i remember the trouble i had with this on a slim PS2 it was bloody murder, yet with a fattie it was a doddle (with the max media player obviously) not bad but my PS2 isnt reading anything and the only game i have on my USB HDD is killzone and its getting boring now :(

This program works 100% .I tested on 3 consoles PS2 SCPH 30004-PAL,SCPH-50004(fat models) and works.Lasers are dead on that consoles and with combination with usb pen,when you convert games with usb xtreme program,with ps2 loader starting games without work with laser ps2.

On model SCPH-77004-slim work off course,like other consoles.Instal must be Multi for all consoles,and this work if you dont have modchip in ps2.

@MrHotrod68 FREEMCBOOT is a memorycard application which you install with a certin game. like 007 Agent Under Fire, and swapmod it with a hacked version plug in ur USB Drive and hack the memorycard.

your method worked great man, the only thing is, is that i have to have fceu.elf as the only thing on my flash drive. then i have to run it and then take the flash drive out put free mcboot on and then use it. other than that it works 100% perfect

Mcboot is better than having a chip inside a ps2 becouse if your ps2 breaks or something you can sell the card which has the mcboot inside it or buy a used ps2 without anything for a few bucks but the card in and PLAY

@superjeoma if your system has a mod chip, you do NOT need fmcb. if you must use ulaunchelf. try burning into cd with a slower burn speed or place it in a thumb drive

I figured you may know this so I decided to ask. How do you add files to the free mcboot menu? I already have my apps installed, and they are on the memory card, but they do not appear on the menu(browser, System Config, Ulaunch, ESR, etc.) How does one go about adding files there as I eant to add FCEU, SNES 9x, and Open PS2 Loader, they were in my install folder but didn't show up in my final install(when I boot the ps2).

@ExtremeYoshiFan use the Ulaunchelf program, it should already be on your list, since you installed it as BOOT.ELF. there, you can set default paths to applications, you can also move files around.

its best if you buy a dedicated memory card for the mod, preferably a big card like the nyko 32mb or the ones from itec. Memory cards for ps2 are so inexpensive now that it should not be prohibitive

Is a format of your memory card required to install, I have a 16mb card with my saves on it(about 6 meg free) and want to install free MC Boot on it, but it is my only card and I don't want to delete all my saves(although I will not be installing with FCEU, I am using MGS3), can you do an install on top of save files? @onailculThemaster try a different thumb drive, remember that the PS2 is USB1.1, old thumbdrives from the early 2000's work best. if you cant find an old drive, just use the smallest capacity one you can find, under 1gb work best.

I have tried different Flash drives: 256MB 1GB and 2GB. The biggest one works best.

I suppose that you try as many different drives as possible until it works for you.

Also, it worked for me on one console, while the other refused. So changing consoles might be an option as well if you have access to another PS2.

Keep in mind that Free McBoot takes around 3 MB of free space on your MemCard!

I have been taken a crack at this with no luck. any feedback would be awesome! I have swap magic 3.6 cd &dvd a 1gb toshiba usb drive and a original 8mb(empty) sony mc. this is the instructions i have followed from sks apps noobie guide Copy the INSTALL folder and the FREE_MCBOOT.ELF to your USB device or into your CD compilation, depending on your chosen Boot method for the installer. ie: swapmagic,AR max. so after i put the files on my usb and boot up swapmagic cd. what then? please help : )

swap magic is a much simpler method than armax, what you need to do is save free_mcboot.elf along with all the other elfs as per my video. create a folder called SWAPMAGIC Copy boot.elf to it and rename to SWAPMAGIC.ELF. insert both MC and thumb drive, start swap magic. ulaunch elf should start automatically, you can run free mcboot installer from there. check my video description for a link to swap magic tutorial

fmcb will only install the loader, you need to get the additional elfs and specify their locations in ulaunch.elf for them to show up on the menu
