  • cummins has been around for a while so lots of parts for it, and its a good engine but dmax just got here and already dominates every type of diesel motorsport! that tells you something about the engine!

    You are correct about the powerstroke being built by navistar up until 2011. I figured anyone leaving comments on this forum would now that Ford has ended their contract with navistar. They are now building and designing the new powerstroke in house. Ford built ford engineered and ford designed all in house. I might add the first company to do this. As far as the duramax goes chevy couldn't build a good diesel remember the 6.2 and 6.5.

Any company even government motors can take a good base and make a few tweaks here and there and make it better. So depending what year we are talking about the powerstroke is built by navistar. For those of you who dont know this is no longer the case. ford hasnt built their own diesel since the 6.9 and that was a damn good diesel. Also

  • Also at least ford didnt run across seas when they had trouble with navistar once again not a ford built powerstroke. Dodge just got 53% of their shares bought by Fiat correct. Also I think the cummins is the best as of now but now way in hell is it worth owning the piece of shit around it. Pretty sad when ford 6.0 and 6.4 were terds and still #1 selling whats that saying about the others.

When I lived in NY every wanna be big guy from the city would show up at my sales lot in a big Chevy or Ford diesel. Most of those trucks never even saw a gravel road much less off roading. I know Chevy and Ford are both ok and have their place but you must be a city slicker to think that Dodges are pretty boy trucks... LMHO

Have you ever noticed in the dodge diesel commercials they never dis on chevy? they only dis of ford because ford is fail. Don't get me wrong the cummins is a GREAT engine but so is a duramax. I just choose duramax because Gm is what I was raised around and I really do not like the dodge body style.

Seriously, who in their right mind would replace the transmission 6 times and still not realize that the cummins is not only too powerful for the transmission but the transmission is too weak for anything. I FEEL, that the duramax allison combo has what i need in reliibility and and over all performance (i own an 04.5) something i can mod slowly and dont have to worry about throwing a transmission into. If i ever get the $ and time, i will deffinately get a 06 or 07 5.9 cummins for my project truck

  • @fastvwg60 A Cummins 5.9 24 valve eng (i like the 5.9 it has proven it is near perfect vs the 6.7 i feel is too new to completely trust) in a Chevy bod/interior/ suspension with a Ford frame/axel/drive shaft and a freightliners AMT3 8 speed trans. I feel that would be the perfect diesel truck. I think that chevy has the most comfortible interior, and i like the body style as well,

  • @fastvwg60 JUST THROWING NUMBERS OUT THERE, but the 2011 cummins is only rated to pul 18900 pounds, the 2011 duramax is rated at 21700 and the 2011 powerstroke is rated at 22100. yeah not everyone who buys a diesel is going to be pulling the max tow rateing all day everyday but when your competition is pulling over one ton more than you, it is kind of sad

I used to buy nothing but Chevys at one point, but when I drove the first Dodge Cummins I was convinced that it was all the pick up I could ever need, and the weak Chevy 6.2 diesel had nothing for this beast. Ford almost got it right but their twin I beam suspension was trash and their body style well is not my favorite.

  • @fastvwg60 They could have gone with the Aisin AS68RC 6 speed they use in the 3500, 4500, and 5500 chassis- cabs, but they for some unknown reason choose to go with the 68RFE, big mistake, once again dumbing down the pure potential of the cummins. It seems to be a trend though cause in 03 dodge had the oportunity to go with the allison 1000 trans and dumped that idea also, which then gave Chevy the edge over dodge. (continued above)

  • @cbsmoraine The only reason the 47 RE trannys were weak is because the factory sacrifices power for smoother shifts., I don't agree with that, but then again I don't make the decisions for Chrysler, if it were up to me I would make the tranny shift like that of a dump truck, because after all it is a fucking truck. Anybody with a little sence knows that they can build a sturdy 47 RE tranny for not alot of money and paired with the Cummins there is no other fucking pick up that can touch it !!

The manuel transmissions dodge offered came close to unlocking they pure cummins ability, but on the other hand the automatic trans that dodge offered cause them to dumb down the cummins.   • anyone notice how the duramax didnt let his turbo spool up a little? and he shifted second. most duramax's pull in 4 high 1st gear if there mostly stock. dodge let his turbo spool a bit then held first. unless i didnt hear a shift. but round here duramax wins. no doubt. every pull. and that gold bowtie wins most other classes too. im not downing cummins. but nothing compares to a dirty durmy. then ford is over there with there power joke.

    Yeah the 6.0 is the werst but the 7.3 International Power Stroke is bulletproof. Cummins works better in Fords than it does Dodges LOL. Ford still has the highest stake in Cummins and ther history goes back further than any other manufacturer.

  • Durmax is a car like v8, the Cummings is a truck like iline 6. To rebuild the cummings you replace the sleaves, like on a semi. On the durmax you have to bore it out.

  • Ha Ha, Well that was because I had to take all my work stuff off in order to match the GMCs weight. He had all his tools in the back seat as well. I have a rack just like his with crossover toolbox. I had to take everything off including spare tire, tailgate, and empty the inside of the truck to get my weight down to 7200 lbs. Dodges are much heavier then GMs. No front axle and aluminum heads make a big diff on the GMC

  • throw a programer on it. got an 08 2500hd silverado. put a 10 stage programer on it, mbrp dual exhaust, and cut the airbox on it. its got about 720 hp now only on stage 5 with the programer believe it or not. any higher, the gears will tear themselves apart and it'll blow the heads

  • Sorry I don't have the printout anymore but you can ask Schied diesel from IN or Mid Atlantic Diesel Performance in MD and they could verify it. They both worked on the truck. Mid Atlantic actually thought my CP3 is the only reason I'm not over 600.

  • @ramdslpwr I known someone with the same truck, smarty, ats trans, ats twin turbo and ats twin cp3s dyno'd just over 600 at the wheels but he cant keep the engine together. great trucks Ive owned a 07 with a 5.9 in it but im in a 08 duramax now. owned many duramaxs and do have to say the are the fastest trucks in stock for with minor mods. intake, ppe tune or efi live and exhuast. My 08 dyno'd 518rwhp with efi live, intake,air dog, and 4" mbrp exhaust

  • im a dodge man dont get me wrong but i call bs that the dodge has all kinds of classified stuff? it doesnt smoke none that i can see and it doesent even sound mean? its a nice truck but come one now your pulling against a p.o.s to begin with

  • these people on here are fucking funny. then how is it that my truck is only supposed to pull 12K lbs, but when i pull im the last to go in my class because im running a 2003 3/4HD silverado 6.6 diesel, EFI live and a K&N mass flow pipe, im pulling 14K 400 ft. brag when you can do that. the cummins that tried got 225.46 ft and the powerstroke got 224.87 ft.. so far im top in my class.

  • Banks provides better performance as it is, so the only way to have a full comparison pull would for them both to be either extended or crew cabs and both with same packages from after-market providers. GM has always worked with Banks and they are a good after-market to buy from. They have always made our trucks even better when it comes to performance.

  • Well then I'd have to use the HO Cummins as well. Apples to apples, the're both 04 trucks. Yeah I got more then him, but if they both were just tuner-intake-exhaust, the Dodge would win. Dodge is heavier and weight means a lot in pulling. You guys with your brand loyalty are so stupid. Take a truck and thro 20 k into it and it will beat th guy with a tuner. then take another truck and put 80k into it. regardless of make it will beat the other guy. Money talks in power builds.

  • That being said, Dodge is still the most popular truck at pulling events. And the old 12 valve is the hottest engine. You will never beat the inline 6 design for a seriously built engine.

  • Im not talkin about how much money you can put in them. Your Banks Big Hoss has intercooler, wastegate, chip, exhaust, high ram and ram air. the dmax just has chip exhuast and intake. Put the Banks Big Hoss on the dmax and see who does what then. Make them even. If you take them to stock let it be but dont put more in the dodge and say its better.

  • I really dont agree with your tuner-intake-exhasut statement. Slap efi live on the dmax with stock intake, and stock exhaust (but take the muffler off) and the dmax is gonna make a lot more power then the dodge, unless u put a smarty stacked with an edge drag comp on the dodge...then things would be a little closer. Take an 06 cummins stock against a stock 06 dmax on the strip or the drag strip and i will bet my money on the dmax. But the 12 valve is the ultimate engine...built up.

  • i'm not saying dodge has the best all around diesel but cummins is by far the best engine period and 99.9% of people who know diesel trucks would agree with me on that... personally if you put a cummins engine in a powerstroke you have one hell of a truck
