  • just watched this film and nearly cried!! not at the ending....at the music - it's incredible!!

    you don't hear this music................

    you feel it!!!

    peace out. xxxxx

  • Someone said - there is no mor beautiful intrument than the human voice. Greetings from Bulgaria to all children of God!

  • SIMPLY THE MOST INCREDIBLE SOUND EVER!! Touches your heart and reaches your very SOUL! simply beautiful!

  • thank you for putting all these songs to one video

  • Soldiers. They replaced the Marines there.

  • @punipunipunisher The Marines fought for 3 months straight by themselves. I am guessing this film is based on the 23rd Infantry Division, sent there for "mop up" operations.

  • @StonewallJackson26 Some "mop up" it was :)

But yeah, the Japanese forces who had survived the Marines were exhuasted by fatigue, hunger and disease (compare with the new Japanese troops at the end of the film).

There's a cool unused scene in the film featuring a crazed Marine sniper who has stayed behind to fight his own war along with his native guide, and this guy looks as bad as those Japs. He was played by Mickey Rourke.

  • @punipunipunisher I wonder when they'll ever come out with the Directors Cut. I would love to see what that has to offer. The Navy was defeated originally around Guatalcanal in the campaigns initial phases, and was forced to vacate the landing zones. So the Marines also fought without being resupplied.

  • @StonewallJackson26 This scene is on Youtube as "DELETED SCENE FROM THIN RED LINE (WITH MICKEY ROURKE)".

  • @punipunipunisher Thanks man :)

  • I am alive! I am alive! I am alive! that's how this makes me feel. I picture the shitty council estate in Plymouth England where I grew up, now I work in Hong Kong as a radiographer. Beleive in yourself people you are alive!

  • I'm trying to be a movie maker ( actor, director...) When I was younger I didn't like this movie cuz there was no action in it. But now it's one of the best war movies I have ever seen. I would like to do a movie like that... probably placed in Nam.

  • @Smilinginmygrave You'll need to learn to spell properly first.

  • @xXStandAndDeliverXx What was wrong with his spelling, other than 'cuz'? Really, man, it's christmas eve, don't be an asshole...

And Merry X-mas to you lol

  • @juanjillocr You too :)

  • @xXStandAndDeliverXx sry I'm from a nonenglish speaking country and I wrote that right before I went to bed... so yeah i know

  • Precioso, bello, hermoso.

  • Gee this takes me back to my childhood, Igam barracks lae 1973. Would often get to hear such beautiful melanesian music.

  • My Grandfather, a highly decorted Infatry Soldier, related in his last days this Movie is the "most disturbingly accurate war movie I have seen...of my time in Pacific Hell"

  • This is missionary music, not indigenous, I think. I've heard precisely the same harmonies among the Black Lahu in northern Thailand.

  • @pleroma You are correct about this, very similar - if not the same - to Lahu.

Overwhelming sessions standing next so such a choir & to undergo the emotional waves of sound for a westerner such as myself, being of sober clear-cut flemish upbringing ...

  • Several roman contemporary chroniqeurs would disagree with you on the fictional part there. :)

  • awesome choir God bless all thank you to all the vet soldiers who fought for my freedome.

  • Besides, Jesus actually did go to war. He was born specifially for that purpose. He fought the Devil, and died in battle, for us. He bought our freedom, and payed with His life.

Just like all those soldiers from America, from Australia, from Africa who came to fight and die for us in faraway Europe and the Pacific.

  • @carolineleiden Shut up. Leave Jesus out of this and stop forcing religion onto people.

  • @carolineleiden fictional characters cannot go to war

  • Before they do, let me make it very clear that I am a Catholic and did not intend to put Jesus (or Jim) down. :)

  • James Jones book The Thin Red Line...1957

    Great movie

  • Strange to see Jesus Christ in a soldiers uniform. (Jim Caviezel)

  • @carolineleiden before you get pounced on by religious trolls...i must say that's a really insightful comment.

  • @carolineleiden No, Witt was soldier first, was K.I.A. and then resurrected from the dead to become Jesus christ

  • Magnifique musique pour un superbe film . <3

  • Oh my God...Give this movie to a regular teenager, and he says: ugh...1999...bad quality...But shit...I am 14 years old, saw and understood this movie completely...To be honest, it's better than any modern movie I ever saw...So dramatic...music makes it...so...crymaking...(??)

  • @Fallschirmjaeger963 I am a teenager and I have to say that I agree with you completely. There is only one person in my whole class that had heard of this film, that annoyed me.

  • @MGSmucker64 those kids need to get a life ;d

  • @MGSmucker64 unfortunately, same story in my class...nobody knows this piece of art, only 2...me, and another one...indeed, very annoying...

  • @Fallschirmjaeger963 Thanks, I'm glad to know that there are people my age that understand a good classic when they see one.

  • It's happy that someone noticed it and Thank you for your response and kindly sharing of all...

i got many Questioning and Considering and also War-shadows... i have many Dreams and Hopes... just similar as [the Thin Red Line] ~ youtube =iU9X9WS0u_8

    you may find me on blog-udn-com_cloudii (- = .) (_ = /)

    Have a nice day ;-D

  • the Melanesian Black-people singing and Source-nature scenes IMpressed me !!

to make a self-examination and ask why start a war easily ?

the Melanesian win us as high-material society...

  • 1999 - Best movie about the effects and trauma of war in the hearts, minds and total psyche of a soldier or Marine ever made. While the movie's backdrop is the Battle of Guadalcanal WW2, it is rather the background narrative voice representing what the Marines think, feel, yearn four and fear, whilst in the heat of battle, that makes this a must-see movie for anyone wishing to understand the trauma that goes with fighting in a war. As a bonus, some of the most enchanting music you may ever hear..

  • @louismarinier My Grandfather would have jumped his seat in USMC v US Army rival :) The characters / men presented are US Army. The Army had far more Divisions in the Pacific, more lives lost. The USMC was given media attention in the Pacific due to many spearheading operations (true heroes as it is). The Army was given credit beyond, as 'stars' of the European Campaign. The 96th Infantry Division alone lost over 10,000 Soldiers in two Island Campaigns, including Okinawa.
