Does anyone remember the Genesis commercial where the bully brings the other kid a plate of cookies, and the kid slaps the tray out of the bully's hand and says, "I said chocolate chip" while he's playing the Genesis console? It started out the with the kid being bullied around by the bully for playing the plain old eight bit system until he became a hard ass once he got the sixteen bit Genesis system. I can't find it anywhere, and its one of my favorite commercials.

I don't see how that makes the Genesis a failure though. Add-ons are just add-ons, accessories for a console, not a console in itself. Only a few million units separates the sales of the N64 and the Genesis, and the Genesis sold much more than the Gamecube. Unlike either of those systems, the Genesis actually managed to win some regions, namely Europe and Brazil. It actually threatened the market leader for a time instead of being a distant second and third like the N64 and GC.

Whether you liked the Genesis or not is your opinion. All I'm saying is that it was not a failure. It didn't win the 16-bit console war, but it was successful everywhere besides Japan. What the new generation of gamers doesn't understand is that the Genesis is the system that made Sega a powerhouse in the console industry back in the 90's, not DC or Saturn

As for the Wii... it sold almost 20 million more than 360 or PS3. It's safe to say Nintendo is the winner of this generation
