and there it is.... we all are self... but what is self... is there one self? people may have.... "expressed" this philosophy as self too hard... trying to be spontaneous is still rigid. Peace and love
martial arts is a language, but like any language you must take the alphebet (techniques) and create words (a collection of techniques). once you have these fundamentals you can create your own sentences, paragraphs, and quotes (forms), but you must learn the basics first. you must know the abc's of what ever it is that you love. once this is astablished you may take the element of your art and express your inner nature. this goes for all things in life. we are the water that is formless.
You can tell that guy was racist. Bruce was talking about one family but we are all different. Then, Bruce was cut off because that knowledge didn't sit right with the host. Look at his eyes...
@yurushii I was just about to post the same thing. Ya I know I'm white, but that guy ate mayo out of the jar. There seemed to be a lack of respect from the host
Having been a student of T'ai chi ch'uan, Wing Chun, and Bruce Lee's own Jeet Kune Do for over 30 years, I must say that I find the poster's interpretation of Bruce Lee's words in this interview offensive.
Bruce Lee was not talking about your narrow view of Christianity and Religion... in fact, Bruce Lee struggled with spirituality his entire life, and never found all of the answers he sought.
There is nothing worse than "Christians" trying to force their dogma into other's lives. Disgusting.
Bruce lee wasnt just talking about different fighting styles he also was talking about the racism going on in that era... when he starts talking about expressing ur self and how powerful words are was probably what he had to deal with in Chine and here.remember this wasnt 2011 and there still racism today. listen to the last part right before he was cut off.
The end of the interview was disrespectful. It is because of the inferior complex of the old guy. It was very transparent that the old guy does not had the level of understanding that Bruce had. The guy is similar to an Amoeba (a lower form of life!!) if compared to Bruce. It is our privilege that we hear his deep and very useful realizations that he got through his lifetime experiences and understandings while answering a fool's so many idiotic questions.
this video was taken way out of context, he was not talking about religious worship but fighting styles and how they separate fighters because they take them so seriously.
bruce lee is one of a kind. i will disagree with him that expressing oneself is hard to do. i think it is very had in certain cultures, ones where we're taught to perform and acting is worshiped. there are many cultures that naturally support honest expression. i'd argue that there's overall more collective energy teaching our children to be false and put on a show than there is in an individual trying to unlearn what society has taught her or him
@OmegaOwA It is because of the inferior complex of the guy...I watched the interviews and the it is very transparent that the old guy does not had the level of understanding that Bruce had. All the credits go to Bruce and it is our privilege that we hear his deep and very useful realizations that he got through his lifetime experience and understanding while answering a fool's many idiotic questions.
@shuyin131 I was struck by that, too. It could just be my imagination, but after Bruce introduced the idea that "under the sky, we are just one family", the announcer seemed to be in a real hurry to end the interview.
Empty your mind beforemnce shapeles like the water you put water into a cup it becomes the cup you put water into a bottle it becomes the bottle you put it in a tea pot it becomes the teapot EPIC
Thanks for sharing your insight, mechapigman. It's even more interesting considering that his philosophy, in some respects, is how many modern worship leaders try to approach worship. They don't want to get bogged down by man-made systems. The word "religion" is almost a dirty word among many.
@mechapigman and his son died from a movie set gun....never heard of anything like that ever nor will I ever again in my life time, another 80 years im hoping. His answer is correct, he does not follow any religion but that question had nothing to do with where his faith lies. Religion is a waste of time if you ask me, no book or mortal can influence your 1on1 relationship with the lord, whoever he is. All men are sinners so to let a sinner influence your faith is a re direct, ploy of the devil
@mechapigman Many Chinese don't believe in God. China is after all an athiest nation under the Government, not to count out the many religions that are in China. I pray that they all will know God before they leave this place.
His philiosophy was to honestly express yourself in every aspect of life. He never lived his life by a system, whether it be religion or martial arts. He said systems are what limit you as a human being.
Bruce Lee was the man! Nice editing job Darren. He was deep in this interview. One could only hope/wish that he was talking inadvertently about worshipping God. Nonetheless, great vid. We could actually approach worship in the way he was talking about

It's interesting Jesus said i am the way and the truth. Bruce lee went after the truth.
He might not believe in god, but he believes in truth and the truth could be god.

I think Bruce was once quoted "If there is a God, you shouldn't ask him for things" Not sure if it's exact but you get the idea.

When asked by journalist Alex Ben Block in the summer of 1972 what his religious affiliation was, Lee answered: 'None whatsoever.'
Block then pressed him further, asking him if he then believed in God: 'To be perfectly frank, I really do not.'
