Ah Ward! Agree with you guys. Too bad Ward was killed so early in the last movie he and his best friend Duke did. Did you know that Duke was in an episode of Wagon Train?
Pappy Ford directed it and a great many scenes from the movie WagonMaster were in it. Ward's untimely death at 57 left many of us stunned and in disbelief. One of the most prolific and underrated actors ever! KP
Donald 6899 John Wayne did not fight in world war two because he was turned away at the draft board for a shoulder injury suffered while playing football at usc and also to stay with his rapidly growing family
We have all seen Wayne playing the tuff guy image on screen. Why did he not fight during WW2? Did he have flat feet, disabled or blind? James Stewart fought during the war. I just wondered why Wayne (the tuff guy) didn't. No offence intended, I'm sure I will be told the answer.
@Cowbelltheoneandonly You talk about him in present tense as if he was still alive today. Considering he had over 100 movies, I'd have to disagree, and say that it's simply not true. Classic Hollywood would have never allowed a terrible actor into the showbiz.
John Wayne was a mediocre actor, let alone a terrible cowboy. He didn't have the true gritty lone-rider characteristics needed to be a cowboy, and thus I declare him a terrible actor.
@Cowbelltheoneandonly He was a good actor and not a cowboy at all, wait if you actually thought he was a cowboy, I guess that would make him a pretty good actor.
@Cowbelltheoneandonly So because he isn't the western image Clint Eastwood created well after John Waynes time, he is a terrible cowboy. How can he be a terrible cowboy if THAT certain image of cowboy had barely been created.
It's like saying Steve Mcqueens a bad cop because he isn't John McClane
Wow the Duke superb. Walter Brenne as Gabby a riot but there he is my hero my idol as a kid the one and only WARD BOND a,a Seth Adams WAGON TRAIN> Gone too son, the best ever we need Ward more than e3ver these days republican like me 50rh ann coming up in 2 months god rest ya Ward. I love this movie. I watch it every chance I get and it never seems to get old. Guess I just can't get over Walter Brennan's part as Stumpy. That old coot is just crazy enough to be nearly adorable with his cracks. XD
He shoulda won the Oscar for this movie, or the Searchers. This was a GREAT movie, except for Angie Dickinson...she is an awful actress!!! But even she could'nt ruin this flick.

Ricky Nelson did though.

Naw, Ricky Nelson did a fairly decent job in hi part of the movie. But Angie Dickenson as a pretty poor choice for her role.
