  • For those of you who love the cello and bass parts in this. By this time

Beethoven was almost completely deaf. If you think about listening to music in your car, loudly you can almost feel the bass in your chest. He uses it for key sections of this and other symphonies, especially the 9th, where those instruments introduce the theme that would become the Ode to Joy. Maybe he trusted them the most because he could feel them.

  • 0:19 - 0:32, love that Horn bit

  • I love the bass and cello solo when it switches into c major instead of minor at 1:43

  • whoa, why does it end so abruptly? it was like a slap to the face when i was waiting for the next part and it just stopped.

  • @Sofakingbeastn Simple, this is only the third movement and it runs right into the fourth movement without a pause. This is called an Attacca.

  • @scottdotjazzman ah that makes sense. thanks.

  • @Sofakingbeastn there is no pause between the 3rd and 4th movement. go listen to the 4th :]

  • HEY asshole Isnt this copyrighted!!!! You theif hope you burn in hell!!!!!!

  • @bassbass99able Haha this music went into public domain before you were born. The beauty of this music is that bastard record labels have no ability to copyright it. It's ours to enjoy no matter what. as to whether the recording is copyrighted who knows? The poster could have recorded it for all you know.

  • I bet the 2 dislikes was The OutThere Brothers

  • I actually appreciate this movement much better than the 1st, (not that it isn't as deserving of credit); it's just the1st has become sort of a cliche regarding Beethoven in popular culture, so much so that it loses its vibrancy and appeal - people seem to want the immediate, (being used to single short lived songs) and I hear the 1st movement being played far to much by itself; the whole symphony tells its own story, and this piece just adds that exceptional statement; a resurgence of courage.

  • SymmetryofIllusion message Continued - just to add, my comments here are probably cliche in and of themselves, talked into the ground no doubt, sorry, just wanted to add my thoughts.

  • The beginning of this movement is spooky. I LOVE IT!

  • there is a place where Beethoven, Bach, Hendrix ,Chopin, Jim Morison and Mozart talk about girls after smoking some marihuana with Marley and playing music together .

  • what orchestra is this?

  • @OSUSZANN Classical if im not mistaken. So 1st violins, 2nd violins, violas, cellos, double basses. 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 bassoons, 2 clarinets, 2 french horns, 2 trumpets and 2 timpanis.

  • The 5th Symphony is without question one of the best pieces of music ever written. Only challenged by the likes of Mozart's Requiem.

We should really be happy to have the privilege! to listen to this.

  • @DrownedAtLakeBodom wtf man! JUST DISLIKE AND ..MOVE ON..! no one is going to thank you for trolling comments under a beethoven video. especially when they're written by a thirteen year old.

  • 1:44 is GODLIKE

Who dares to say that beethoven wasnt the best composer ever?

  • Just saw the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra perform this beautifully. Feels awesome to listen to it on YouTube.

  • Yeah, guys, please, anyone who knows what orchestra it is, please, tell us. Is this Karojan by any chance?

  • which orchestra is this?

  • Some videos should be void of a dislike button, this is one of those videos...

  • toco el cielo y mi alma con su musica, me siento viva

  • He wrote the 6th while being deaf. This proves he was a god.

  • @zjbeast I would say that he created god lol. His Missa Solemniss proves that

  • Nonononono. why are none of these better than Karajans?? sorry very opinionated but his recording makes me CRAZY thes all seem so soft.

  • I love how the blazing crescendo leads directly into the fourth movement without a rest!!! 4:40 ... suspense ... anticipation ... then... silence ("clicks Beethoven -5th Symphony, 4th movement: Allegro;...") BOOOOM!!!

  • @ClassicalArchives

I sent a message to your inbox. Please read. :)

  • i have a question for anyone. what is a movement in music???

  • @hipepleful It's a part of a musical composition that have an individual structure. Symphonies are made up of several such parts.

  • @Kronstadtsuperior so ode to joy in his ninth symphony was a movement and thanks for telling me.

  • classical music is only good for educational purposes and should not even attempt to be used to actually relax the brain. For every Beethoven there has to be a pop singer or rapper to even out music as a whole.

  • @hellerange That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

  • @hellerange 0/10

    Bad troll is bad.

  • @hellerange speak for yourself

  • i looked at the dislikes and realized that two people were smoking loads of dope

  • @DrownedAtLakeBodom Why'd you just post your opinion then? douche.

  • Love Ludwig von Beethoven to death...in my opinion, he alone is the most powerful, beautiful of composers of all times though he's in heaven for a couple of centuries; this is a fav part of no. 5, a dream come true!! The orchestra with its bass, cellos & violins & other strings & wind instruments is extremely compelling...Bravo!!

  • 01:43 - godlike.

  • @Stalin111 I´ve just said the same lol

  • @Adri58 That propably supports the Idea. :D

  • BY FAR MY FAVOURITE MOVEMENT !!! :) i played the timp at the end as an intro for the last movemnt. I'd never played in a symph. orch b4 and i can't descRibe how much I loved this piece :D

  • BY FAR MY FAVOURITE MOVEMENT !!! :) i played the timp at the end as an intro for the last movemnt. I'd never played in a symph. orch b4 and i can't descibe how much I loved this piece :D

  • Anyone heard this performed live? If you do (and it's a good, large orchestra) you will literally get blasted out of your seat in the front row. If you are a fan of the fifth symphony, seeing it live is SO much better than YouTube. But, thank you to the uploader. It's not his fault the entire experience can't be captured with a recording.

  • I am a cellist, and this is my favorite movement, so haunting and emotional, and so fun to play! : D

  • You say lady gaga, i say Mozart

You say hannah montana, i say Beethoven

You say owl city, i say Bach

You say jonas brothers i say The Vivaldi

You say justin bieber i say Sibelius

95% of people! these days listen to the same crappy pop songs over and over. if your one of the 5% left who still listen to real music, thunb this up, then copy and paste it to t least 5 video's. Dont let the spirit of old music die!

I copied this from this other guy do the same!

  • @Bl00DN00B those songs are good too. This just took more talent :)

  • @Bl00DN00B stfu please

  • @Amarelaoo1 Shut up noob! Nobody asked for your comment!

  • @Amarelaoo1 did you copy and paste that too? good boy.

  • fuck yea. this shit is metal

  • @SelfRevolution37 How can shit be made of metal?

  • @Bl00DN00B ...it means he really liked it !!!!

  • @thedeadbeatdsg Well he can like it. But I adore it!!!!! :D

  • Is this performance conducted by Charles Mackerras?

  • Comment removed

  • @severian213 I believe this is David Zinman conducting the Tonhalle Orchestra of Zurich

  • I love when fate knocks at the beginning and then he adds the sort of defiant few notes, like he's saying NO! I will keep composing, deafness holds no bonds over me! Words cannot do justice however...

  • Compare the cadences at the beginning with v=0ajw8J1vR1w&t=1m15s (Stamitz). Both are followed by repeated Gs, too. Interesting ...

  • Howards End, of E.M. Forster... ah the battle of life... and Helenna Bonham Carter, she is give life in her play to Helen the minor sister of Margaret (Emma Thompson)

  • Thank you for posting this! one of the best classical pieces of all time!

  • One of the best bass parts.

  • If you see this performed live, especially in the front row, you will get blasted out of you chair. It is ten times more spectacular live.

  • this is soooooooooooooooooooo awesome!!!!!!!!

  • I had never listened the third movment. This is my first time and it´s like if I allready wuold listened it, because all Beethoven´s music is so great, energic and powerful. His music will never die like Mozart or Bach. In 200 years more up to here modern music wont be listened, but classical music will 'cause this are inmortal melodies writen by inmortal composers!

  • @mathiasalex69 I've got to agree with you, Just look for example at Britney Spears. She was a star at her time, yet now she isin't even mentioned. Good music will always stay and keep being heard. The other "Noise" is what monkeys throw at you when they get angry.

  • @Bl00DN00B Britny Spears will be long forgotten in about 20 years..

  • @mathiasalex69 except bach wasn't really classical era.

  • @ACEntertatinment Well barroque, but his music is still so complex like his art of the fudge

  • @mathiasalex69 immortal not inmortal

  • There are people we will forget: AC/DC. Who? John Makov. Huh?

And then there are people who will never be forgotten: Plato, Aristotle, Nietzsche, Mozart and Beethoven.

And then there are people who fuck with time and cannot be forgotten because they slip in and out of existence: The Doctor

  • @TheEvilEmporerBunny Who the fuck is nietzsche

  • @ChaozMKW Friedrich Nietsche: Geman philosopher/author

  • @TheEvilEmporerBunny Love your comment, but you left out my favorite greatest mind of all time..... Leonardo da Vinci!! The ultimate polymath. When you wikipedia his name, the first paragraph is hilarious. It lists about 9 different professions that he was an expert and lead thinker in...

  • the rest of the symphony is so overlooked...but its just so amazing! I just adore the theme in this movement, its so grand and beautiful!

  • @Snezhinka9 I think the 1st movement the one overlooked. The rest are great

  • thank you so much for posting this. Can anyone provide a listening outline for inexperienced listeners like myself..

  • omg i am performing this in a week!! im so excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i mean how cool is it to play the full fifth symphony!!!!!!!!!! BEETHOVEN I LOVE U AND U R GOING TO LIVE ON FOREVER

  • the person who hit dislike does not have many friends

  • Thanks for making the world a more beautiful place Ludwig!

  • the connection between the 3rd and 4th movement was also allegedly called "the joke" since it did not adhere to the premeire audience's expectation of a usual symphonic form within the classical era, though Beethoven would be more often viewed as a transitional figure from classical to romantic period for unconventional means making him a musical revolutionary that carried predecesors such as Bach and Handel, and contemporaries, such as Mozart and Haydn, towards the next century or great music

  • Thanks, Cloud

  • I wonder what would have happened of all the famous composers, like Mozart, Hayden, Beethoven, Chopin, Schubert, Berlioz, etc. got together and discused music?

  • @Nintonic33 Too much awesome to be kept together. The world would have imploded

  • @Nintonic33 Imagine a grand classical hall, they come up with a symphony, beethoven doesnt reeally say much at first, then mozart comes with a theme, while beethoven watches, after a while, beethoven is like WTF no, hell no! After the rough draft was made. The others had romantic styles, and mozart is like, what teh hell?

  • @ChaozMKW XD I can totally see that happening! Classical ideas and themes would probably not agree with the supernatural themes of the Romantic! And the Baroque composers would definitely not agree!

  • who was the idiot to dislike this...?

  • @desicoconutsoul The loser of the battle disliked this.

  • I love it! I LOVE IT!.......From Youtube I downloaded Movements 1, 2 and 4.....but even this one ends just before this movement is completed...I had to download the Toscanini...

    Have others found the same?

    :)

  • @outoftunefiddler xD In "technicality" the 3rd movement and the 4th movement are connected. The end of this movement is the start of the beginning of the 4th movement. SO basically, the 3rd and 4th movements are one song :D Understand?

  • Definitely think this movement is many times over looked! Having a scherzo in the middle of a symphonic work is wwhat makes Beethoven an innovator of his time. Pure Genius. thank you for sharing!

  • Can somebody tell me the orchestra playing this please :) Also the double basses playing this, I can't play this movement anywhere near that fast :L

  • I want to find that 1 person who he or she voted that they did not like this and lock them up in a room and force them to hear beethoven for aweek nonstop, vote me up if you're in.

  • @Alucardthedeadone ....and feed them steamed OKRA!!

  • i love 0:17-0:26 it sounds so beautiful. i hav been listeneing 2 his music for about 2 yrs now i have never seen his music this beautiful before. it is like i feel every single emotion he writes in his music how he feels every thing. he is like a friend 2 me

  • 0:25 - 0:32 sounds like four seasons of vivaldi i think

  • Phenomenal!

  • I think this is my favourite of all 4 parts, amazing melody!!

  • what's the song from the 'rejected' cartoons by don hertsfeldt

  • The more I learn about his music and the more I play it, I start to feel closer to him, you can feel the emotion he puts into his composition and it embeds itself into me, he's one of my best friends and he's been dead for over 200 years, yet his music still remains and touches peoples souls like my own.

  • @li0nsl0ver

His 200. Deathday will be 2027. Don't make him older as he is, if you like him :-)

  • @mistelir Haha, my apologies

  • @li0nsl0ver Wow! My feelings exactly!!

  • @li0nsl0ver Thats how i feel with Howie Mandel

  • @li0nsl0ver Totally agree with you there, when I play his sonata 'pathetique' i really feel his frustration and hope and anger and love towards life. he is such a complex character and to think that we can still get to know him through his music today, such is the miracle of music :)

  • @happyseadog23 The pathetique is an amazing piece, one of my favorites for sure, the first movement is full of just raw power and anger, and the second is gorgeous, so sweet and enticing, very much like a lullaby, the first two movements contrast eachother geniusly, very much creat a foil.

  • @li0nsl0ver :|

  • I love this movement, as well as the lead-in into the 4th. together I think they are even better than the first movement.

  • finally, someone who thinks the same

  • Comment removed

  • Agreed!

  • @Makenshi3 I fully agree! It's sooo much better than the 1st one!

  • @Makenshi3 of course

  • this is my favourite of all the movements, the first one is the most famous, but probably the most overrated, this one just feels good to play in

  • whom, may i ask, is performing?

  • hahahaha

  • what is the humor in that?

  • In that context, you use the word who, not whom.

  • hmmmmmm, well i was just trying to sound smart. and stupid people can't tell the difference, i guess i am......

  • lol you were pwned big time

  • pedantic much?

  • @sharpnova2 LOL

  • I hadeonly heard the first movment befor, but they athers are jeast as great.

  • I love the first movement but all of them are some of my all time favorite.

  • my opinion is that this is the most important movement of all 4 since it represents the victory of C major over c minor. Beethoven chose to win the battle with a joke. Lovely

  • @catheh06 I didn't realize it was a battle. Thanks for the insight!

  • My favourite movement, too bad it's the shortest of the four... oh well.

  • I agree, the french horn march is beautiful. I hum it whenever I feel important =X

  • This is a verry good movement. I especially like French Horns

  • Ahaha, I just love this movement! Love the joke he plays with the basses ;p Yeah, thanks for posting the entire symphony. We just got finished studying this piece of his in my music literature. There is so much more to it than what 'regular' people know :P Thanks again. =)

  • yeah actually the little scherzo is in fact a very simple fugue. Beethoven had difficulty carrying long fugues (unlike Bach) which is why he wasn't comfortable with human voice leading. Although in his defense he did amazing with Fidelio

  • Thanks for posting the entire symphony.

  • Thanks. It took me two days to upload.

  • @ClassicalArchives Shouldn't this be called the Scherzo instead of the allegro? Not being a smartass, just wanted to know.

  • @yougosquishnow While it is a Scherzo I think it's not usually included in the title more often people just say the speed. Not sure which is correct, just allegro, adagio, largo etc. are more common.

  • @dredeye Hey I just looked this up somewhere. I was a little confused because the 4th movement is the allegro as well. Turns out we were both right. The third is Scherzo: allegro, i guess to distinguish it from the fourth, otherwise, it would just have been referenced the way you said, by tempo. Thanks for that btw, I was unaware of that.

  • @ClassicalArchives why that long
