As one who relies on Social Security, I can tell you it should not be privatized. A quick look at the stock market and the people who manipulate it should tell you that free market influences have nothing to do with public duty. When I was paying into the system my only complaint was that, as you pointed out, the government borrows from SS funds for other purposes than caring for its elderly. That borrowing should be stopped.
