Badass Trailer! It makes it really, really, really interesting and the movie rocks! But the books is still better. But this movie is made a little bit more "futuristic and unrealistic" than the books... But still: It keeps true to the book really much!

I appreciate your opinion and there are points to your argument, but the stereotype is unfair and uncalled for. Your generalization of "christians" encompasses a multitude of denominations each holding their own separate ideals. People have a right to their beliefs, Christians or otherwise, and not be insulted because of them. If you want to watch a movie (or read a book), do it. And never mind what others think of it.
Generalizing is all the Christians do. It makes me sick thinking about all the hell, and all the Native Americans that are dead, also witches, and so on just because of Christianity. No one is aloud to have an insight on things but them, that's why they have had people killed in the past. That's exactly what happened with this movie- they tried to ruin it so no one would go to see it- they wanted to boycott it. The movie in it's own way is saying, this is what the magisterium do -
It is a shame that as soon as a child is born- people want to shove Christianity down their throat without letting them discover things on their own. It is brainwashing. These Christians are so afraid of people looking for themselves and not having some one tell you what you should believe. All they want to do is call everything evil. When they are the evil.
...that doesn't make sense. 1)You're generalizing every Christian in the entire world with the mistakes of a select few, who actually only became Christian to gain power and thus cannot be considered prime examples. 2) Everything? Even God? Be careful with your qualifiers there.
It's best that you know something fully before you draw conclusions about them. Otherwise they reflect ignorance and simple-mindedness.
I know... give a baby a chance to see which religion it wants to take. I have no religion and I respect other religions. This movie was pretty good :)
THIS MOVIE WAS GREAT! Don't let dumb people suppress you. They want you to be dumb. They want you to be blind. Christianity is a cult - the biggest cult ever. You don't have to follow the sheeple. These Christians are hypocrites. People need to wake up.
As leaders of Christianity, church people, have to fear the God (or justice, or whatever it is up there that keeps us the way we are). Because, how can they sell moral to anyoneelse, when they own the banks in Switzerland and allower the world, AND FROM WHAT MONEY, from a charitty they got on a sunday mass (yeah, shure), and what about the pedofiliy???
for crying ot loud, IT'S JUST A FERYTALE! If you don't get it, than you have never been a child(at least the one with imagination). Anyone that has a littlebit of common sense in their head, knows that this movie is about purity of children's soul, loyalty, the importancy of friendship,...etc.
I'm a Christian and a believer, but I don't believe in institution of church, because they have to clean the mess infront of their door first and than to throw the stone on somebodyelse.
Excuse me.. I'm a Christian. I'm not saying that atheists should be out of these world or anything but may i ask, "what did we do wrong?".. Why do u keep on saying that our God is not true. Why us? There are other religions, too, you know. And besides, if you believe that our God is not true then live with it! Killing God won't stop you from us believing in him! If he is not true to your faith, fine.Nothing will happen if you keep on killing Him. What did He ever do to you?
I'm Atheist. I never said anything about killing God. I'm just saying I don't want to be involved in baptizing and brainwashing people to believe in it.
Since WHEN is Iofur's name Ragnar? Why does the movie not include the last chapter of the first book, even when obvious ending footage was released in extended preview clips? Why the hell did Billy Costa turn into Tony? That and the curious order of significant events in the movie means they have some explaining to do.
You people are idiots. All you people live for is the next idiotic and immoral piece of crap that Atheist Jew Hollywood squats and shits out its ass!! They just love all their little addicted idiots forking over their parents money! You people need to get a life!!
The author is an atheist and wrote His Dark Materials as a response to CS Lewis' books. They were really good. I feel like its Harry Potter again, good intention, but just too much content to put into a movie script.
I find it rather irritating that the previews practically tell the story themselves. I mean, all the scenes in this and all the other previews I've seen are in the same order as they are in the book, and their all the major scenes.. :\
I don't understand : I went to see the film today and some scenes that can be seen in this preview were missing! I was really waiting for the scene at the very end of the book, when Mrs Coulter and Lord Asriel meet! I'm disappointed it didn't appear!
On October 9, 2007, Weitz revealed that the final three chapters from The Golden Compass will be moved to The Subtle Knife to provide "the most promising conclusion to the first film and the best possible beginning to the second."

A message to all christians: All of you who are saying go ahead and see this movie, God won't punish you, etc... Stop making excuses. Seriously. You know that this movie is anti-christian. You know this story was made to promote anti-christian beliefs. You know what God would want you to do. Is it really so hard to do?
If you can't enjoy a book simply because of religion, that's your problem. I myself am Christian and for me to make the movie all the more enjoyable i think of it as a scifi or fantasy novel (cause that's exactly what it is) and also this story takes place in a different world, and different worlds may have different religions. So just think of it like that. It really is a great trilogy, and I hope you all enjoy it.
woh woh woh, wait a minute. so christians can release films and books about their ideas that may not apply 2 an atheist and thats ok but as soon as something atheist appears then its not allowed and the whole story has 2 be altered because its offensive. So basically we can only watch what we are allowed to watch...very christian

Who cares what the author's intent was when he wrote the books? I'm a Christian (who isn't always fond of church institutions, seeing them as just as flawed every other human creation-- faith and church aren't the same thing)and I read and adored the books, and I'm really excited to see this movie. It looks like they did a really good job with it.
I admit I'm not familiar with the books, but the end of that extended trailer mentiones that the Majesterium want to control every world, and every universe... so what? They don't exactly come over as a frightening force. All we've seen so far were blimps and bolt action rifles. If they came through near the north pole the Russians would probably nuke spam them just for the hell of it.
Actually I pretty much said that wrong. Agnosticism means that while things like the afterlife and god are possible,we still have no way of knowing what it could possibly be like. In Phillip Pullmans case he probably believes in a god and souls, but has no way of explaining them. The bible pretty much tells you what heaven and what god is like.
He says on his website he doesn't believe in a god, but although if there was one he/she/it is hiding away because they're ashamed of the horrible things done in their name.

He is agnostic meaning he believes in a god but he doesn't believe in the judeo-Christian Islamic-god. He thinks that god is evil and manipulative in nature.

some1 explain this to me, how could some1 like Pullman who is an athiest believe in souls but he doesnt believe in GOD? Athiesm is so such BS. if the daemons are suppose to be the very soul of a person, how could you not believe in GOD then, but clearly believe in the soul? some1 please explain this to me
It's entirely possible to believe in a soul without buying into the Judeo-Christian deity archetype (that of a patriarchal, controlling maniac who commits genocide over perceived ego slights.)
"some1 explain this to me, how could some1 like Pullman who is an athiest believe in souls but he doesnt believe in GOD? Athiesm is so such BS. if the daemons are suppose to be the very soul of a person, how could you not believe in GOD then"
What makes you say he believes in souls? Because they are a part of his fictional story?
I'm pretty sure he doesn't believe in talking armored bears, they're in the story too.
Do you need the difference between reality and imagination explained to you?
so let me get this straight...the majesterium is suppose to be seen ast the vatican right? and the majesterium (vatican) wants to control all of humanity?
so...what? the real "majesterium" doesnt want to control the world, the majesterium could be any political power, it could be the US government.
must not be enough violent video games to target or something.. jeez.. when i want religion to run my life.. i'll have some supreme deity tell me himself.. not some crazy saying he's the word of god or some book who no one can even prove a bit of
why would they call this heresy? was it written by the pope or a high ranking priest or something? its a FANTASY novel/movie.. no ones saying its the truth.. might as well just attack the whole fantasy genre.. and their own book while they're at it
Now why couldn't a movie like this come out when i was a kid?.. Or book for that matter? I remember growing up reading C.S. Lewis. Even though i enjoyed the books i remember thinking that there was something fundamentally wrong with me for being skeptical, trusting science, and lacking faith in the supernatural.
I'm just glad that we are entering at time where skepticism and humanist values can be portrayed in a positive light and in a kids movie no less! Hopefully, this movie will be well received from the faithful and skeptical alike... But maybe that's wishful thinking.

were electrons existent before people could see them? people have had experiences with God but you need the right spiritual equipment; just like I need tools to see electrons for myself.
No scientific formula can DISprove God's existence at this point. Why don't we just settle at you believe what you want to believe, and I believe what I want to believe?
The -author- himself says it's about killing God. It's my right to boycott such an author and encourage others to do so.
How can someone skip reading a book because of this? How can anyone do or don't do anything in the name of a so doubtful thing that is god? And how can someone try to "encourage others" to do the same? If you want to believe, believe for you, and keep it. No one wants to know your beliefs...
i'm only a little past halfway through the second book (the subtle knife), but i feel like it's not the same stroy as the first. the gyptians, iorek, and even mrs.coutlier and lord asriel aren't really in it so far. reading the seconds a givin if you've read the end of the first. (i didn't really like the ending. i wanted lyra and lord asriel to go on some sort of father-daughter mission, or atleast be happy with eachother!) i miss the mideval fantasy adventure that was the first!
Anti-christain!! dont read these books or see the movies! they kill God in the end. it is a very terrible thing that an auther would try to influnence kids into making them beleive that God isnt real. its just terrible
These books are brilliant. When Satan fell he said, 'better ruler of hell than slave in heaven'
And Pullman's books have a lot of this idea in them but he portrays God as someone who has lost control and it is others acting in God's name (not God) that seek to enslave us.
The original sin is what set us free from slavery in Eden. The hole from the land of the dead is like eating the fruit of immortality - that which God denied us.
religion taken out hmmmm wots the point of the film then! a. its just a film b. wot r the religious people worried about. kind of funny that part of the story is about religious tyranny aganst free will. if u dont lke it dont watch it!!!
without the church i dnno if it will be even close to as good as the books, but whatever, YAY DEAMONS WOO =) i can't wait to see iorek im so flipping excited
i dont understand y all the church stuff in this is causin such a fuss among religious ppl, im christian n i freakin LUV the books!!! and neway theyr fictional stories so wot duz it mattr?
movie looks awesome!! hope it lives up to the hype! bin waitin a looong time for it!
i loving what the movie looks like hope it's as good as the book, but i still think the last book has a sad ending :'( Do you guys think that it was a sad ending?

It is a shame that as soon as a child is born- people want to shove Christianity down their throat without letting them discover things on their own. It is brainwashing. These Christians are so afraid of people looking for themselves and not having some one tell you what you should believe. All they want to do is call everything evil. When they are the evil.
AngelDawn 4 years ago 6
Everyone knows the author is not religous right... There are over tones but he wrote the books as a bit of a slap in the face to the church.
111Zaja 4 years ago
...that doesn't make sense.
Eruaphadriel 4 years ago 2
i totally agree here. generalizations are very dangerous. it's what starts racism, sexism, and other discrimination. it's wrong.

Because, how can they sell moral to anyoneelse, when they own the banks in Switzerland and allower the world, AND FROM WHAT MONEY, from a charitty they got on a sunday mass (yeah, shure), and what about the pedofiliy???
istheresomething 4 years ago
for crying ot loud, IT'S JUST A FERYTALE!

The author is an atheist and wrote His Dark Materials as a response to CS Lewis' books. They were really good. I feel like its Harry Potter again, good intention, but just too much content to put into a movie script.

I don't understand : I went to see the film today and some scenes that can be seen in this preview were missing! I was really waiting for the scene at the very end of the book, when Mrs Coulter and Lord Asriel meet! I'm disappointed it didn't appear!

(btw, this preview was AWESOME! Thank you! =] )

woh woh woh, wait a minute. so christians can release films and books about their ideas that may not apply 2 an atheist and thats ok but as soon as something atheist appears then its not allowed and the whole story has 2 be altered because its offensive.

It looks like they did a really good job with it.
baumsy18 4 years ago 6
I admit I'm not familiar with the books, but the end of that extended trailer mentiones that the Majesterium want to control every world, and every universe... so what? They don't exactly come over as a frightening force. All we've seen so far were blimps and bolt action rifles. If they came through near the north pole the Russians would probably nuke spam them just for the hell of it.
WiredDragoon 4 years ago
I like that this actually tells you what the plot is. The other trailers and tv spots just show the action shots but none of the story.

Actually I pretty much said that wrong. Agnosticism means that while things like the afterlife and god are possible,we still have no way of knowing what it could possibly be like. In Phillip Pullmans case he probably believes in a god and souls, but has no way of explaining them. The bible pretty much tells you what heaven and what god is like.
esco6017 4 years ago
He says on his website he doesn't believe in a god, but although if there was one he/she/it is hiding away because they're ashamed of the horrible things done in their name.

some1 explain this to me, how could some1 like Pullman who is an athiest believe in souls but he doesnt believe in GOD? Athiesm is so such BS. if the daemons are suppose to be the very soul of a person, how could you not believe in GOD then, but clearly believe in the soul? some1 please explain this to me
Tallacus 4 years ago

StealthDonkey007 4 years ago
Do you need Pullman to belive in god, to write a fictional book? It has nothing to do with god.

I agree. It has nothing to do with God. It's just a good movie to watch.

so let me get this straight...the majesterium is suppose to be seen ast the vatican right? and the majesterium (vatican) wants to control all of humanity?
so...what? the real "majesterium" doesnt want to control the world, the majesterium could be any political power, it could be the US government.

Now why couldn't a movie like this come out when i was a kid?.. Or book for that matter? I remember growing up reading C.S. Lewis. Even though i enjoyed the books i remember thinking that there was something fundamentally wrong with me for being skeptical, trusting science, and lacking faith in the supernatural.
wulf8121 4 years ago 2
