I am amased that the americans never mention the roll of the french in the 1776 civil war. washington was once a officer in the war against the French. He fought on the British side. The war against the French cost a lot of money and the British subjects in America did not want to pay for the war. No change there then
@chad24ist Read about the siege of Savannah, a debacle for the Americans largely because of a decision by Admiral D'Estaing to make a frontal assault on British fortified positions. Also, French support of the American force besieging Newport was not significant, and the decision of the French to withdraw their fleet from Newport had a bad effect on the morale of the American forces. French support did not achieve anything until the siege of Yorktown.
a lot of shit being chatted on this video, simple fact is america can poke there flag up there arse hole till it bleeds they won a country that wasn't there's to take due to most of the empires forces deployed world wide, but its ok you know Britain had the rest of the world the sun never set on the British empire, from Hong Kong to Jamaica from India to Australia and what is truly ironic is that Americans are fundamentally British and Irish colonists... gj slagging your ancestors of
Yeah we lost the war against you, but in 1812 we came back with an army of natives and we burned down the white house. The score is 1:1. Now we are equal. Good
@TheHenrySavage The Army which captured Washington and burned the White House were British Army regular troops. Google "The Burning of Washington if you don't believe me. Incidentally, the burning of Washington had no effect on the outcome of the war.
Btw,,, if it werent for Finland and Mannerheim , who refused to join in on the all out assault on Russia , refused to relieve the German forces who laid seige to Leningrad, you would all be F**cked...because if he would have, The Germans most certianly woul have won at Stalingrad, and then continued to defeat the whole red army, god luck with your D-Day after that,, so thank the Finns,, not the americans,,
why are there people arguing about the second World War here? I don't see any connection to this video. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I bevlieve the last war the Redocats were involved in was WWI.
I actually only came here for the music, do you trolls really have to ruin everything?
@Narjoso as a matter of fact, they all did and to some extent still do, but only during ceremonies and parades. Also some police units still are nicknamed redcoats. However, during WWI the use of camouflage became popular for obvious reasons, therefore the soldiers can't be called redcoats anymore.
In addition to that, you seem to ignore the obvious fact, that the term "redcoat" is a proper name.
@Narjoso as a matter of fact, they did. To some extent thes also still do and some police units are nicknamed redcoats as well. However since camouflage became popular during WWI for obvious reasons, the soldiers can't be called redcoats anymore.
Also you don't seem to notice that the term "Redcoat" is a proper name.
I wouldn't take Tom Hanks and Ted Danson too seriously. Monty will be remembered long after they are forgotten. After all, they are only Hollywood actors, and only their movies will be remembered. El Alamein will be remembered forever.
Nice March. I cant imagine fighting like this nowadays. Whats all this fighting over ww2. Just read up on history so you know what your talking about please, and keep the personal crap to yourself.
Thanks for this! I grew up 25 miles from Louisbourg- my Dad did much of the early diving there in the harbour. The family cottage is on the bay that Wolfe landed , (Gabarus),and the house was filled with history in both book and artifact, so my interest has been here for a long time. I'm also a musician, and love to play "British Grenadiers" on violin and guitar. In Cape Breton, it is the law. If you are born male, you must learn violin.Girls get to play the piano.
has anyone else noticed that the union flags of the King's Colours at 0:36, 2:37 and in the top left of the regimental colour at 3:09 are upside-down!?
Who in this Country could not be proud of our ancestors (English, Scott,Welsh or Northern Irish), in the "British Army" then the Redcoats? they all fought for their mates, families and Country in that order! dont care what the rest of the world thinks...............so there!
Actually, Russia didn't supply the UK at all, but they did do most of the fighting and pushed the Germans back to Berlin. And America did supply the UK with supplies, but it is too often forgotten that they also supplied the Nazis before they actually joined in the war, primarily with rubber and oil.
You really are an ignorant fucker aren't you. My grandfather fought the full 6 years of the war...yes it started in 1939. I understand that your grandfather on the other hand was in the park giving BJs to all and sundry! The Russians took the brunt of the German onslaught and eventually ground Hitler to a halt in Stalingrad. Yanks? turned up when they thought the beer was running out.
@Scotslover86 I will admit that USA helped hugely, they shorten the war and effectively ensued victory, however to say you "saved our asses" is not only ignorant and arrogant but also insulting to the non USA allies. Also if the UK had given up then the USA would have never entered the war, also if the UK had fallen then how would you launch D-day?
@mrmemanme Aye but i do give credit to The United States allies that bein the french, brits, russians, canadians, scotts, irish, phillipino, egyptian, chinese, italian resistance, french resistance, welsh, korean peninsula tribes. If gave britian, russia and france all the glory then i would get chewed out for not menchaning the little guys. and D-day did nothing except waste live. Attacking through spain would have brought better and more swift victory.
@tinkandtory you said British, and then said Scots, Irish and welsh. this was unnecessary. You really think that attacking neutral Spain would have been a good idea? It was NEUTRAL! Also it would have been virtually impossible to supply them, the bay of Biscay is a bitch to sail through.
@mrmemanme oh and the irish are independent. The scotts should be independant but instead you sluaghterd them. I quess America will always be the one who got away. Now if you would please stop this pointless conversation we could move on.
@tinkandtory You are very foolish, you are arrogant and know very little, the only Irish fighting in ww2 where the northern Irish who are British so I was right. However at least we both agree this conversation is over :D Catch you later mate.
Actually, Many Southern Irish fought with the British army in WW2. For a wage if nothing else. And not all N.Irish consider themselves British, my passport is an Irish one ;)
@tinkandtory You know its people like you I dislike. America wouldnt act any diffrent if one of their staes rebelled. Actully, they didnt with the American civil war. Shouldnt the confederetes have been independant but didnt you slaughter them? And didnt Americans dicriminate agaisnt and slaughter native Americans? And last but not least is not the reason for the revolution that you didnt like high taxes and paying 'foreign rulers'. How about you think before posting comments hmmm?
@Scotslover86 If i were you i would be more respectful my grand father died in ww2 in sicily. My family payed its price. I have ALREADY said i was sorry but i quess that is not enough. I officially declare this UTTERLY point less dispute between common people OVER. Can you agree my friend. No more remarks about who won what and who won when ITS pointless. I wish you had said nothing about our troops involving "showing up when the beer was good" thats an insult to many brave men. Now good day.
@Scotslover86 We helped to pull your chestnuts out of the fire Tommy; and we gave the Russians the Second Front they wanted; all while fighting the Japanese in the Pacific. Allies shouldn't talk this way about each other. A lot of good men - British, American, French, Polish, etc. - died fighting to bring the Nazis to heel. We should never deride each other's contribution.
@TheBushman2 You helped, we should be grateful (I am), we fought before you came in, you should be grateful - and we both fought the Japanese. Hitler would never have invaded us or stopped us invading Europe, without the Americans and the 10% they lent we would have starved and bombed the Germans and invaded a year later but with the Americans we could do it and only loose a few hundred thousand forces and 60,000 civilians in the whole war. Russia, China, Germany and Japan lost tens of millions.
@TheBushman2 I agree but being British it doesnt help when films like saving private Ryan and well respected actors like ted danson and tom hanks are delivered lines to disrespect an allied commander like montgomery.
@Scotslover86 I guess it doesnt matter where all the weaponry and supplies they got to halt hitler's offensive came from, before you make an ignorant remark look into the full history, oh and there were plenty of American mercenaries that were fighting for the allies on multiple fronts before its official entry into the war, to include pilots who flew for the RAF in the Battle of Britain, food for thought
@MobiusJM I do not deny the US's overall contrribution to the war effort, and am under no illusions that things would likely have gone very differently. But the pervasive theme from many of your countryman that you came in like the cavalry and saved the day is pretty offensive. By the time the US entered the war, my grandfather had lost a brother, two brother-in-laws and had our entired house bombed flat. We stood alone on the western front for 2 years....economically we never recovered!
@MobiusJM There were 10 American pilots who fought in the Battle of Britain, out of an air force of 3,000. Also they weren't mercenaries, they were individual volunteers. Until 1941, America as a country just sat and watched, they couldnt care less out stopping Hitler. Even after they were dragged into the war at Pearl harbour, they still waited a year before they sent a single soldier to fight the Germans, and that was only after the British and Russians has already turned the tied of the war.
@MobiusJM -Yes and there were many countries pilots fighting -Poland was the biggest contribution of pilots in WW2 in RAF after the Brits themselves but there were Canadians, South Africans,New Zealanders ,Australians,Indians,Sikhs i could go on and on.The War started for Britain in 1939 not 1942 when the US entered.Yes Britain is grateful for US help but it is offensive to keep claiming you won the war-it was all the allies pulling together and it is ignorant to not respect that fact.
@Scotslover86 Yanks were in the war since 1939 chief, giving very much needed material and supplies to the British and French, even though both nations had not paid the U.S. back for materials and supplies from WW1. American as well as Canadian military personal VOLUNTARILY were granted permission from their govts to help British forces fight since Britain was taking a brutal beating by the Germans and ASKED for help.
@mrceebees14 We paid for WW1 with amost a million fucking lives, including my Great Grandfather who won the Bronze medal for valour, and died 3 months before the end of the war leading a charge on enemy trenches. We also lost 3 of his brothers. My family was left destitude. In WW2 as we stood alone our family home was destroyed by a direct bomb hit. My grandfather fought from 1939-45, a full 6 years in both the Atlantic and Pacific arenas. Now don't talk about sacrifice, & fuck off
@mrceebees14 lol, no one owes YOU anything. Run back to your pathetic life you silly yank and complain about you near-enough non-existent education system.
@mrceebees14 We owe you nothing Your country was just bullet fodder so they dont shoot at us yeah.. thanks for that with all them bullets being fired at you and not at us big help
@tinkandtory No you did not, it was a join effort between UK, USSR and USA (mostly USSR.) Out of those 3 the only ones to fight during the whole war was the UK so stfu. Also you say you love France and yet they go slaughtered by redcoats, then by the Germans, you really are ignorant.
@mrmemanme Wow mr.ignoranthistoryidiot if you actually did research americans gave the USSR most of their supplies. The french actually tried to fight but didnt have the troops to do so. As i recall the russians and the brits were headed to surrender before the U.S. joined. Battle for Moscow battle for Britain left brits with little to no factories battle of moscow left the russians with lack of weapons, troops, ammo, and tanks. Then U.S. joins opening weapon factories resolving many logistics
@tinkandtory The French had more men the the Germans, USSR got like 5% of there supplies from the USA, also those supplies only got through due to the convoy system and the cracking of the Enigma code (both done by the UK). You recall wrong, neither the Brits nor the Russians were headed for surrender infact the war was tipping in our favour, the Germans could not cross the channel and the RAF where dominant and the Russian war machine was just getting started.
@mrmemanme Woah I would like to see those sources. Those are complete bullcrap statistics 5% wow just shows how stupid and oblideratly stupid and imature you are what are your sources "Wikipedia". I dont mind you Brits I even like you your rich millitary history and your will to seperate your selves from the other europeans. But you my my dear sir have a dwindilling intellegence. May God wipe your families seed from this earth. To all other Brits in these comments please exscuse me.
@tinkandtory The costliest battle the US fought in the war, the Battle of the Bulge, resulted in 90,000 American casualties (19,000 KIA) in fighting throughout the winter of 1944-45. However, in just the first twenty days of “Operation Barbarossa,” the 3.9 million man, 3,600 tank, 2,900 aircraft blitzkrieg across 600 miles of the Russian frontier launched in 1941, the Red Army suffered over two million killed…that is 100,000 deaths every day for just the first three weeks of the war.
@tinkandtory The simple fact is that eight out of ten Wehrmacht personnel were killed by the Red Army. Again, I believe your grandfather was at home at the time fighting off your grandmother's continual flatulance.
@tinkandtory You supplied like half the trucks, a bit of ammo and some money. The important things like tanks planes, artillery the majority of the ammo where all made in the USSR, basically Russia did about 50% or more of the work, USA did 25% and the British empire did the other 25% ish. I apologise if I sound churlish and i appreciate the help the USA gave, but please you your arrogance.
@tinkandtory Those Redcoats gave you your mother tongue France would've had ya if they hadn't been at war with us, never mind the statue of liberty, they would have sent their bluecoats over and you would have been screwed before you start!
@TheRanhyn Ya sure France invading the thirteen colonies when they are busy fighting England. You are obviously a monarchist my friend! France was content holding every thing west of New York. The English (being greedy) decided that they should hold every thing east of the Mississippi. Leaving the French to fight the spanish and the indians for thier rightful share in the new world. Oh and the BS about mother tongue english came from many diffrent tongues.
@TheRanhyn Also American frontiersman gave thier lifes to protect england only to have thier homes burnt to the ground and thier women and children slaughtered by the indians. None the less they still faught bravely for england then they were told to pay even more taxes. Is american blood for your damned crown not enough to prove that we were willing to die for the "King". Plus americans that faught on the frontier were not even given equal rank to the "redcoats". Again SCREW ENGLAND.
@LordGuttenburg Its not about who was better it was about who was morale monarchy is not. Freedom to do as you please is morally right. My respects to you. I hope i have not upset you so.
@tinkandtory Napoleon was an arrogant dictator! I dont see how thats morally right. He may have improved the life of the french people but they where not free, Britains monarchy included democracy and parliament. British citizens had more freedom than the french under napoleon.
Nevertheless we do not have pure democracy my friend we are still ruled by an oligarcy even if they change every few years and stop being dramatic for god's shake perverse?? We are tallking about the diferencies of modern and ancient form of democracy not about homocide or inbreeding i guess beeing British means beeing dramatic but anyway....The point is modern western culture is clearly influenced by Ancient Greeks. To argue the contrary is perverse :-P....
Can you imagine the courage it must have required to march straight into the enemies line through a storm of lead shot until it was nose to barrel? I don't know how they did it.
'History is written by the victors'. That saying is false. History is written by the allies of the Americans. Vietnam war, ever seen it from the Vietnamese perspective?
@theninjaswerehere you people, on both sides simply disgust me, forever swimming in historical myth, never to learn how the wars these soldiers and most others fought were filled with death, blood, and cynisism on the soldiers part. There are no honorable soldiers or wars, only death in that all consuming spasm of violence men of all societies since the begining of time have taken part in. Your historical debates are silly at best, there are no honorable sides, all people behave in evil fashion
British honor like declaring war on Fascist Germany in 1939 (the year WW2 started for the uneducated yank not 1942) instead of an the embarrassment of being caught with your trousers down at Pearl Harbour afther ignoring the inhumanity of Hitler for 3 years! 3 years!!!
We are a hardy breed just imagine how small the USA wouldve been if British fighting men didnt dominate the French and Spanish and force them out of North America. You are truly in our dept forevermore!
@Stupops78 WW2 started in September 1939, Attack on pearl harbor was December 1941 so 2 years and 3 months, I don't disagree with you on the whole I just don't like it when folk exaggerate (incorrectly) to prove a point.
their band was a copy of the Mehter military band, also volley fire was from The Ottomans...much men for colonies... and today everyone hates all the coloniests.their civilisation depends on only money.because of all of them as the states of free masonsary...
@nigee1970 Dead is dead, whether before earthworks or at sea. As for the Treaty of Ghent, ya think the British would have given New Orleans back IF they had WON ??? I don't think so...
@nigee1970 Had we lost you Brits would have us slathering at the foot of the Queen these dfays...so yes, it WAS a " second war of independence" ...and how many Brit lobsterbacks lay dead at New Orleans ?
@NamVetBuck You know we were not as ruthless as we are always made out to be propaganda is slander, as a country we wanted to protect our interests much like every war is about these days, America is just as guilty of that as we are of that. But we are allies now and really sibling countries so why is it so important to slash at each other over the past.
@JudgeMagisterPhoenix I just get a kick out of giving those that badmouth the USA a swift 11 1/2 D combat boot to their six...BTW, I agree about the being allies nowadays, even have some close friends in the Canadian Legion. Cheers, buddy !
@NamVetBuck Yeah I know what you mean its not needed and ouch lol. Oh cool! No problem glad to meet someone who agrees with me about us being allies :)
@NamVetBuck and instead you became the country you are today, loved the world over, british sarcasm.,,,,,,british dead have lay on many battlefields, and theres the clue,,,,,we have been at so many in our long history.
@NamVetBuck *raises eyebrow* "second war of independence" That you started... Even with the fully legitimate issue America had (press ganging of Americans into the royal navy) if you start a war and then invade the other country with the intention of Annexing is this is automatically a war of conquest... As for the Brit lobster thing, really? does insulting the dead (even centuries old dead) really make you feel so good it's worth doing?... both sides fought well, both sides deserve respect.
to all you so called ameicans you do know most of you come from England/Britain hahah so funny when ameicans are like yeah well usa kicks ass all of you are european ! where do you think you come from ! you guys are so dumb XD and the French won the American Independence War for you look in a history book that was not made by an america and you will see. long live the british empire for we are the Largest empire the world has ever seen !
@nigee1970 and the 'victorious' Americans get into another war with Britain (Which results in their capital being burnt down) and eventually descending into a civil war before even being a century old.
@NathanH97 at least we kicked the mexicans asses inbetween. it was a slaughter. we occupied their capital, and brought them to the negotiating table relatively quickly, unlike the french a couple of years later.
@NathanH97 Greatest Empire? matter of opinion, Achaemenid Empire or The Mongol Empire were by far more impressive than the British Empire, sure it was the largest in history, but size dont really mean much if most of you land is empty.(except for India which was the crown jewel of the British Empire). The British Empire was the greatest maritime and commercial power in history. My hats off goes to the Mongol Empire for almost a complete total domination of Asia.
@08infidel It is a matter of opinion and all but you would agree that the British Empire is the most impressive, let me guess your an american lol, envy is not a good quality
@08infidel British Empire also largest in terms of the number of people under its control - 1/4 of world's population and 1/3 of its land surface area. Also in terms of wealth and longevity it is difficult to argue the british empire wasn't the biggest. The other point is that the british had the whole world to compete with, whereas the empires you cite (whilst of course being huge in their day) in truth were limited to parts of the world they were physically able to reach.
@08infidel contd, but the real point about the british empire is not its size but its influence and impact on the modern world in terms of English being spoken as the international language of business (yes, also due to the USA, but why did they speak English in the first place?), the common law legal system, the industrial revolution, parliamentary democracy/capitalism etc. These factors make the british empire by far and away the single most important and influential empire in history
@THthefirst I agree with the influential part, but we are not talking about influence. We were talking about greatness and being the most impressive. You see the Roman Empire ranks at the top with the British Empire in term of influence, but they are not considered the "greatest". The U.S is highly inlfuential today, but were not nowhere near the greatness of past empires, such as the Achaemenid Empire with its founder Cyrus the Great, or the powerhouse behemoth of th Mongols.
@08infidel Why can't influence be one measure of greatness? I would suggest it very much is relevant. I disagree that the Roman Empire is as influential on the modern world - though it was of course 2000 years earlier. You couldn't reasonably argue that original Latin is spoken by a billion people, or that roman law has influenced to the same extent, or that its political systems (no democracy) are followed? A lot of Roman culture was Greek-based in any event.
@THthefirst Influence is a measure of greatness, but it by itself doesnt neceseraliy make an empire the greatest. You need a combination of factors. The Roman Empire is highly influential, the very alphabet that were writing this text is Latin, there are many influences, just google it and do some research on it. Another example is that the founding fathers of the U.S were insipired by the Roman Republic. My opinion still rest for the Achaemenid Empire, read about them.
@08infidel You are backtracking. First you say influence isn't relevant to greatness then you accept it is a measure of greatness. Whilst I agree of course that Rome has influenced western culture, it is going too far to suggest it has been more influential than the british empire on the modern world. Rome had no concept of democracy, which is fundamental to modern western culture. It was also a military society founded on slavery, which is alien to us now.
@THthefirst U do understand the difference between Democracy and republic right?? I mean we don't live in Democratic times we vote an oligarchic team to rule us or if we want to simplify it we vote for our rullers...The concept of democracy is to vote the new laws and have an active life in politics not to give someone else our responsibilities and go on with our lifes (modern Republic)...Rome used to be a republic which means u r wrong...Our modern society is more influenced by Rome than uthink
@Jeffanos I disagree with your analysis. We live in a representative democracy because it would be totally inpracticable to have pure democracy in a country of tens of millions of people for every decision. Our politicians are accountable and every few years there are elections to remove them. Clearly, this is far more democratic relative to Rome, where the plebians had no power, no vote, no chance of changing anything. To argue the contrary is perverse.
@THthefirst Nevertheless we do not have pure democracy my friend we are still ruled by an oligarcy even if they change every few years and stop being dramatic for god's shake perverse?? We are tallking about the diferencies of modern and ancient form of democracy not about homocide or inbreeding i guess beeing British means beeing dramatic but anyway....The point is modern western culture is clearly influenced by Ancient Greeks. To argue the contrary is perverse :-P....
@Jeffanos Of course we don't have pure democracy - that is unworkable in a country of 60 million people spread over hundreds of miles - surely you get that, right? Even the Greeks didn't have pure democracy (only Athenian born males, and there were 30,000 max in one place). Are the british known for being dramatic? Reserved I thought. The point is that the system has accountability and can be changed every few years. Ancient Greece - slaves? Women not having the vote? empires?
@DukoOsshiiKhan uhhh look into who ur allies were in North Africa and just how many great victorys u won by urself. Rommel was kicking u in the pants from day one. he is the only german i respect from those day. and Patton was the guy who turned the tide on that front. read a history book u english panzy.
@mrharmonica100 'after WW2 the would can fear communism' dumb bastard calling me desperate you can't even spell. Ha ha ha I can tell someone never went to school ha ha ha, and seriously? battered? wtf are you on about the royal navy hardly got scratched it was little merchant ships carrying supplies that were getting sunk most of the time.
@mrharmonica100 Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha LMAO, ha ha ha no one is that thick you must be joking? Either you are a complete retard or the US has the worst schools in the world. The British Empire/ Commonwealth turned the tide in North Africa look up 'Second battle of El Alamein' (this is before the US even joined the war, I suppose you are just a bunch of pussys and won't join a war unless your 'Allies' do all the work for you first) look up HISTORY before coming back little boy.
@iSpinksy hmm no. Americans actually did want to join the war but the government didn't want to cuz the war was all the way in europe. i think we should have stayed nuetral but i guess fate wouldn't have it that way. wen japan attacked that changed everything. and if we were such pussys y did we send Amercian pilots to help u out in battle of britian? God knows u needed every bit of help we gave u. HISTORY my friend.
@iSpinksy yep u are very right. it just shows that we are allies. so i apologize for the many un-needed comments. without the british, America would never have been created so i thank you for that :)
@DukoOsshiiKhan and yes we did come in at the last moment. i think america should have let u TRY to win. even winston chruchill begged FDR to join the war. cuz of course u and ur battered navy and over-streched army could have pulled victory in all by urselves. pfff! just look a D-day. most of those ships, troops, and planes were american. in the battle of the buldge america faught and defeated the last attack hilter could muster.
@mrharmonica100 70% of the Nazi war machine died on the eastern front stop trying to steal the soviets victory, battle of the bulge was nothing look up battle of stalingrad and battle of kursk.
Oh and our navy wasn't battered it was hardly scratched and over half of the troops on d-day were British and Canadian and d-day wasn't exactly a turning point in the war, all the Germans left after d-day were either young boys or old men
@iSpinksy i didn't steal anyones victory. i only mentioned one battle that was desisive against hitler. and yes ur navy was battered by all the U-Boats. u can't deny that subs were a major threat to ur supplys. and if u look at soviet losses compared to german losses u'll find thousands more soviets died than the germans. some victory they had.
@mrharmonica100 Royal Navy wasn't battered by U-boats, we had 885 ships and lost 278 thoughout world war 2, and considering Hitler despised everything russian and wanted to exterminate all of them the fact their race and country are still going today is a victory
@iSpinksy loosing 278 ships is being battered. and Russia stil existing today is a victory? So for the next serval yrs after WW2 the would can fear communism instead of nazism?? yea right. again, some victory.
@mrharmonica100 I can see you lack even the most basic intelligence (seeing how you can't even spell world)so I will try to explain things in a extremely simplistic way so even you can understand.
In world war 2 the Royal Navy had a total of 885 ships and lost 278 ships. 885 - 278=607 ships. Which means the axis never even destroyed half the Royal Navy, so that means they weren't 'battered'.
@iSpinksy u must be communist urself. personally i would like the world to be happy free and wealthy. i feel bad for u for wanting the government to have all the power and money.
@DukoOsshiiKhan who the heck needs castles?! they are useless. plus wat do u mean not by conquest? fighting native americans is considered a war. we had to fight all those tribes to get more land. so yes it was by conquest. we just had to pay other countrys for that land first. then we had to pour blood sweat and tears into forming todays USA. and as for the WW2, for a while it was a stalemate but Germany had more resources and power and u would have eventually lost due to lack of supplys.
@DukoOsshiiKhan HAHAHA! u say u we have no history?? ........ look, that moment was in the past, most ppl call the past history. but u and ur british mind are so far above basic understanding now aren't u? we have about a 200 yr history and look how much we have accomplished!! 13 colonies to 50 states, wars we have won, getting ur british butt out of trouble TWICE (ww1 ww2)..... many new types of technology and such. not saying were perfect cuz noone is but im saying that ur statement is false.
@exarmydoc Youre right. Thanks for correcting me!

@TheHenrySavage The Army which captured Washington and burned the White House were British Army regular troops. Google "The Burning of Washington if you don't believe me. Incidentally, the burning of Washington had no effect on the outcome of the war.

did not the englishmen dress themselves in green french in blue and germany in grey ?
Narjoso 1 month ago
@Narjoso as a matter of fact, they all did and to some extent still do, but only during ceremonies and parades. Also some police units still are nicknamed redcoats. However, during WWI the use of camouflage became popular for obvious reasons, therefore the soldiers can't be called redcoats anymore.
In addition to that, you seem to ignore the obvious fact, that the term "redcoat" is a proper name.

@tinkandtory you said British, and then said Scots, Irish and welsh. this was unnecessary. You really think that attacking neutral Spain would have been a good idea? It was NEUTRAL! Also it would have been virtually impossible to supply them, the bay of Biscay is a bitch to sail through.

tinkandtory 3 months ago
@Scotslover86 We helped to pull your chestnuts out of the fire Tommy; and we gave the Russians the Second Front they wanted; all while fighting the Japanese in the Pacific. Allies shouldn't talk this way about each other. A lot of good men - British, American, French, Polish, etc. - died fighting to bring the Nazis to heel. We should never deride each other's contribution.
TheBushman2 3 months ago
@TheBushman2 You helped, we should be grateful (I am), we fought before you came in, you should be grateful - and we both fought the Japanese. Hitler would never have invaded us or stopped us invading Europe, without the Americans and the 10% they lent we would have starved and bombed the Germans and invaded a year later but with the Americans we could do it and only loose a few hundred thousand forces and 60,000 civilians in the whole war. Russia, China, Germany and Japan lost tens of millions.
quarkwrok 2 months ago

@Scotslover86 I guess it doesnt matter where all the weaponry and supplies they got to halt hitler's offensive came from, before you make an ignorant remark look into the full history, oh and there were plenty of American mercenaries that were fighting for the allies on multiple fronts before its official entry into the war, to include pilots who flew for the RAF in the Battle of Britain, food for thought
MobiusJM 2 months ago
@MobiusJM I do not deny the US's overall contrribution to the war effort, and am under no illusions that things would likely have gone very differently. But the pervasive theme from many of your countryman that you came in like the cavalry and saved the day is pretty offensive. By the time the US entered the war, my grandfather had lost a brother, two brother-in-laws and had our entired house bombed flat. We stood alone on the western front for 2 years....economically we never recovered!
Scotslover86 2 months ago
@MobiusJM There where more poles in the battle of Britain than americans...
11Cheesewaffles 2 months ago
@MobiusJM I LOL at your foolishness.
mrmemanme 2 months ago
@MobiusJM There were 10 American pilots who fought in the Battle of Britain, out of an air force of 3,000. Also they weren't mercenaries, they were individual volunteers. Until 1941, America as a country just sat and watched, they couldnt care less out stopping Hitler. Even after they were dragged into the war at Pearl harbour, they still waited a year before they sent a single soldier to fight the Germans, and that was only after the British and Russians has already turned the tied of the war.
uafchris 2 months ago

You owe us.

mrmemanme 3 months ago
@mrmemanme Wow mr.ignoranthistoryidiot if you actually did research americans gave the USSR most of their supplies. The french actually tried to fight but didnt have the troops to do so. As i recall the russians and the brits were headed to surrender before the U.S. joined. Battle for Moscow battle for Britain left brits with little to no factories battle of moscow left the russians with lack of weapons, troops, ammo, and tanks. Then U.S. joins opening weapon factories resolving many logistics
tinkandtory 3 months ago
@tinkandtory The French had more men the the Germans, USSR got like 5% of there supplies from the USA, also those supplies only got through due to the convoy system and the cracking of the Enigma code (both done by the UK). You recall wrong, neither the Brits nor the Russians were headed for surrender infact the war was tipping in our favour, the Germans could not cross the channel and the RAF where dominant and the Russian war machine was just getting started.
mrmemanme 3 months ago
@mrmemanme Woah I would like to see those sources. Those are complete bullcrap statistics 5% wow just shows how stupid and oblideratly stupid and imature you are what are your sources "Wikipedia". tinkandtory 3 months ago
Scotslover86 3 months ago
@tinkandtory The simple fact is that eight out of ten Wehrmacht personnel were killed by the Red Army. Again, I believe your grandfather was at home at the time fighting off your grandmother's continual flatulance.
Scotslover86 3 months ago
@tinkandtory You supplied like half the trucks, a bit of ammo and some money. The important things like tanks planes, artillery the majority of the ammo where all made in the USSR, basically Russia did about 50% or more of the work, USA did 25% and the British empire did the other 25% ish. I apologise if I sound churlish and i appreciate the help the USA gave, but please you your arrogance.

anyone else notice that as soon as Britain loses control of the thirteen colonies (the USA) it starts building the greatest empire ever witnessed?
NathanH97 5 months ago
@NathanH97 Greatest Empire? matter of opinion, Achaemenid Empire or The Mongol Empire were by far more impressive than the British Empire, sure it was the largest in history, but size dont really mean much if most of you land is empty.(except for India which was the crown jewel of the British Empire). The British Empire was the greatest maritime and commercial power in history. My hats off goes to the Mongol Empire for almost a complete total domination of Asia.
08infidel 4 months ago
@08infidel It is a matter of opinion and all but you would agree that the British Empire is the most impressive, let me guess your an american lol, envy is not a good quality
T0TTENK0PF 4 months ago
@08infidel and my hats off to the British empire for almost conquering the entire globe.
NathanH97 4 months ago
@08infidel British Empire also largest in terms of the number of people under its control - 1/4 of world's population and 1/3 of its land surface area. Also in terms of wealth and longevity it is difficult to argue the british empire wasn't the biggest. The other point is that the british had the whole world to compete with, whereas the empires you cite (whilst of course being huge in their day) in truth were limited to parts of the world they were physically able to reach.
THthefirst 4 months ago
@08infidel contd, but the real point about the british empire is not its size but its influence and impact on the modern world in terms of English being spoken as the international language of business (yes, also due to the USA, but why did they speak English in the first place?), the common law legal system, the industrial revolution, parliamentary democracy/capitalism etc. These factors make the british empire by far and away the single most important and influential empire in history
THthefirst 4 months ago
@THthefirst I agree with the influential part, but we are not talking about influence. We were talking about greatness and being the most impressive. You see the Roman Empire ranks at the top with the British Empire in term of influence, but they are not considered the "greatest". The U.S is highly inlfuential today, but were not nowhere near the greatness of past empires, such as the Achaemenid Empire with its founder Cyrus the Great, or the powerhouse behemoth of th Mongols.
08infidel 4 months ago
@08infidel Why can't influence be one measure of greatness? I would suggest it very much is relevant. I disagree that the Roman Empire is as influential on the modern world - though it was of course 2000 years earlier. You couldn't reasonably argue that original Latin is spoken by a billion people, or that roman law has influenced to the same extent, or that its political systems (no democracy) are followed? A lot of Roman culture was Greek-based in any event.
THthefirst 4 months ago
@THthefirst Influence is a measure of greatness, but it by itself doesnt neceseraliy make an empire the greatest. You need a combination of factors. The Roman Empire is highly influential, the very alphabet that were writing this text is Latin, there are many influences, just google it and do some research on it. Another example is that the founding fathers of the U.S were insipired by the Roman Republic. My opinion still rest for the Achaemenid Empire, read about them.
08infidel 4 months ago
@08infidel You are backtracking. First you say influence isn't relevant to greatness then you accept it is a measure of greatness. Whilst I agree of course that Rome has influenced western culture, it is going too far to suggest it has been more influential than the british empire on the modern world. Rome had no concept of democracy, which is fundamental to modern western culture. It was also a military society founded on slavery, which is alien to us now.
THthefirst 4 months ago

THthefirst 4 months ago
@THthefirst Nevertheless we do not have pure democracy my friend we are still ruled by an oligarcy even if they change every few years and stop being dramatic for god's shake perverse?? We are tallking about the diferencies of modern and ancient form of democracy not about homocide or inbreeding i guess beeing British means beeing dramatic but anyway....The point is modern western culture is clearly influenced by Ancient Greeks. To argue the contrary is perverse :-P....
Jeffanos 4 months ago
@Jeffanos Of course we don't have pure democracy - that is unworkable in a country of 60 million people spread over hundreds of miles - surely you get that, right? Even the Greeks didn't have pure democracy (only Athenian born males, and there were 30,000 max in one place). Are the british known for being dramatic? Reserved I thought. The point is that the system has accountability and can be changed every few years. Ancient Greece - slaves? Women not having the vote? empires?

@DukoOsshiiKhan uhhh look into who ur allies were in North Africa and just how many great victorys u won by urself. Rommel was kicking u in the pants from day one. he is the only german i respect from those day. and Patton was the guy who turned the tide on that front. read a history book u english panzy.
mrharmonica100 5 months ago
@mrharmonica100 'after WW2 the would can fear communism' dumb bastard calling me desperate you can't even spell. Ha ha ha I can tell someone never went to school ha ha ha, and seriously? battered? wtf are you on about the royal navy hardly got scratched it was little merchant ships carrying supplies that were getting sunk most of the time.
And I would like to know how I am communist?
iSpinksy 5 months ago
@iSpinksy typo. my mistake. thank u for pointing it out. :) and u are acting like one.
mrharmonica100 5 months ago
@mrharmonica100 Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha LMAO, ha ha ha no one is that thick you must be joking? Either you are a complete retard or the US has the worst schools in the world. The British Empire/ Commonwealth turned the tide in North Africa look up 'Second battle of El Alamein' (this is before the US even joined the war, I suppose you are just a bunch of pussys and won't join a war unless your 'Allies' do all the work for you first) look up HISTORY before coming back little boy.
iSpinksy 5 months ago
@iSpinksy hmm no. Americans actually did want to join the war but the government didn't want to cuz the war was all the way in europe. i think we should have stayed nuetral but i guess fate wouldn't have it that way. wen japan attacked that changed everything. and if we were such pussys y did we send Amercian pilots to help u out in battle of britian? God knows u needed every bit of help we gave u. HISTORY my friend.
mrharmonica100 5 months ago
@mrharmonica100 Seven American pilots wouldn't have made much of a difference, compared to 2,353 British pilots
iSpinksy 5 months ago
@iSpinksy yep u are very right. it just shows that we are allies. so i apologize for the many un-needed comments. without the british, America would never have been created so i thank you for that :)
mrharmonica100 5 months ago
@iSpinksy just to say im english and agree with some of your points but just to point out, at El Alamein we won a battle, not the war.
t0ryb00y 5 months ago
@DukoOsshiiKhan and yes we did come in at the last moment. i think america should have let u TRY to win. even winston chruchill begged FDR to join the war. cuz of course u and ur battered navy and over-streched army could have pulled victory in all by urselves. pfff! just look a D-day. most of those ships, troops, and planes were american. in the battle of the buldge america faught and defeated the last attack hilter could muster.
mrharmonica100 5 months ago
@mrharmonica100 70% of the Nazi war machine died on the eastern front stop trying to steal the soviets victory, battle of the bulge was nothing look up battle of stalingrad and battle of kursk.
Oh and our navy wasn't battered it was hardly scratched and over half of the troops on d-day were British and Canadian and d-day wasn't exactly a turning point in the war, all the Germans left after d-day were either young boys or old men
iSpinksy 5 months ago
@iSpinksy i didn't steal anyones victory. i only mentioned one battle that was desisive against hitler. and yes ur navy was battered by all the U-Boats. u can't deny that subs were a major threat to ur supplys. and if u look at soviet losses compared to german losses u'll find thousands more soviets died than the germans. some victory they had.
mrharmonica100 5 months ago
@mrharmonica100 Royal Navy wasn't battered by U-boats, we had 885 ships and lost 278 thoughout world war 2, and considering Hitler despised everything russian and wanted to exterminate all of them the fact their race and country are still going today is a victory
iSpinksy 5 months ago
@iSpinksy loosing 278 ships is being battered. and Russia stil existing today is a victory? So for the next serval yrs after WW2 the would can fear communism instead of nazism?? yea right. again, some victory.
mrharmonica100 5 months ago
@mrharmonica100 I can see you lack even the most basic intelligence (seeing how you can't even spell world)so I will try to explain things in a extremely simplistic way so even you can understand.
In world war 2 the Royal Navy had a total of 885 ships and lost 278 ships. 885 - 278=607 ships. Which means the axis never even destroyed half the Royal Navy, so that means they weren't 'battered'.
iSpinksy 5 months ago
@iSpinksy Battered is battered i never said u lost half genuis. and wen did i miss-spell "world"?? wow ur really desperate.
mrharmonica100 5 months ago
@mrharmonica100 And who gives a shit if eastern europe was forced to accept communism?
iSpinksy 5 months ago
@iSpinksy u must be communist urself. personally i would like the world to be happy free and wealthy. i feel bad for u for wanting the government to have all the power and money.
mrharmonica100 5 months ago
@mrharmonica100 i would pefer to be a communist then a jew, gypsy, cripple killing facist.

@DukoOsshiiKhan who the heck needs castles?! they are useless. plus wat do u mean not by conquest? fighting native americans is considered a war. we had to fight all those tribes to get more land. so yes it was by conquest. we just had to pay other countrys for that land first. then we had to pour blood sweat and tears into forming todays USA. and as for the WW2, for a while it was a stalemate but Germany had more resources and power and u would have eventually lost due to lack of supplys.
mrharmonica100 5 months ago
Shut your damn mouths, we are allies. We fought our enemies together!
drizztinator 5 months ago
@DukoOsshiiKhan HAHAHA! u say u we have no history?? ........ look, that moment was in the past, most ppl call the past history. but u and ur british mind are so far above basic understanding now aren't u? we have about a 200 yr history and look how much we have accomplished!! 13 colonies to 50 states, wars we have won, getting ur british butt out of trouble TWICE (ww1 ww2)..... many new types of technology and such. not saying were perfect cuz noone is but im saying that ur statement is false.
