  • A Million Stars.....

    You have a beautiful voice.

    Jennie. x.

  • What was Trevelyan (or his Land Agent) to do? Let the peasants steal the corn, only to find they starve even more in winter? The old saying is 'Give an inch, and they'll a mile'. Mind you she's a lovely singer - different to our Judith......Judith is Oz, Mary Irish.

  • @Wordsmith37

Actually; it's 'give them an inch, they'll take a yard.'

    Thank you.

    Jennie. x.

    fab song ....

  • love this song every version gets better but this i must say is classic

  • Thanks for posting. Where can we (Americans) find a thumbnail sized history behind some of these Irish Songs? It will help us understand and better appreciate what we are hearing in the song lyrics and better understand the Irish as a people and some of their struggles.

  • SHE IS BRILLIANT

  • beautifull x x x

  • Very beautiful voice and song.I like and enjoy listening ,.... specially "The White Rose of Athens"., and "The Yellow Rose". Am not tired of listening or replaying these songs.. Many thanks for sharing and for posting..

  • I love this song

  • i just love this song

  • It is a toss up which version I like best; Mary's or Isla Grant's. Both grab you right in the heart.

  • Brilliant!!!!

  • I would dearly love to hear Mary Duff perform duets with Charlotte Church. Especially "Carrickfergus", and some of the old classic songs.

  • I just discovered Mary Duff, and once again I find her doing a wonderful job on this GREAT song !

  • Careful, me name's Patio O' Furniture...bottom of tha marnin to ya...

  • @sturmgesutz i can see from ur channe that ur musica taste is between ur toes so perhaps you should liberate your mind!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

  • @sturmgesutz if this kind of music upsets so much why did u listen in the first instance.sad that you cant communicate your views without using foul language.

  • @sturmgesutz This song has much less political cogitations in the United States than it does in the British Isles. This is especially true in Texas where there is a heavy Irish presence, but where those of Irish decent consider themselves Texan above all else. Here, this is a song about the injustices shown towards the Irish during the 19th century and much less else. You being a culturally babied Brit obviously do not understand this. Notice, no IRA chants in this version.

  • @sturmgesutz ur an idiot im a brit and its a fantastic song you muppet

  • lovely version of a heartbreaking song

  • one of my favourite Irish songs, sung by a wonderful voice

  • Mary is one of the best. I have several of her albums. That is good news that she will have a dvd out in Oct. Hope it is avaiable in the US.

  • mary duff's new album is out in october and her new dvd is out in march 2010 can't wait hehe

  • Beautiful! Best female singer - Mary Duff. Best male singer : Paddy Reilly

  • when she sung in winsford cheshire 1st class

  • Excellent Mary! First class!

  • I saw her May 10th in Branson MO. Show was so good I went back on the 11th. What a singer.

  • This song makes me cry. It's so beautiful and sad at the same time.

    It's so poetic.

And her voice is the best I've ever heard with it. Best version of this song EVER!

  • MON THE HOOPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I had the pleasure of seeing the lady live many years ago. Does anyone have news of her now?

  • shes still tourin and recordin new album out in sept as far as i no

  • Mary Duff who sometimes supports Daniel O'Donnell in concert but also tours in her own right.

  • A gorgeous version of a beautiful song but one question.... who is the singer? it doesn't say

  • This music is beautiful. I have never heard of this lady before...where have I been all my life?

  • long live the Irish ballads of freedom

  • This artist and the song, absolutely makes me cry and realize how good God is to me.

I am going to get her cd's.

  • I've hearh several versions of this beautiful and sad song, but this version is the best!

  • This song tell the story of the british and the crulty they placed on the irish people. May they all die in agony.

  • Don't know where you learned your history, but there are hardly any alive now from that generation.

  • get over it and move on idiot

  • You moronic imbecile . Possibly the most repugnant comment I've ever read

  • Unbelieveable...so many unknown to the U.S. Thanks so much for posting...

Wayne In Texas...this would be a popular Texas-sounding song...much heartache.

  • I agree. Ireland and Texas actually have a lot in common musically. I'm irish-american. I love both. I don't discriminate on music, there's so much to like out there.

From Zeppelin to Mary Duff lol

  • Why did I get a thumbs down?

I guess someone out there doesn't like Texas or maybe Led Zeppelin?

    Yall are harsh!

  • It might have been a mistake, Ive accidently hit the down when i meant the thumbs up. The thumbs up should be on the left.

  • i have uploaded a video of this with Paddy singing and Mary sings this just as beautifuly

  • when i stuck in prison i sang this.

  • This was my Grandads favourat a song now hes dead unfortunately
