whitney is a super great singer no doubt,r.i.p.,but there's no way she could ever of held notes the way sandi did even if it's different styles of music, she could hit them very shortly but sandi would hold a c6 for like 4 to 6 seconds.crazy.sandi is VERY operatic but she can also just SING as well
BTW not all the sandi videos are from the 80's the one with the shorter hair is from 2001 from a show called Sandi Patty All The Best Live. Let's see if Whitney can still sing as high as Sandi.
Whitney Houston. It's obvious that without any training she can keep up with a trained soprano who totally ignores her chest voice to have more fullness and ease in the upper register. It's especially hard to maintain both chest abilities and head voice abilities as well. Also, WHITNEY HOUSTON IS A POP SINGER! Holding out those notes like that is not a characteristic of pop music. But I'm sure Whitney could.
@AStevenson91 Sandi in her prime actually could belt. Not as well as Whitney of course. And the video is about head voice so chest voice has no relevance.
@AStevenson91 No you didn't and I apologize for assuming. However, your initial comment is still inaccurate. "Chest voice" means a person's lower register and middle voice, which includes belting. You said Sandi "totally ignores her chest voice" which is not true because that's the voice that she sings the most in, as it is with any singer. Head Voice is her strongest register because she's a trained soprano.
@Devotedlamb19 I did overdo it by saying "totally ignores chest voice." I thought she was a classical or opera singer. They mostly sing with their head voices. And yes I agree chest includes your lower and middle, but you can belt both of them and of course the upper register as well to be correct.
@AStevenson91 Yes. Sandi did have classical voice training and as a result, most of her songs/renditions are composed in the classical style. I've heard rumors that she's recorded operatic material that never got released but no one knows for sure.
What a strange comparison. Both are VERY different singers and to compare their head voices doesn't make sense. Especially since they have very different technique.
Whitney's head sounds more open and round.. not as thick as Sandi's however, contrary to a few comments on Sandi's apparent training, Whitney's sounds more operatic; rapid vibrato, piercing, open etc.. Personally, I prefer Whitney's
I love Whitney... I think her voice was a national treasure. She was an amazing singer but there is no comparison between Whitney and Sandi. Sandi is a vocally trained soprano. Please listen how Sandi holds the B's and C's, while Whitney only stays there for a few seconds. Sandi's high notes are way fuller than Whitney's. And of course, listen to them both now: Sandi still has a marvelous voice, whereas Whitney.. well, y'all know.
They both have beautiful head voices but Whitney's much more interesting. It has the soul, power that Sandy lacks and Whitney takes her voice done winding roads, dips, swoops and caresses notes that make her a bit more of an interesting singer.
I love Whitney's head voice more because of the dynamics, beauty, and the vibrato is just...wow! Sandi Patti has a great and powerful vibrato! They are both amazing, but Whitney does it for me!
Odd how all the Whitney clips are so loud, almost as if they have been turned up too much, while the Sandi clips are muffled. But even with that strange recording choice, Sandi wins hands down. You can find YouTube videos from this year with Sandi hitting all these same notes in much the same way, whereas those recent clips of Whitney do not exist. It's the difference between Sandi's trained soprano, treated with respect over the years, and Whitney's natural talent, treated with disregard.
@mchmjc i guess child whitney to has tour way more then her as well which cause more stress to the vocals and so what if sandi still has her voice dont mean shes better, because when peeps mention the greats you hear whitneys name everytime but sandi i dont think so
@NippyFan100 Whitney hasn't done one concert tour date this year and has zero scheduled. Sandi has done 100+ dates this year and is in the middle of her annual Christmas tour right now. Right after that she's doing several performances of the Broadway show Hello Dolly, then back to her heavy performance schedule. There's no doubt that Whitney is more famous and she is very talented, even if her voice has faded now, but that is not the question. Sandi was and is a better singer - period.
@mchmjc um i dont think so and my point was whitney from 85 to 2004 always had a hetic schedule why do you think she got nods back in 94 from performing to much and whitneys setlist is one of the toughest in the game Whitney Rules sandi who
@NippyFan100 I really must disagree. Sandi's been a recording artist for 40 years, singing an extremely difficult repertoire of very challenging songs & performing without stop, as many Christian artists must do because of the smaller audience to purchase recordings. Whitney, as a major recording artist, has done much less touring, with many long breaks for movies & personal/health issues. Whitney is a legendary star but more fame does not always mean higher quality. But we can agree to disagree!
@mchmjc : TOTALLY agree! I did notice that Sandi's clips were lowered in volume while Whitney's were louder for some reason. Love Whitney but there is no comparison between the two. Of course, it requires some vocal knowledge to see this. People who don't know most likely will pick Whitney.
@TheAleph74 You've hit the nail on the head! Of course Whitney is far more famous than Sandi, although I would dare say that many people a bit older than some commenting still recall Sandi's National Anthem with fondness. I love Whitney too - both she and Sandi were favorites in high school in the late 80s and even now. But Cissy Houston is the real talent in that family for me :-) There's a singer! Even Dionne held onto her voice longer than Whitney.
Whitney takes this for me. She has more colors and is also fuller than sandy patti. She also does more with it. Sandy does have a great headvoice indeed though.
Both are really good... For me Sandi Patty have better voice... But if you ask me who take care of her voice and still at this age singing and hittin that high note? Just search both ladies lattest performaces and you have the Answer.... In case that you dont want to search I can give you the answer SANDI PATTY....
@Bocelliopera34 who cares who still has there prime voice dont mean that person sounds better any body can sing high dosent mean its better or good so get over it
oh sandi patty...haha ive never really been a fan of hers...maybe because she tries to sing gospel sounding songs in complete head voice and it just sounds awkward. but her head voice is quite nice though but she can be so bombastic with it. its ok to add some dynamcics. add some piano or pianisimo sometime girl
@agators212 Sandi's genre is Contemporary Christian Music, not Gospel. She's probably done a few gospel numbers, but it's not what her catalog consists of as a whole. I heard some piano in her last E5, and her third F5.
@Devotedlamb19 not very often, i mean im not an avid fan of hers, but because my mom loves the gather concert specials and stuff they show an old performance of hers every now and then. but i know she's contemporary though. the one performance of hers that i don't mind recently was when her a david phelps did a whole new world.
Both are masters at switching between their registers. Sandi can still really SANG!! Check out her more recent vids on YT and check for yourself. I'm a huge fan of both of them.
I love you Sandi!
