and when they break attack the hips. This coming from a sophmore in highschool.

  • sorry dude but 1:00 thats the wrong way he almost fell and you can get called for pass interference or the reciever could fake and fall you block the ball from the outside shoulder also if he even makes the catch you can stop it with your inside arm

  • @chessmapling

You don't move at all until the QB stops his dropback

If the QB does a 3 step dropback, stay in close coverage.

If the QB does a 5 step drop, stay close to medium (about 1-2 yards)

If he does a 7 step, immediately start backpedeling, because he's going deep

  • I never understood: when playing corner, are you supposed to look at the QB at all? or always keep your eyes on the receiver? From what i've heard, if you're playing deep and its man coverage, then you should just keep your eyes on the receiver and supposedly, the safety will watch the QB. but if you're playing zone, i heard you watch the QB

  • @Chessmapling Not sure about other schools, but on my team it's different. In zone, we look at the second receiver from the end. When he blocks, we run up to stop the ball carrier. When he runs past the defensive end for a pass, we drop back and cover the deepest receiver, while occasionally glancing at the QB to see if he throws . In man coverage, we simply look at the man right in front of us, and follow him no matter what. Neither is mainly about looking at QB.

  • @VideoHunter13 but if u keep watching the receiver, how do u know when the ball is coming to him? and even if u do, how can u deflect it or intercept it?

  • @Chessmapling In man to man, you have to focus on being shoulder to shoulder with him. The moment you see him look up for the ball, you turn around and attempt to intercept/deflect it. If not, you're still very close to him and can secure a tackle.

  • easiest way to play corner.... start 3 yeards inside and back peddle diagonaly. that way if its a slant your already in between him and the qb, and if its not. by the time he breaks the route you'll be in position

  • in a off position...how about reading the QB's 3 step drop. that is the drop that mostly all QB's take to throw the slant. the coach rattled off a lot a of useless jiberish! in press....a wr should never be able to catch a slant because a cb should be taking the inside position away by his alignment.

  • that guy dosnt even have on cleates

  • i love running this because on the actual route they think its on a run and on a run away from the side im on i usually crack on the outside linebacker. :P

  • first try to block if not get in front of him when he does the slant

  • wtf the fuck does a half back do then i thought they back peddle 3 yards then either turn on 92 degrees either to the left or the right depending on the running back or some thing like that. i m corner back

  • you NEVER go underneath the reciever when playing cornerback. If you do you can get burned easily if the QB is smart

  • @andre101dreman yes that is true because as soonas you go behind him the qb could make an easy pass to the receiver

  • @andre101dreman ya dude expert village is retarded

  • @andre101dreman i think he meant do that after the ball is thrown

  • @andre101dreman /watch?v=PdtK0zDY5_w&feature=related seriously this fella is a coach for a reason and i doubt u no more about playing corner back than nnamdi asomugha if your a good cornerback you can do it

  • id rather just earhole him when he commits to the ball

  • i agree i dont like hes ideas...even if it works once, wats the reciver gunna do next time, go in for the slant or other short route, wait for u to jump and then run a go...TD. i say give him the 3 yds but make him pay for it. or if its goaline, press coverage.

  • you can tell the guy in pads doesnt want to be there

  • yea they might work 1 out of 100 times.

if u miss the ball your fucked and you dont even have ur other arm to at least try and make a play. and no reciever is gunna run a slant that slow and shitty so u wouldnt have time to cut behind and unerneath the reciever

  • well corners dont always play press coverage... and you cant know when the slant is coming so saying you should defend it from inside is implying you already know the route..and the receiver doesnt even run a f-ing slant... that just pisses me off how retarted this looks.. and never undercut a route like he just did.. itll never work

  • yea you dont want to defend the slant from the outside, that isnt very bright at all, i like to jam them on everyplay but you have to be fast to do that

  • DO NOT play the slant from outside in.

He actually suggests a suicide play!

Let him have 3 yds and drop him there.

  • I agree with you 100%. That is a dream situation for any QB.

  • LOL ALMOST HE TRIPPED 1:01

  • this guy is retarded

  • Run around the Reciever on a slant route 2 jump it? No thats wrong, with a quick slant that ball is coming out quickly u wont have time 2 run around the reciecer 2 jump the route. Your best bet would b to read/re-act and jump the slant route by going to where the ball would be goin not run around the receiver. If u miss jump it and that QB throws that slant your probably going to end up making that tackle anyway

  • Dude, that doesn't make any sense. If you jump a route, you're already out of position for the tackle. And since you weren't listening to the video, he says it's another possibility, not the only and not even the best way. He even says it's a tough way to defend it. Next time pay attention before criticizing someone.

  • couldnt u just play man coverage and knock him off his routes? u have 5 yards...

  • u do have 5 yards, but if you hit him after the ball is thrown its considered pass interference

  • but if your jamming him then the QB is gonna see that and hes not gonna be able to throw the ball to the reciever

  • yep, if your coach is smart he would put on man to man coverage in a short yard situation like this

  • This is for High school. Nothing but simple routes in high schools.... The post, short post, slant, hook, and the straight route. Best way to kinda stop a slant if you know its coming? Think about situation(3rd and 1) Press wr(Hard), kinda force him outside see if his weight shifts inside after that, plant feet, and cut inside as quick as u can. It's real complicated, u just gotta have a feel for the game, don't think as hard as the coaches want you to just gotta think quick and be sure of self...

  • FIRST OF ALL!!!, you cannot make videos on how to stop the slant route, or fly route, or out route because you do not know which route the guy's gonna run. It's not like you are in the huddle. SECOND, When your a DB you are always reacting to the receiver so the only videos worth watching would be a video on shading techniques or smoothe hip transition. If you know you have safety help then you CAN jump routes. THIRD, the videos that coach is making are teaching common mistakes u shouldn't do.

  • AGREED! Plus it all depends on the type of shade you're in. If you're running an outside shade, then you don't give a f*** about the quick slant because you're protecting deep and probably the linebacker is gonna pic him off. But... if you're running an inside shade then you're in great position anyway, it just calls on being athletic.

TIP FOR A CB: always be in a shade, it helps, if you think otherwise, reply.

  • What's a shade, do you mean litteraly or is it a trick?

  • u guys are stupid..wat the guy is saying is not dumb..if u try to jump it most likely the qb already threw the ball...also wen u jump underneath it you always wanna try to have a hand around the receiver outside shoulder so if he catches it you can tackle him..most likely you should neva go for the ic on a slant route unless for sure you are in position to catch the pick

ps: i play CB for mi varsity team

  • Your dumbass players will be in the local BURN UNIT if you do this shit. This is the third video that i have commented on with this moron. Jumping routes underneath...lol...what a fucktard coach.

  • ehh ya i c what ur saying..but depending on the quaterback, u can somtimes get a hand going underneath.

  • you never jump a route, thats an easy six bro, he prolly has never played CB b4 lol

  • yeh this guy is stupid....line up inside you get hooked and touchdown, you try and bite the route ill burn you cause thats one of my routes go like a slant three yards the break to a corner and im gone...best way to defend is jam him on the line and let a safety or linebacker int. while you make sure you aint get burned or miss a tackle

  • no.. i am, and btw going to be better than nnamdi, nnamdi looks up to me

  • @SDAMTM lol that's a good one

  • I love when kids run slants, that is the play I get the most ints on except maybe the deep fly's. I am fast so the best way for me is give him a little separation and then jump the pass when the qb thinks he has an opening

  • ehhh...easier said than done...if a corner tried to do that, i'd fake the shit out of him and come back and he'd get burned...if they're late in turning their hips, and even if they're on time, all the qb has to do is lead me a bit more and i got the pass...trying to go around takes too much time...I say bump in that situation if anything...

  • Or you could, y'know, bump him. Don't go round him, go through him.

  • bullshit lol. if you cut behind him he can easily cut up or back outside and easy yards. this guys a fucking idiot...
