Do you get all your history info from movies? That was during the French and Indian War and the Mohicans were allied with the French. The British instigated the war. Most "Americans" (You probably don't realize that the USA didn't exist back then) didn't even want to fight in it. It's no surprise that you generalize all Americans based on a miniscule portion of the population, under the authority of the British Empire.
@Bill4Banco I understand that the US expertly and efficiently slaughters the native populations of any country where they stand in its way, including the natives of North America. Of course you could argue that this is simply the role of the Master Race and that the weak should be wiped from the face of the earth but I believe you'd run into trouble. The last person who tried that ended up blowing his brains out in a hole in the ground in the ruins of Berlin.
for a brilliant and clear-thinking guy, he is sure short-sighted and wrong about the so-called government of his country ... loving your country often means hating those holding the reins of power. To deny the reality of who filled out most of the very anti-American Bush Administration is kinda sad to see. But Hitch is bang on with so many other topics, politics ain't that important really.
@simonjeste "But Hitch is bang on with so many other topics, politics ain't that important really."
I think you have it completely backwards. Government and politics are the MOST important things. It's the "Atheism vs. Theism" debate that is pointless.
Hmm. Is interesting to hear Christopher speak so highly of Obama in this interview. Was just listening/watching his talk at the Freedom from Religion foundation from 2007 where he said these exact words: 'I would not have come to this gathering if I thought it was trying to elect a fool like Barack Obama to be the president of the United States.'
@alnot01 In the United States, college/university admissions are incredibly open, and federal and state aid for low income students is actually quite a bit higher than is generally suggested. A university education is attained by nearly a third of the population. I think the more appropriate term is the intelligent. To someone like Hitch, Palin is beyond the Pale because she is not intelligent.
@poolopis01 : Just what "university education" means runs all over the map. Most college degrees aren't worth much, because the students either lack ability or don't do much work.
The "aid" you talk about mainly takes the form of student loans.
I am not so sure that Palin is dumb. I think she's a populist who's become totally used to dealing with Alaska rednecks.
There is an Ivy League elite in the USA. Hitch is part of it; Palin is not.
He's a US Citizen because he realised there's a lot of people who believe anyone with a British accent knows what he's talking about. He can be more exceptional even when attacking the childish religious beliefs of US Christian fundamentalists.
He's also the typical Chickenhawk when young he hated war and now he calls for perpetual war now he's too old to fight.
@kybelian But is a war against intolerance and bigotry, really a war? Or is it merely the taking-back of the nation from the insane religious dolts that stole by force and lies in the first place?
In other words, is it really stealing if you're only stealing back what someone stole from you?
I have a great idea, why not give him a gun and send him to Afghanistan or Iraq? Or maybe he could lead the charge into Iran? Actually, having seen the wikileaks video of the murder of the journalists in Iraq, just give him a plane ticket and a mobile phone.
@colourmegone That's a completely unfair statement. No one here needs to question Christopher Hitchen's intellectual honesty and bravery. He's visited (as a journalist) a number of war-wridden countries and has been shot at on more than one occasion. He's also voluntarily been waterboarded and has been arrested for holding revolutionary meetings in foreign countries. He's a brave and honest man and should be commended as such.
@Jonmad17 I salute his intellectual honesty and courage but I criticise his inconsistency. Imo anyone who supports the war in Iraq is either a fool or a knave. To give support to the Bush administration in this matter is, imo, criminal. As the people of Iraq are slaughtered and tortured on a daily basis Mr Hitchens's apologetics ring increasingly hollow. The Wikileaks footage which I refer to and the 400,000 new documents they are publishing support my opinion. What supports yours?
@colourmegone We're on the same side, I just felt that I needed to defend Hitchens on the accusations of cowardice and hypocrisy he's been getting. But he does make an excellent point about the need to remove theocratic dictatorships for the world to progress. And we can at least celebrate the fact that we helped form a democratic government in Iraq after being in the clutches of a mad dictator for so many years. In my honest opinion, there is no right or wrong side on this issue.
@Jonmad17 Saddam Hussein was not a theocrat, he was a secular dictator who engaged in a war with Iran, a true theocracy, with the aid and moral support of the US.
If you believe the government the US installed in Iraq is a democracy you are ignorant of the facts. Iraqis now suffer more brutality under the occupation than they ever suffered under Saddam, and it isn't just the militias, it's the Iraqi and US troops. The Iraq adventure is a cynical ploy to sieze resources, nothing more.
@colourmegone The genocide committed against the Kurdish people could be enough to justify an invasion, but the fact that Saddam didn't give complete unfettered access to UN weapon inspectors (they did go, but were severely restricted) gave the impression that he was hiding something (although obviously that wasn't the case). The fact that he also sheltered Al-Qaeda members was troubling. Honestly, I'm just playing devil's advocate. I'm still unsure on my position.
@Jonmad17 "genocide.. to justify an invasion" Then why wasn't it before the UN oil embargo? Why didn't the US go in during the first Gulf War (it could as well have been called the Esso war) and stop it? Why is Turkey, which is an ally of the US, still oppressing its Kurdish minority with no outcry from Mr Hitchens or anyone else? The Kurds are an excuse. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that the gas Saddam used against them was supplied by US or UK firms, or even their respective governments.
@colourmegone You're spouting babble while seeking to rationalize genocide and ethnic cleansing because your brain so dearly wants to hate the United States. Get over yourself.
@poolopis01 I usually ignore idiots but in your case I'll make an exception. The US is based on genocide and ethnic cleansing. You obviously can't abide someone merely stating the facts. The US in its foreign and domestic policies is no different to any other country. Its primary goal is to project its power to secure its economic and political interests. That's why Saddam enjoyed US support for his policies, including his massacres of the Kurds, right up until he invaded Kuwait.
@KayBeeEee1983 Yeah, right. Tell it to the Indians, I'm sure they'll be glad to know they didn't suffer through genocide and ethnic cleansing. It will relieve their minds no end. Not to mention the southern blacks who lived under an apartheid regime for over a hundred years and so on.
@colourmegone You're an ignorant fool. The USA may have conquered the Natives, but we didn't commit genocide. We didn't deliberately wipe out an entire race of people. You think American conquest was unique in history? The USA is no worse than any other empire. Look at the Spanish in America, the Dutch in South Africa, the Belgians in Congo, the Germans in Europe, the British all over the world, the Japanese in China, the Russians in Ukraine, Ottomans in Armenia. And that's just modern history.
@KayBeeEee1983 Yes we did. we passed out small pox infcted blankets to the indians, we rounded them up and sent them hundreds sometimes thousands of miles to live on reservations ( aka internment camps).
@jecleveland1 There's no proof that anyone infected any Native Americans with small pox. Why the hell would the Natives even accept blankets from the British during a war anyway? Think about that for a few minutes....
We didn't send them to internment camps, you fucking retard. Ever heard of Oklahoma? Before it became a state, it was called "Indian Territory". Even if we did send them to camps, that's not genocide.
This guy just gets it! We never all agree on policy that is part of what comes from living in a democracy where we dont have to agree! But no matter what when it comes down to it we are all Americans!

My current favorite writer and speaker, I'm embarrassed that he voted for Obama. Hitchens is someone I look up to. Adultery I would forgive... Arrest and incarceration for dwi or drug stuff wouldn't phase me at all... But I'm ashamed that this great thinker voted for the senator from illinois... A place I wouldn't go if you paid me... Cheech's Kryst : - %
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
So let see. Hitchens, who I admire, voted for Obama because:
1) He likes the way he writes
2) He's black and we're ready for a black pres
3) He basically likes obama.
How about the issues? How about the fact that he is an extreme leftist at heart and his voting record proves that. Of course, he has back peddled on almost every campaign promise.
I provided examples of key industries the US government subsidizes. Taxpayer money funds all of them, whether in the form of direct subsidies, government contracts, R&D funding, etc, etc . You asked for evidence. I gave it. You won't accept it, or bother to verify it. You have no critical thinking skills. You cannot engage in a conversation. You can only make pronoucements and denigrate anyone who doesn't accept them. You are an idiot. Conversation over.
No, you're wrong. Most major industries in this country are subsidized--massively. Take the example of Boeing. Yes, it is a private company in the sense that its profits are private. But the public pays for it. Boeing wouldn't EXIST were it not for government contracts, usually funnled through the military and, yes, NASA. If tax dollars are paying for it, it is subsidized. Doesn't if we call it something else.
Umm, what a stupid fucking response. First you say most major industries are government subsidized, then the best example you can come up with is Boeing. ROFL. Boeing builds airplanes for the government, so....umm...NO SHIT it is government subsidized. If you're going to claim that most industries are subsidized, how about naming some INDUSTRIES, not a single company that builds military airplanes. Fucking idiot.
Pick just about any industry you want. As I said, every major industry is subsidized, from agribusiness to aerospace. Think of the automotive industry, banking industry, chemicals, computers, pharmaceuticals--the list goes on and on. And none of it is secret. Read the business press (e.g. Fortune; The Economist). They talk about it quite openly.
Hmm, ok. I'll take you up on your examples, all of which are totally false. Name a government subsidized auto manufacturer. Name a " " computer manufacturer. Name a " " bank. It's true that there are government subsidized pharmaceutical and chemical companies, but the point still fails: To say that there are government subsidized **companies** is a far cry from saying that the entire industry under which said company operates is government subsidized....TBC
Naturally the Federal Reserve (keyword FEDERAL) is funded by the government....it's a government institution, owned and managed by the government, so it's not even a good example of something that's government subsidized. Even if it was actually a privately owned, government subsidized (which it is not) institution, it still in no way follows that the banking industry is gov't subsidized. Like all other industries, it's entirely privatized. NO INDUSTRY, as I've said 10 times, is gov't subsidized
Any idiot could name government agencies as well as companies that the government pays for its products and services. Nonetheless, you've provided absolutely NOTHING in regards to government subsidized industries, because there are none. They're all entirely free markets. The closest thing to a government subsidized industry is religion...Churches get tax breaks and are sometimes subsidized. Fortunately, religion isn't an industry. Any more questions?
Christopher Hitchens' jingoistic "best-selling books" make it to the best-sellers' list because they are bought throughout the country, by the tax-funded public libraries, at their full retail price. They sit on the shelves for a year or 2 ignored by the public, after such time they're sold for 50 cents each to benefit the Friends of the Library (Ladies' Auxiliary). Deport the traitor Hitchens!
Having reviewed the recent things I've said, I really don't understand where you came up with this one. Where did I ever say anything about when England declared war on Germany? I stated that Hitler declared war on France (later to be invaded), England and the U.S. I'm sure I never said that Britain didn't declare war on Germany in 1939, so you're anti-logic fails again.. I imagine you're jumping on wikipedia or something for your info, but I'll elaborate on it anyway.
Oh, good one man. Here we have a Red Herring/AdHom. response. Instead of responding to the intellectual arguments I've made (since you can't competently do so) you resort to "You don't get it kid. Go away." I think that shows how little confidence (rightly so) that you have in your, well, ignorance. If you really wanna try this, I'm here for you. I'd love to school you over Skype. You can record it and put it on YouTube and let the world judge. Just say when....
Let's here something intelligible. If you can't respond to what I said competently, just admit it. If the best you can do is "Britain saved the world" (which it has NEVER done; ask any historian) and "Total bollocks" then I would consider you the loser. I post arguments, facts and statistics regarding the war, you post "Total bollocks." I think the words speak for themselves.
Illusion of power and wealth? I suppose that is a step up from saying the U.S. is a 3rd world country. Both of us know who would win between the Queens Navy and the U.S. Navy. You couldn't handle us in 1776, you needed our help in WW2 , your beer is warm and gross, your women are ugly and toothless, and your humor is dry and stupid, and you put fags in your mouth. No wonder your so bitter towards Americans. Enjoy your illusion of superiority.
Do i really have to spell it for you? A couple of Englishmen didnt like your shitty government and said "Fuck you King George". The English from England didnt like it so they tried to take it back and they got their asses kicked. But they didnt learn their lesson and came back in 1812 with a bigger army and STILL got humiliated. Then the U.S. had to hold their hand through WW2.
And I'm the one whose brainwased into thoughts of superiority.
They also lost dipshit. Allow me to clarify, the English who had balls started calling themselves Americans and then kicked the asses of the invading English queens all the way home. which explains why the british are so snide, bitter and sarcastic today. Because england left its nuts in the U.S.A.
And its not that i couldn't hold my dick, its just that your mom was doing such an awesome job with her tongue.
your missing the point. Before they fought the crown they REJECTED the title of English. If you went back in time to 1784 Philidelphia and called Thomas Jefferson English he'd knock your gnarled yellow teeth down your throat, and make you bow before the superior American constitution.
Englishmen didn't fight the crown and make this country. Americans did. This was a group of disgruntled expatriates, who refused to call themselves servants of the crown. These guys who you're trying to call Englishmen refused to be called Englishmen themselves. Do you think Englishmen created a new flag, a new nation, and drafted the greatest living Constitution to this day? Englishmen are folks who still to this day live under a monarch and pay taxes for a state church. It's laughable.
The truth does hurt. That's why you're fabricating lies. It seems that your ancestors, unlike mine, were cowards, and preferred tyranny to liberty. That's why, as I've said, you're still the plaything of a monarch. That's why you pay taxes to a church for which you didn't ask.
This country isn't in rapid decline, yours is. Yours is being sold down the river to the EU in Brussels. It that was the truth I had to live with, I imagine it would indeed hurt.
Liberty, as defined by the Princeton Collection: autonomy: immunity from arbitrary exercise of authority.
As an American citizen, that perfectly describes my citizenship... I'm immune from arbitrary (that means meaningless...figured I should go ahead and define it for you in advance) government intervention all together. You live in England and you're trying to tell me that you know more about my experience as an American than I do. That says a lot about you....To be continued...
As regards my ancestors: the first direct ancestor of mine to make the journey to the states was an English doctor in 1864. If that constitutes an illiterate immigrant peasant, so be it.
Back to the liberty point: I defined it for you, and explained why it perfectly describes my experience as an American. It's laughable to find that one's duties as a slave of the crown in your country represents a perfectly contrary situation: you pay taxes to a state-managed church. I'm sympathetic.
Your math skills are showing again. 2009-1864 = ? (drum roll) 145 years.
You're half right, the crown means nothing to me. The implications and products of the Revolution, however, mean *everything* to me. They guarantee that I'll never be subject to the barbaric standards of the crown, the most repulsive of which I've mentioned several times by now: a state-run, state-imposed religion.
I wonder if all this tension and resentment is the result of jealousy?
Your family contributed to the creation of America? Interesting..I'm glad they decided to go back home to the absolute monarch, for my sake.
I'd like to expound further on your methodology....You say that since my ancestors weren't in America on the day it was founded, the Revolution and Constitution mean nothing to me. Ok, so by that standard, your existence means absolutely nothing to you. After all, you weren't around when you were conceived. I'll keep jogging circles around you if you like.
Good, solid refutation right there. I accept your surrender. Every time I make you look stupid, you come back with "Don't be silly." I really never would've imagined saying this, but you really do the English injustice. You know nothing. You're ignorant. You haven't held a single intelligible position. You've been proven wrong on every issue. I return to my initial suggestion: Do the species a favor and commit suicide.
You're honestly a fucking idiot. Do you really not know about the subtle differences in British and American English? Put the word "favor" in your favorite spell checker and see what you come up with.
"You have no logic." -- Coming from a person who thinks that one is required to have been present at the inception of a society in order to ground his or her livelihood in that society is telling me I have no logic. If that's your measure of logic, I'll take it as a compliment.
Respond to something that I posit for a change. I know you've lost every altercation, but at least try.
If our constitution is a copy of the French, why don't we have a parliament? The Constitution of France depends on the EU. You'll never be able to say that of my country =) Your country is worse yet: it's controlled by a few guys sitting in Brussels, where about 90% of your legislation is determined. England is no longer a sovereign nation. You've been sold down the river to the EU. Enjoy
I agree about the EU. I don't like it because it's not democratic. But don't be under any illusions that there is democracy in America as Kennedy was the last president who wasn't a puppet for the real rulers of the Anglo/American 'empire'.
Before France liberated america, without the English owning and civilizing it, america would be a land of Tipis, mudhuts and no one speaking English
My channel profile list in tribute to the Brits and their greatness... (which has been copied and pasted on forums - i didnt agree to that..anyway).. as america is DRENCHED in using English stuff, we all revere and are indebted
On nationality, July 2007 Hitchens states - "I always say i'm English, not British"
Your comment is a whopping nonsequitur and neither responds to nor refutes anything I have said thus far. I've never denied the English influence on American culture. There's not as much nowadays as people think, but much of our literature and linguistics still smack of Anglo connotation. As it happens, the tables have for the most part changed: these days, cultural trends in England come from us.
lol, they dont do C-rap, dont play any american sports, everything thats #1 in England is English... conversely everything thats #1 in America is English. Ever wonder why the English make so much Indie music??? because they are cater for their people and their own taste. This years British dominated Grammy and Academy Awards being a recent example of their status in america
In every aspect of american society (bar crime, cowboys and mickey mouse).. English fingerprints are all over em.
You're wrong in almost every regard. They most certainly *DO* produce rap music. Rap music has a HUGE following in England. I lived there for six months by the way. They don't really play American sports, but that's not really something that would be considered a cultural trend in the first place. They do emulate our music very much and they do emulate our food and virtually every cultural tendency.
Secondly, I'd like to point out a contradiction that you made of yourself: You tell me that everything that's big in England is English and everything that's big in America is English. Then you point out all the things that we do that they don't do: baseball, football, rap. Umm... Soccer, lacrosse, polo and rugby are tiny in the United States. They have a tiny minority following.
I'd also like to take you up on the last point. What are the English roots of cowboys and Mickey mouse?
Indeed. The only thing america does is, due to large home market hence advantage of business growth inspite of lack of quality, is mass produce other peoples stuff
Err nope, MIA left England as C-rap is alien to Brits.. hence they dont do it...Indie music DOMINATES their production (too much imo but thats to cater for them)
Baseball is English, they never created a pro league because they didnt invent it for adults. Cowboys/Mickey - re read
No, you missed the point about American food. As the result of American's fast food revolution, every nation in the world is clad with McDonalds and Taco Bells and Subways. About rap, you're simply mistaken. You strike me as someone who has never even been there. ALL the kids WORSHIP American rap music, just as the youth of every nation in the world do. Looks like you've cited one group in an attempt to represent an entire genre, which indicates a weak position.
You really have demonstrated that you know nothing about the subject. The English have their own genre that they've created solely because of the explosion of rap music in the England. It's called "UK RAP," more often referred to as "Brithop."It's absolutely HUGE in England. Baseball isn't English, it's the "American pastime." The first archaic version may have been played by people in England, but it's an American sport that isn't played by the English.
Regarding cowboys and mickey mouse, I'm not sure what I need to read again. You stated that every aspect of American society (citing cowboys and Mickey Mouse) had English fingerprints all over them. Mickey Mouse was created by an American and the term cowboy was invented by Americans. Here's the first hit for "definition of cowboy:" an animal herder who tends cattle on ranches in North America, traditionally on horseback, and often performs a multitude of other ranch-related tasks.
hahaha... bro unfortunately you are up against someone who's knowledge on British culture is second to none on almost any non Brit, having not only lived there for a period, but studied past and contemporary history
Brits are 93% white (they dont say caucasian) are very parochial, they dont get C-rap...what they do is called Grime/Dubstep, and thats marginal.
Oh sure... Baseball aint English and Pizza aint Italian. lol. Again re read point on Cowboys and Mickey... heres a clue... "bar"
We call this a "red herring," kids. You have once again failed to address my comment. Go look up the BRITHOP/UK RAP movement. I'll say it one more time. THERE IS A GENRE UNTO ITSELF CREATED AS THE RESULT OF THE DEMAND FOR RAP MUSIC AMONG ENGLISH YOUTH. Baseball isn't English, it's predominantly American. That's why the British don't play it. It's called the American pastime for a reason.
Oh and I really like the "past and contemporary history" remark....Past....contemporary....history....lol.
Gone awfully quiet on "bar" kid...lol, CAPSLOCK (code for) "i am desperate to get my point across as having had my "A" hole served to me on a plate, i have no belief in what i'm saying"
errr...past and contemporary is an inference of pre modern and modern history, indeedy. and Its history that the British continue to make
I get inundated with messages of more giant Brits in america.. last two, John Wesley (Methodist faith), Lord Baltimore (Catholic colony)..its endless
Awefully quiet? I was under the impression that we read with our eyes. Do my words resound with you in such a way that you actually hear them? Caps lock is code for "I've said this three times thus far without avail. I'm engaging in an act of futility, as YouTube comments often are."
Once again, you've ignored the point. You didn't address it at all. You have nothing to say about the entire branch of British rap. It's so big it has its own genre.
You've also demonstrated for the sixth time that you have no grasp of history. Catholicism wasn't an English movement. We got Catholicism from Italy. Secondly, neither Catholicism nor Methodism support your position. The Catholic and Methodist communities in the United States are minority groups. Go look up how many Anglicans there are in the United States, then tell me about British influence in the States as regards religion.
The culture of the United States is one contrary to that of England in almost every respect. Our culture represents a defection from English culture. Not to know this is not to know anything about it.
As regards your "bar" comment, I haven't responded because it makes no sense. You listed three things and claimed that they all smacked of British influence. None of them do.
From now on, I'll only be responding to comments that are competent responses to what I say. If you continue to put up red herring and ad hom. remakrs, I'll accept your surrender.
lol... first CAPSLOCK in desperation to get point across... now Multi posts... thats 2 for 2
Uhm...a certain Dubya Bush has a faith in John Wesley Methodism.. also has statues across america. Meanwhile Lord Baltimore (whom i owe alot) created the first colony Maryland, that welcomed Catholic faith
tee hee hee..oh its even worse than gone quiet then.... you still dont get it, lolz.
Sir Rowland Hill - modern Postal service, invented the Postage stamp, 1941 american Society Hall of Fame
I explained caps locks and multiple posts. Those are attempts to make you look even dumber than you've made yourself look. Naming followers of methodism and catholicism doesn't refute anything I've said. They're still minorities. Very small minorities. The postage stamp isn't a cultural influence. You're just running out of things to say.
You might owe a lot to Lord Baltimore, but in my opinion you should invest in "Hooked on Phonics." You'll owe them a lot too after a few years.
Oh dear.. oh d d dear dear.. culture?? "ahem"... British invasion
facepalm, to even have to state the biggest cultural takeover in modern history..now im feelin embarrassed for you
In every corner of america, the English have a grip... from English language, to English common law, to the English hymn borrowed for anthem, to the English stripes in the flag, to English Apple pie, to English baseball, to English measurements mile, yards etc, to English Keynesian Economics... again, endless
Actually, none of those are valid in the first place. The English language isn't original. If you're going to attribute the English language as a cultural influence, you wouldn't attribute it to England, you'd attribute it to Scandinavia. English is a Germanic language. It's not original to England.
haha... right, so you can understand Germanic then???... or Scandanavian then???
Theodore Roosevelt once quipped about the English when asked if they were soft, his response in mocking such a suggestion was that they spread the English language to the 4 corners of the world
The word "Fall" as in the season, the English brought it with them to the 13 colonies in 17th century, became obsolete in Britain, still in wide use in America. Their influence is such with things they dont even use
Umm....Yes, as a matter of fact I do speak German fluently. Scandinavian isn't a language.
As for England, they're a collapsed empire with no influence on the international stage at all. The English crown is just a pawn to a few EU representatives in Brussels.
You've never been to England and you no nothing about British society. They already have lost their unique identity. Their government is diving the law into two different standards in order to appease the Muslim population. Don't take it from me, go ask some British people.
"Peeps who only speak English do not understand German, Swedish...."
That's a very profound statement. I thought people who spoke ONLY English spoke other languages too. WOW
You've failed again to address the issue. English is a GERMANIC language, not a British language. Go back to third grade and learn some European history.
@Humperdink18 It derives from German, but I believe it is actually now a British language. Otherwise, I would be saying, "nein, es ist ein deutscher Sprache."
sigh.. thought my Ironic use of CAPSLOCK would trigger a comment
Anyways..err yes i have been to England (Oct 1998 - Jan 1999).. the culture was stunning (quite rightly London in 2009 ranked #1 worldwide for culture)...93% are white peeps, so wheres this Muslim populous??? Indeed
lol, dumb dee dumb dee dumb... duuuuh, English is its own language, hence German, French, Latin aint understood by only English speakers
Without the English owning/civilizing america, you aint speakin English
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
"Without the English.....you (aint) speakin Englsih)."
You're not speaking English as it is....
Where do you get these random statistics? "quite rightly London in 2009 ranked #1 worldwide for culture" What the fuck does that mean? Ranked number 1 for culture? Huh?
If you mean they ranked number 1 for cultural diversity, I can believe that. But it supports my position, not yours. They're only culturally diverse because they have MILLIONS of Muslims.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Oh, and by the way, the fact that London is a culturally diverse place says absolutely ZERO about England's cultural influence on the United States.
About English, you're exactly wrong. English is *NOT* its own language. It's a branch of Nordic Germanic. If you want to attribute English to Britian you're an ignorant moron at best. That would lead to a regression all the way back to 12th Century Scandinavia. It's on no way original to England.
The fact that you were in England during the 90's makes it a lot clearer as to why you're so stupid. The last time I was there was about 8 months ago. You should go back before you make any more idiotic statements about ethnicity. There are MILLIONS and MILLIONS of Muslims there. British Muslims are the fastest growing minority on the planet. You think Sharia Law is being sought out by white people? You're delusional.
Culture encompasses an endless number of factors... such as Sports, Threatre, Film, Museums, Landmarks, Heritage sites, Scenary, Shops, Restaurants..etc... the People is only one aspect. London comes out on top.
Err nope, it may derive from.. but it stands alone, hence peeps who only speak English can't understand other languages. Fackywacktoid.
sigh... the census was years after i was there, 93%. No way are you this stooopid, no way
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Stop proposing statistics if you can't back them up. I used the National Statistics Census website to get my information. The estimated number of Muslims in England today is about 12 million. In 2001, they numbered only 2 million.
You really couldn't be more wrong about everything you say. I've really enjoyed trolling you, but I'm disappointed in your inability to reason.
Actually, any competent speaker of English can understand thousands of words from other languages. Maybe you can't....
lol... oh sure, was gonna tell you to keep tellin yourself that, and maybe one day, sometime waaaaaaay in the future...you may just believe it... but nah, no chance
As my buddy would say... not a scooby do...lol
As a pretty charitable person, one who is willing to give tips for free... my advice is to read more, learn definitions, broaden knowledge, and adopt some common sense.... and some British class.. for as we know, the Brits have class aplenty
I would part company as regards your apologetic approach to English culture. We're certainly not in debt to our own heritage. I don't owe the English anything because I value Shakespeare. I don't revere their culture as it exists today, either. As regards their government and economic condition, they're in shambles. Any government that seriously considers implementing a second standard (Sharia law) for its electorate is best described as weak and unremarkable.
Yeah, the English won the war. So did the French, in a literal sense. If you would, even for a fraction of a second, entertain the idea that the English could've survived the onslaught of the Luftwaffe if it weren't for the United States, you are worse than delusional. What were the English doing while the Americans and Russians were cleaning up in Berlin? I think we both know they were licking their wounds in London, which was in ruins. Be honest with yourself, if not with everyone else.
You are correct in saying that UK responded to Germany's invasion of Poland with a formal declaration of war. France did likewise. However, allied troops didn't actually see any combat with the Germans until 1940, as I've said. So, it boils down to the following: The US did NOT enter the war at the end, but rather than the beginning, and in doing so it saved the western world (as stated by Winston Churchill in May, 1945. Listen man, I'm an MEH major, so please stop for your own sake and mine...
The level of ignorance, clear limit of education and lack intelligence evident in all these posts says everything about the posters. Please silence your empty pointless barely literate yammerings and refrain from spewing your idiotic mindless vomit all over youtube. Ah the internet; the last refuge of the anonymous, the vacuous and the pointless.
Just a point or two to make; primarily, one does not need to hold a degree or any level of certified education to produce an opinion on a medium like youtube, if you are after a more in-depth intellectual debate then there are plenty alternative forums to debate your ideas. Secondly, before demeaning others for their behaviour/opinions, you should perhaps understand the concepts behind these media first. It is the glorification of free speech that make websites like youtube so great.
Son of an immigrant peasant... yeah, that's me all right. Still, the sons of immigrant peasants are richer than the sons of nobles who stayed in the swamp. Benefit scrounging? And yet we're still ahead in everything from information technology to military to economic and political theory, to actually having a strong economy.
Again, go fuck yourself and stop brooding over the fact that we beat you in the only 2 wars our nations ever fought.
What I find funny is how people think that military strength equals how good a country is. I'm canadian, I love my country, and I respect the US and the UK. You can't deny that if either of those 3 countries were at war with eachother for any stupid reason, it wouldn't be easy for any one country to win.
Fair enough. I agree with you, everyone should be proud of their respective nations. You're also right about the hypothetical war. We each have strong, Western militaries with advanced technology and good training.
1. learn a little better english before you embarrass your home country that bares the name of the language itself. ("america is fuck all"?)

KayBeeEee1983 9 months ago
@Bill4Banco I understand that the US expertly and efficiently slaughters the native populations of any country where they stand in its way, including the natives of North America. Of course you could argue that this is simply the role of the Master Race and that the weak should be wiped from the face of the earth but I believe you'd run into trouble. The last person who tried that ended up blowing his brains out in a hole in the ground in the ruins of Berlin.

Hitchens sees in Obama a fellow member of the university educated elite.
To someone like Hitch, Palin is beyond the Pale because she does not have a serious education.
alnot01 1 year ago
@alnot01 that's not a good analysis.
BrendanIsCool 1 year ago
@alnot01 In the United States, college/university admissions are incredibly open, and federal and state aid for low income students is actually quite a bit higher than is generally suggested. A university education is attained by nearly a third of the population. I think the more appropriate term is the intelligent. To someone like Hitch, Palin is beyond the Pale because she is not intelligent.
poolopis01 1 year ago
@poolopis01 : Just what "university education" means runs all over the map. Most college degrees aren't worth much, because the students either lack ability or don't do much work.
The "aid" you talk about mainly takes the form of student loans.
I am not so sure that Palin is dumb. I think she's a populist who's become totally used to dealing with Alaska rednecks.
There is an Ivy League elite in the USA. Hitch is part of it; Palin is not.

colourmegone 1 year ago
@colourmegone That's a completely unfair statement. No one here needs to question Christopher Hitchen's intellectual honesty and bravery. He's visited (as a journalist) a number of war-wridden countries and has been shot at on more than one occasion. He's also voluntarily been waterboarded and has been arrested for holding revolutionary meetings in foreign countries. He's a brave and honest man and should be commended as such.
Jonmad17 1 year ago
@Jonmad17 I salute his intellectual honesty and courage but I criticise his inconsistency. Imo anyone who supports the war in Iraq is either a fool or a knave. To give support to the Bush administration in this matter is, imo, criminal. As the people of Iraq are slaughtered and tortured on a daily basis Mr Hitchens's apologetics ring increasingly hollow. The Wikileaks footage which I refer to and the 400,000 new documents they are publishing support my opinion. What supports yours?
colourmegone 1 year ago
@colourmegone We're on the same side, I just felt that I needed to defend Hitchens on the accusations of cowardice and hypocrisy he's been getting. But he does make an excellent point about the need to remove theocratic dictatorships for the world to progress. And we can at least celebrate the fact that we helped form a democratic government in Iraq after being in the clutches of a mad dictator for so many years. In my honest opinion, there is no right or wrong side on this issue.
Jonmad17 1 year ago
@Jonmad17 Saddam Hussein was not a theocrat, he was a secular dictator who engaged in a war with Iran, a true theocracy, with the aid and moral support of the US.
If you believe the government the US installed in Iraq is a democracy you are ignorant of the facts. Iraqis now suffer more brutality under the occupation than they ever suffered under Saddam, and it isn't just the militias, it's the Iraqi and US troops. The Iraq adventure is a cynical ploy to sieze resources, nothing more.
colourmegone 1 year ago
@colourmegone The genocide committed against the Kurdish people could be enough to justify an invasion, but the fact that Saddam didn't give complete unfettered access to UN weapon inspectors (they did go, but were severely restricted) gave the impression that he was hiding something (although obviously that wasn't the case). The fact that he also sheltered Al-Qaeda members was troubling. Honestly, I'm just playing devil's advocate. I'm still unsure on my position.
Jonmad17 1 year ago
@Jonmad17 "genocide.. to justify an invasion" Then why wasn't it before the UN oil embargo? Why didn't the US go in during the first Gulf War (it could as well have been called the Esso war) and stop it? Why is Turkey, which is an ally of the US, still oppressing its Kurdish minority with no outcry from Mr Hitchens or anyone else? The Kurds are an excuse. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that the gas Saddam used against them was supplied by US or UK firms, or even their respective governments.
colourmegone 1 year ago
@colourmegone You're spouting babble while seeking to rationalize genocide and ethnic cleansing because your brain so dearly wants to hate the United States. Get over yourself.
poolopis01 1 year ago
@poolopis01 I usually ignore idiots but in your case I'll make an exception. The US is based on genocide and ethnic cleansing. You obviously can't abide someone merely stating the facts. The US in its foreign and domestic policies is no different to any other country. Its primary goal is to project its power to secure its economic and political interests. That's why Saddam enjoyed US support for his policies, including his massacres of the Kurds, right up until he invaded Kuwait.
colourmegone 1 year ago
@colourmegone "The US is based on genocide and ethnic cleansing."
That is absurd. Take that sentence out and your comment makes sense.
KayBeeEee1983 9 months ago
@KayBeeEee1983 Yeah, right. Tell it to the Indians, I'm sure they'll be glad to know they didn't suffer through genocide and ethnic cleansing. It will relieve their minds no end. Not to mention the southern blacks who lived under an apartheid regime for over a hundred years and so on.
colourmegone 9 months ago
@colourmegone You're an ignorant fool. The USA may have conquered the Natives, but we didn't commit genocide. We didn't deliberately wipe out an entire race of people. You think American conquest was unique in history? The USA is no worse than any other empire. Look at the Spanish in America, the Dutch in South Africa, the Belgians in Congo, the Germans in Europe, the British all over the world, the Japanese in China, the Russians in Ukraine, Ottomans in Armenia. And that's just modern history.

Conversation over.
fileboy2002 2 years ago
No, you're wrong. Most major industries in this country are subsidized--massively. Take the example of Boeing. Yes, it is a private company in the sense that its profits are private. But the public pays for it. Boeing wouldn't EXIST were it not for government contracts, usually funnled through the military and, yes, NASA. If tax dollars are paying for it, it is subsidized. Doesn't if we call it something else.
fileboy2002 2 years ago
Umm, what a stupid fucking response. First you say most major industries are government subsidized, then the best example you can come up with is Boeing. ROFL. Boeing builds airplanes for the government, so....umm...NO SHIT it is government subsidized. If you're going to claim that most industries are subsidized, how about naming some INDUSTRIES, not a single company that builds military airplanes. Fucking idiot.
Humperdink18 2 years ago
Pick just about any industry you want. As I said, every major industry is subsidized, from agribusiness to aerospace. Think of the automotive industry, banking industry, chemicals, computers, pharmaceuticals--the list goes on and on. And none of it is secret. Read the business press (e.g. Fortune; The Economist). They talk about it quite openly.
fileboy2002 2 years ago
Humperdink18 2 years ago
Naturally the Federal Reserve (keyword FEDERAL) is funded by the government....it's a government institution, owned and managed by the government, so it's not even a good example of something that's government subsidized. Even if it was actually a privately owned, government subsidized (which it is not) institution, it still in no way follows that the banking industry is gov't subsidized. Like all other industries, it's entirely privatized. NO INDUSTRY, as I've said 10 times, is gov't subsidized
Humperdink18 2 years ago
Any idiot could name government agencies as well as companies that the government pays for its products and services. Nonetheless, you've provided absolutely NOTHING in regards to government subsidized industries, because there are none. They're all entirely free markets. The closest thing to a government subsidized industry is religion...Churches get tax breaks and are sometimes subsidized. Fortunately, religion isn't an industry. Any more questions?

Oh, good one man. Here we have a Red Herring/AdHom. response. Instead of responding to the intellectual arguments I've made (since you can't competently do so) you resort to "You don't get it kid. Humperdink18 2 years ago

And I'm the one whose brainwased into thoughts of superiority.

Humperdink18 2 years ago
The truth does hurt. That's why you're fabricating lies. It seems that your ancestors, unlike mine, were cowards, and preferred tyranny to liberty. That's why, as I've said, you're still the plaything of a monarch. That's why you pay taxes to a church for which you didn't ask.
This country isn't in rapid decline, yours is. Yours is being sold down the river to the EU in Brussels. It that was the truth I had to live with, I imagine it would indeed hurt.
Humperdink18 2 years ago
If you think you have liberty in America then you're a brainwashed idiot.
As for ancestors I bet yours were illiterate immigrant peasants.
Thanks for watching in WWII COWARDS.
MrKippers22 2 years ago
Liberty, as defined by the Princeton Collection: autonomy: immunity from arbitrary exercise of authority.
As an American citizen, that perfectly describes my citizenship... I'm immune from arbitrary (that means meaningless...figured I should go ahead and define it for you in advance) government intervention all together. You live in England and you're trying to tell me that you know more about my experience as an American than I do. That says a lot about you....To be continued...
Humperdink18 2 years ago
As regards my ancestors: the first direct ancestor of mine to make the journey to the states was an English doctor in 1864. If that constitutes an illiterate immigrant peasant, so be it.
Back to the liberty point: I defined it for you, and explained why it perfectly describes my experience as an American. It's laughable to find that one's duties as a slave of the crown in your country represents a perfectly contrary situation: you pay taxes to a state-managed church. I'm sympathetic.
Humperdink18 2 years ago
But the Crown and revolution means nothing to you as you've only been there for 2 minutes.
Where was your ancestor from?
MrKippers22 2 years ago
Your math skills are showing again. 2009-1864 = ? (drum roll) 145 years.
You're half right, the crown means nothing to me. The implications and products of the Revolution, however, mean *everything* to me. They guarantee that I'll never be subject to the barbaric standards of the crown, the most repulsive of which I've mentioned several times by now: a state-run, state-imposed religion.
I wonder if all this tension and resentment is the result of jealousy?
Humperdink18 2 years ago
But 1864 is not 1776 is it.
Your family contributed nothing to the creation of America whereas mine did.
Jog on.
MrKippers22 2 years ago
Your family contributed to the creation of America? Interesting..I'm glad they decided to go back home to the absolute monarch, for my sake.
I'd like to expound further on your methodology....You say that since my ancestors weren't in America on the day it was founded, the Revolution and Constitution mean nothing to me. Ok, so by that standard, your existence means absolutely nothing to you. After all, you weren't around when you were conceived. I'll keep jogging circles around you if you like.
Humperdink18 2 years ago

MrKippers22 2 years ago

"You have no logic." -- Coming from a person who thinks that one is required to have been present at the inception of a society in order to ground his or her livelihood in that society is telling me I have no logic. If that's your measure of logic, I'll take it as a compliment.

England is no longer a sovereign nation. You've been sold down the river to the EU. Enjoy
Humperdink18 2 years ago

My channel profile list in tribute to the Brits and their greatness... (which has been copied and pasted on forums - i didnt agree to that..anyway).. as america is DRENCHED in using English stuff, we all revere and are indebted
On nationality, July 2007 Hitchens states - "I always say i'm English, not British"
Ali74 2 years ago
Your comment is a whopping nonsequitur and neither responds to nor refutes anything I have said thus far. I've never denied the English influence on American culture. There's not as much nowadays as people think, but much of our literature and linguistics still smack of Anglo connotation. As it happens, the tables have for the most part changed: these days, cultural trends in England come from us.
Humperdink18 2 years ago
lol, they dont do C-rap, dont play any american sports, everything thats #1 in England is English... conversely everything thats #1 in America is English. Ever wonder why the English make so much Indie music??? because they are cater for their people and their own taste. This years British dominated Grammy and Academy Awards being a recent example of their status in america
In every aspect of american society (bar crime, cowboys and mickey mouse).. English fingerprints are all over em.
Ali74 2 years ago
You're wrong in almost every regard. They most certainly *DO* produce rap music. Rap music has a HUGE following in England. I lived there for six months by the way. They don't really play American sports, but that's not really something that would be considered a cultural trend in the first place. They do emulate our music very much and they do emulate our food and virtually every cultural tendency.
Humperdink18 2 years ago
Secondly, I'd like to point out a contradiction that you made of yourself: You tell me that everything that's big in England is English and everything that's big in America is English. Then you point out all the things that we do that they don't do: baseball, football, rap. Umm... Soccer, lacrosse, polo and rugby are tiny in the United States. They have a tiny minority following.
I'd also like to take you up on the last point. What are the English roots of cowboys and Mickey mouse?
Humperdink18 2 years ago
lol..what cheap versions of European food??
Ali74 2 years ago
No, you missed the point about American food. As the result of American's fast food revolution, every nation in the world is clad with McDonalds and Taco Bells and Subways. About rap, you're simply mistaken. You strike me as someone who has never even been there. ALL the kids WORSHIP American rap music, just as the youth of every nation in the world do. Looks like you've cited one group in an attempt to represent an entire genre, which indicates a weak position.
Humperdink18 2 years ago
You really have demonstrated that you know nothing about the subject. The English have their own genre that they've created solely because of the explosion of rap music in the England. It's called "UK RAP," more often referred to as "Brithop."It's absolutely HUGE in England. Baseball isn't English, it's the "American pastime." The first archaic version may have been played by people in England, but it's an American sport that isn't played by the English.
Humperdink18 2 years ago
Regarding cowboys and mickey mouse, I'm not sure what I need to read again. You stated that every aspect of American society (citing cowboys and Mickey Mouse) had English fingerprints all over them. Mickey Mouse was created by an American and the term cowboy was invented by Americans. Here's the first hit for "definition of cowboy:" an animal herder who tends cattle on ranches in North America, traditionally on horseback, and often performs a multitude of other ranch-related tasks.
Humperdink18 2 years ago
hahaha... bro unfortunately you are up against someone who's knowledge on British culture is second to none on almost any non Brit, having not only lived there for a period, but studied past and contemporary history
"bar"
Ali74 2 years ago
We call this a "red herring," kids. You have once again failed to address my comment. Go look up the BRITHOP/UK RAP movement. I'll say it one more time. THERE IS A GENRE UNTO ITSELF CREATED AS THE RESULT OF THE DEMAND FOR RAP MUSIC AMONG ENGLISH YOUTH. Baseball isn't English, it's predominantly American. That's why the British don't play it. It's called the American pastime for a reason.
Oh and I really like the "past and contemporary history" remark....Past....contemporary....history....lol.
Humperdink18 2 years ago
Gone awfully quiet on "bar" kid...lol, CAPSLOCK (code for) "i am desperate to get my point across as having had my "A" hole served to me on a plate, i have no belief in what i'm saying"
errr...past and contemporary is an inference of pre modern and modern history, indeedy. and Its history that the British continue to make
I get inundated with messages of more giant Brits in america.. last two, John Wesley (Methodist faith), Lord Baltimore (Catholic colony)..its endless
Ali74 2 years ago
Awefully quiet? I was under the impression that we read with our eyes. Do my words resound with you in such a way that you actually hear them? Caps lock is code for "I've said this three times thus far without avail. I'm engaging in an act of futility, as YouTube comments often are."
Once again, you've ignored the point. You didn't address it at all. You have nothing to say about the entire branch of British rap. It's so big it has its own genre.
Humperdink18 2 years ago
You've also demonstrated for the sixth time that you have no grasp of history. Catholicism wasn't an English movement. We got Catholicism from Italy. Secondly, neither Catholicism nor Methodism support your position. The Catholic and Methodist communities in the United States are minority groups. Go look up how many Anglicans there are in the United States, then tell me about British influence in the States as regards religion.
Humperdink18 2 years ago
The culture of the United States is one contrary to that of England in almost every respect. Our culture represents a defection from English culture. Not to know this is not to know anything about it.
Humperdink18 2 years ago
As regards your "bar" comment, I haven't responded because it makes no sense. You listed three things and claimed that they all smacked of British influence. None of them do.
Humperdink18 2 years ago
From now on, I'll only be responding to comments that are competent responses to what I say. If you continue to put up red herring and ad hom. remakrs, I'll accept your surrender.
Humperdink18 2 years ago
lol... first CAPSLOCK in desperation to get point across... now Multi posts... thats 2 for 2
Uhm...a certain Dubya Bush has a faith in John Wesley Methodism.. also has statues across america.
Ali74 2 years ago
I explained caps locks and multiple posts. Those are attempts to make you look even dumber than you've made yourself look. Naming followers of methodism and catholicism doesn't refute anything I've said. They're still minorities. Very small minorities. The postage stamp isn't a cultural influence. You're just running out of things to say.
You might owe a lot to Lord Baltimore, but in my opinion you should invest in "Hooked on Phonics." You'll owe them a lot too after a few years.
Humperdink18 2 years ago
Oh dear.. oh d d dear dear.. culture??
Ali74 2 years ago
Actually, none of those are valid in the first place. The English language isn't original. If you're going to attribute the English language as a cultural influence, you wouldn't attribute it to England, you'd attribute it to Scandinavia. English is a Germanic language. It's not original to England.
Humperdink18 2 years ago
haha... right, so you can understand Germanic then???... or Scandanavian then???
Theodore Roosevelt once quipped about the English when asked if they were soft, his response in mocking such a suggestion was that they spread the English language to the 4 corners of the world
The word "Fall" as in the season, the English brought it with them to the 13 colonies in 17th century, became obsolete in Britain, still in wide use in America. Their influence is such with things they dont even use
Ali74 2 years ago 3
Umm....Yes, as a matter of fact I do speak German fluently. Scandinavian isn't a language.
As for England, they're a collapsed empire with no influence on the international stage at all. The English crown is just a pawn to a few EU representatives in Brussels.
Humperdink18 2 years ago
Uhmm..East Scandinavian, West Scandinavian..try again
...Peeps who only speak English, do not understand German, Swedish, French....hence.."SPEAK ENGLISH"
Now... Cecil Rhodes.. "to be born English, is to win first prize in the lottery of life"
"I contend that we are the first race in the world, and that the more the world we inhabit the better it is for the human race"
English crown is nothin but a powerless figurehead. Regards EU.. Brits will still retain their unique identity
Ali74 2 years ago
"Brits will still retain their unique identity."
WOW
Humperdink18 2 years ago
You've failed again to address the issue. English is a GERMANIC language, not a British language. Go back to third grade and learn some European history.
Humperdink18 2 years ago
@Humperdink18 It derives from German, but I believe it is actually now a British language. Otherwise, I would be saying, "nein, es ist ein deutscher Sprache."
TheAqui1a 1 year ago
sigh.. thought my Ironic use of CAPSLOCK would trigger a comment

You're not speaking English as it is....
Where do you get these random statistics? "quite rightly London in 2009 ranked #1 worldwide for culture" What the fuck does that mean? Ranked number 1 for culture? Huh?
If you mean they ranked number 1 for cultural diversity, I can believe that. But it supports my position, not yours. They're only culturally diverse because they have MILLIONS of Muslims.
Humperdink18 2 years ago
This comment has received too many negative votes show
Oh, and by the way, the fact that London is a culturally diverse place says absolutely ZERO about England's cultural influence on the United States.
About English, you're exactly wrong. English is *NOT* its own language. It's a branch of Nordic Germanic. If you want to attribute English to Britian you're an ignorant moron at best. That would lead to a regression all the way back to 12th Century Scandinavia. It's on no way original to England.
Humperdink18 2 years ago
The fact that you were in England during the 90's makes it a lot clearer as to why you're so stupid. The last time I was there was about 8 months ago. You should go back before you make any more idiotic statements about ethnicity. There are MILLIONS and MILLIONS of Muslims there. British Muslims are the fastest growing minority on the planet. You think Sharia Law is being sought out by white people? You're delusional.
Humperdink18 2 years ago
ho ho...oh lord, my massacre continues...
No way are you this stooopid, no way
Ali74 2 years ago 3

Stop proposing statistics if you can't back them up. I used the National Statistics Census website to get my information. The estimated number of Muslims in England today is about 12 million. In 2001, they numbered only 2 million.
You really couldn't be more wrong about everything you say. I've really enjoyed trolling you, but I'm disappointed in your inability to reason.
Actually, any competent speaker of English can understand thousands of words from other languages. Maybe you can't....
Humperdink18 2 years ago
You're right about getting massacred intellectually. I'll have to concede that.
Culture does not encompass an "endless number of factors." Culture, like all social constructs, are *finite*. That is to say, opposite of "endless."
Try to respond to things I say instead of breaking off in irrelevant tangents. I don't mind defeating you on other topics but try to stay focused.
It looks like you know you're wrong about cultural influence in the US, so you've switched to internal factors.
Humperdink18 2 years ago
lol... oh sure, was gonna tell you to keep tellin yourself that, and maybe one day, sometime waaaaaaay in the future...you may just believe it... but nah, no chance
As my buddy would say... not a scooby do...lol
As a pretty charitable person, one who is willing to give tips for free... my advice is to read more, learn definitions, broaden knowledge, and adopt some common sense.... and some British class.. for as we know, the Brits have class aplenty

I accept your surrender. You fail to respond to the points I've made. I'll return the advice, but in fewer words: don't quit your McDonald's day job.
The British have no class. They have bad etiquette, bad teeth, and bad social skills.

Humperdink18 2 years ago
Yeah, the English won the war. So did the French, in a literal sense. If you would, even for a fraction of a second, entertain the idea that the English could've survived the onslaught of the Luftwaffe if it weren't for the United States, you are worse than delusional. What were the English doing while the Americans and Russians were cleaning up in Berlin? I think we both know they were licking their wounds in London, which was in ruins. Be honest with yourself, if not with everyone else.

Right on bro show that limey bum sniffer who's boss.
johnnythesailorman 2 years ago
You are correct in saying that UK responded to Germany's invasion of Poland with a formal declaration of war. France did likewise. However, allied troops didn't actually see any combat with the Germans until 1940, as I've said. So, it boils down to the following: The US did NOT enter the war at the end, but rather than the beginning, and in doing so it saved the western world (as stated by Winston Churchill in May, 1945. Listen man, I'm an MEH major, so please stop for your own sake and mine...

Britain saved the world. Or rather Churchill did.

FelixMcD 2 years ago 3
Just a point or two to make; primarily, one does not need to hold a degree or any level of certified education to produce an opinion on a medium like youtube, if you are after a more in-depth intellectual debate then there are plenty alternative forums to debate your ideas. Secondly, before demeaning others for their behaviour/opinions, you should perhaps understand the concepts behind these media first. It is the glorification of free speech that make websites like youtube so great.

What I find funny is how people think that military strength equals how good a country is. I'm canadian, I love my country, and I respect the US and the UK. You can't deny that if either of those 3 countries were at war with eachother for any stupid reason, it wouldn't be easy for any one country to win.
Tianbad 2 years ago
Fair enough. I agree with you, everyone should be proud of their respective nations. You're also right about the hypothetical war. We each have strong, Western militaries with advanced technology and good training.
