sorry for all the comments, but i realized i could make one that has the blade configuration in there really good, and on that is just the hilt

my idea is that i get some kind of flat surface in the bottom, glue a coupling to it.

then copy youre blade setup and screw the metal coupling to the one that is glued to the flat surface in the bottom.

next, put the cap on the top.

my problem is that i can't get find a way to get the flat surface on the bottom to stay there good.

also, the couplings screwed together might not hold tight enough.

any ideas are welcome

@Sharkman4life Sony Vegas is a great video editing tool and is good for adding sound, Adobe After Effects is what I use for my lightsaber effects but there are plenty of free programs out there you could use

i used a 3/4 inch steel coupling and it works just the same....but u have to add a little more tape on the ends to keep it in place but yeah it works great

or you can just make your own design from random plumbing parts. More cheaper and more sexier looking with the chrome finish. :) i personally don't like these plastic, replica made lightsabers because they aren't very sporting and they're unorthodox when having a lightsaber prop, but do what you want.

@ilovehpwands yes by removing everything inside including the red arrow button and the metal strip attached to it. you can now insert anything you want inside and secure it with a screw that you put where the red button was

you can actually make a real light saber with intense power lasers 670$ although they are huge rectangular lasers that cut most materials. The trick is to make it fit in a capsule like a light saber which we can do right now because we do not have advanced enough micro technologies which is a shame.

Doesn´t matter how good your stuff is which you´ve bought, you´ll still need a lot of computer effects to designe the lightsabers to look real.

And I know that that´s the most difficult part ´cause you have to draw this glowing blade on the lightsabers on each frame.

And here comes my question:

Why do you need so expensive materials? I mean 20 bugs is still alot...Couldn´t you just use a normal plastic sword and then color the blade on your comp. after it?

I am doing a fan video with some friends, and I am in charge of building the sabers...drew the short straw and all. We've been dueling with 3/4" wooden dowels as the blades. The wood is poplar. They are very hard, very straight, they don't bend, and they seem to hold up very well. I painted them blaze-orange to make them easier to see when roto-scoping. I'm just wondering if there is some reason why no one else seems to use wood.

@GeniusTwisted Probably because wood is heavier than pvc and aluminium. Remember that the light in a lightsaber doesn't weigh anything ;)

one good site I've found is the Big Yellow Box. It has eight styles of light saber hilts that can be used and are easy to put together. And for the blade effect, just search here on youtube for Lightsaber Tutorial.

Mr. Wieber uses adobe after effects from what i remember, CS3, witch is extremely expensive but i here people know how to jack it for free from online, (try there crap at your own risk, getting that online is extremely illegal, because its like 500 bucks, i think) but if your a beginner i recommend LSMaker, witch was made by a dude who wants it to be free online, its easy, but crappy.

Thanks a million man. My local hardware store didn't have the exact pieces that you used so I had to improvise a little, but I just finished fitting two carbon fiber rods into the toy sabers.

Oh yeah, just something to put out for others in case you're wondering. If you'll remember, there used to be a "custom lightsaber" kit sold in stores. This also works for those and it lets you add a little bit to it by customizing your saber.
