  • Does anyone know who played saxophone on this album? The song "Father I stretch my hand to thee" is absolutely marvelous.

  • I was introduced to this song about a few years ago. Our church minister of music brought this song to the choir and everyone loved it. This song is our COGIC anthem that's very anointing and powerful.

  • This is some rare Myrna Summers... I think though The "Tell It Like It Is" is even more rare-r.

  • 3:20 to 4:30 is the shit.

  • Amazing. Added with respect to my Youtube Gospel/Hammond organ favorites. Thanks!

  • Amen. Beautiful voice. . .

  • good

  • StarBrown1, thank you soooo much for posting these songs. This really takes me back....Temple COGIC, Bishop Kelsey, Ricky McCrimmon, Harvey Lewis, Winona Lewis singing Going Up Yonder, Tim Linzy & Danny McCrimmon playing drums, the State Choir! Those were the days! Growing up COGIC in Washington, DC was a blessing!

  • OMG these were the days! I can smell the very atmosphere lol

  • My mom loves this song. In fact she enjoyed the hold album. Yes,I said album.Showing her age huh?

  • I remember this song from long ago when I wasn't saved. I liked it then, lol. So you know how much more I liked it after I got saved. Myrna has such an anointing unlike the recording artists you see today who get all the recognitiona and awards. They are mostly money motivated. And some of the stuff they are singing now doesn't even sound like gospel.

  • i met myrna summers tonight and i really love her. something about her says she's real

  • yeah---this version sounds more soulful like church

  • my play this all the time whan i was 6

  • this was my moms fav almum along with esther smith an mattie moss....i had to put this album on cd!!!!

  • Our choir used to sing this song (along with many other Myrna Summers songs) ALL of the time. I really miss her work!

  • Star Brown. Are you Myrna Summers?

  • LOL! That is too funny. I am not Myrna Summers :)

  • Wow, someone removed GOD GAVE ME A SONG....not good. I came home today to hear it and its gone....

  • Thank you for posting this. I've have been literally looking for this song for YEARS. Is there a way I can find this song? Once again, I profusely thank you

  • It's very rare. Ebay is always a good place to check. record sellers and vintage music store sell a lot of old gospel on Ebay; sometimes you can a "lot" of old gospel in one bid.

  • To answer your question, Antharvey, Myrna left COGIC when she left Refreshing Spring in 1997. After working with some other "independent" churches, she has been with Reid Temple AME Church for several years.

  • Myrna walks with God and continues to do what God has called her to do. Not seeing Myrna is a reflection of us, COGIC and not her. Blessed are the PURE in heart, for they shall see God. To be straight up, Myrna is the real deal, ANOINTED, and she has a life to back it up. She has an anointing and a respect for the sacredness of music that some "artists" don't have. At my church, a whole generation was "trained" on music and her message, in my house, we grew up on this music and the message.

  • Question: Why is it that you see on you tube a whole lot of COGIC Convocations and musicals and you never see myrna in any of them and she grew up in cogic?

  • You have to note that there are a lot of born and bred COGIC singers/recording artists who you don't see singing at any Convocations or musicals. If you notice, you'll see a lot of the same people doing all the singing.

  • You aint tell no lie there......

  • Thank You So Much for Posting this song My Sister Sang on this Album she was a member of the Star Bethlehem COGICYouth Choir. My sister Angie along with Kristal Murden, Harvey Lewis and a few others where used on this album. I can remember being at the recording session as a little Boy and it brings back so many happy memories of hearing my sister in the hay day of her singing again THank You!!!!!!!

  • I don't exactly remember when Pastor Dupree passed away. I believe it was around 2000.

  • Believe it or not, StarBrown, Myrna got her first shot at choir directing in the Intermediate Choir. She was the assistant to Pastor Tim Bouknight and the late Pastor Lorenzo Dupree. I believe she was still in high school. She left the Spring in 1997 and went to the Church of the Great Commission (Camp Springs, MD) and Kingdom Worship Center (Towson,

  • When did Dupree pass away?

  • Was Myrna a member of this church? I thought she belonged to GE Patterson's church.

  • Absolutely. Myrna attended Refreshing Spring from early childhood until the 80's. Her mother is the General Church Mother there even now.

It was under the leadership of the late Dr. Archie Headen and the late Prof. Theodore King that her skills as an evangelist and music pioneer were honed. And she came back to Refreshing Spring after she left BB.

If you look at some of my other postings, there are pictures of Myrna at Refreshing Spring throughout her youth.

  • is she no longer there?

  • Currently, she is the Minister of Music at Reid Temple AME in Glenn Dale, Maryland.

  • It's amazing how many people love "Sinner Please". Maybe Myrna will re-record it one day. You know how a little kid always seems to think the words are something else? When I first learned this song, I thought they were saying "Centipede, don't let this harvest pass." I know, it was stupid, but I was only 6 years old. haha

  • Sinner Please is now up!

  • She has already re recorded "Sinner" on her album "Mountain Get Out Of My Way"

  • @Kebbo202

    That's so cute.

  • i love this song...brings back so many memories...i love this album...anybody know how i can purchase old alblum...another song i like on this alblum is "sinner, please don't let this harvest pass....you can sing, myrna!

  • try amazon. com

  • Wow, I remember this in church when I was a kid. I didn't listen to Gospel on radio then so I never knew who recorded tese songs.

  • Oh thank you for posting this song. Oh I am so back in the day right now! I grew up on this good old "real" gospel music and used to pretend to be Myrna Summers at home after church. This is the BEST! I love to hear a choir bust a throw back, it just messes church up!

  • We recorded it on a Saturday night and was right back at church the next day. We sang "I Found Jesus" and the house was wrecked! Pastor Headen never did preach that day (one of the RARE times that happened). Believe it or not, my favorite song on that album was the anthem, "Let My Soul Live".

  • I found Jesus was the song for me on this lp.. For you to have a recording and be back in service the next day in full force means you were brought up right to serve the Lord and honour your committment, not somehting that happens today..... I was raised the same way....

  • If I recall correctly, Roberta wore a leather trench coat with a beige fedora (the girl ALWAYS had style!). She was on her feet, clapping and rocking and singing right along with the choir. She had on pants, and you know how pentecostal churches were about women in pants back then...

  • you've got a great memory.... I'm going to find this album.... I can only imagine the church that you had at this session.. everytime that I would listen to this and hear Myrna's exhortation and hear the saints sceaming and hollering.... I would feel the Holy Ghost EVERYTIME!!!!!!!!

  • I LOVE THIS SONG

  • Myrna is and always will be a BEAST! Not enough recog in this generation(my peers). Twinkie got a lot of vocals from Ree but you can't deny (and she won't either) she listened to Myrna too!

  • Vaughn103, what's here on YouTube isn't the entire song. Some of Jeffrey LaValley's organ expertise isn't on here either. Part of Myrna's exhortation is on the album, but not the entire thing. She went at it for a while. What stopped her was that woman's scream.

  • ok.... I knew there was more and I know that the song was much longer as well.. What was Roberta Flacks response to all that was going on during the session???

  • None of the Clarks had anything to do with this recording. They weren't even there. Roberta Flack was, though. It was during Myrna's exhortation that the woman's broken leg was healed. Unfortunately, Savoy Records didn't think the praise following the song was worth putting on the album, and we all know better than that! Besides, we bucked for a solid hour. It's a pity they weren't doing videos back then...

  • On the album version that I had, this song was much longer and included Myrna's exhortation, I'm going to try to find this album, because I want the entire song.... Where you apart of the choir or just in the audience???? This was history, I would have loved to have witnessed this recording....

  • Kebbo202, who was just a boy at the time, was on the album. I wasn't even embryo at the time :)

  • ok... I know know that I'm not crazy, there is a longer version of this recording....and I'm going to find it..... and Star, I think you were there too and if not you were around...LOL.......

  • What happened to the rest of the song, especially Myrna's exhortation.... that's the highlight of the song?????

  • Myrna is still singing, but she is preaching more nowadays. I was blessed to be one of the youngest singers on "I Found Jesus" and I remember it so well. We recorded it in November, 1975 and right after we recorded that song, this woman (whose leg was broken) screamed because the Lord healed her during the recording and she commenced to buckin'. To StarBrown1: I'm Myrna's cousin and Pastor Bouknight's youngest son, Kevin.

  • To Kebbo202: I'm the mother of the infant you are always trying to steal :)

  • Did Dr.Clark Produce this recording? and is Twinkie on the organ for this session?

    Thanks man.

  • Thank God that A. Jeffrey LaValley was on the organ for the session. Where would I be if not for him playing for Myrna Summers? Oh, God, thank YOU!

  • can you please tell me where i can find her old songs from this album...i like "sinner, please don't let this harvest pass...

  • Did Twinkie Clark write this song?

  • No. Myrna Summers wrote this song in the 70s and recorded it in 1976.

  • Thank you for posting this. My sister has this album and she is going to let me have it so that I can put it on my hardrive!!! THanks so much. I miss those days.

  • does she really have a degree in music?

  • Thank You Thank You. O How I Love This Song. It's what I grew up on. The Church we had @ Refreshing Springs. I always THEN and EVEN NOW listen for Myrna to SNAP her Fingers LOL. It's even bring back the Revival Caravans with the Dixon brothers, Woolard, Baughnite (Tim), POP HEADEN, WOW amazing....Simply Amazing...

  • The finger snap and the crossed eyes...there's only on Myrna. Those were the days. I actually saw Pastor Timothy Bouknight not too long ago...and he's still singing and preaching up a storm.

  • I used to have this Album back in the 70's - 80's and I played it to death I mean literally played it to death. The woman is awsome. No gospel music like to old time way to really move you. She has such an annointed voice. I'm about to get Happy!

  • YES...."Sinner Please Don't Let This Harvest Pass!!"...excellent suggestion!!!

  • yes...do you know where "sinner, please don't let this harvest pass...oh i would love to hear the whole alblum...i was about 13 or 14 and i remember crying and praising God on this alblum

  • yes please post "Sinner Please Don't Let This Harvest Pass!!!"

  • Yes!!! I barely remembered that, but since you mentioned it!!! bring them all back....

  • ha! you took me way back!

  • Is Myrna Stil Married

  • Why? Are you looking... LOL! Really, I think Evang. Summers might be a little too old for you :) However, if you have rich uncle that's looking, I might be willing to arrange something...

  • Hey ain't nothing wrong with a young man we know how to treat women LOL.

  • Wow. Wow. Believe it or not, it was the music of Myrna Summers that changed my mind about "church music." Thank God for her musician, A. Jeffrey LaValley. He changed my mind about what church musicians should sound like. Star, do you have "Come to Jesus Now"? I bought that album 3 times, and every one of 'em got scratched. Bless you and your ministry of sharing God through Myrna Summers.

  • Yes Sinner please dont let this harvest pass is on here. Ive got to have this album.

  • GOD BLESS YOU!!!!!!

    Thanks for posting this!!!

Please please please post more MYRNA thanks!!!

  • Thanks. You can actually post this whole album and any others you have if you want. People are listening. Trust me.

  • I love this album. Her first version of Sinner Don't Let This Harvest Pass is on here; so, as soon as I get the vinyl converted to MP3--it'll be up.

    Be blessed

  • How can I find the album Myrna recorded with the song "Oh How Precious" which has been recently re-recorded by Ricky Dillard. I used to have the cassette but we all know what happens to them.

  • The original Oh How Precious is on the album, "You Are My Miracle" If you want the album, try eBay or a vintage record store. She also did the song on the GMWA's 25th Anniversary project and that's available on CD.

  • Actually, "Oh How Precious" was originally recorded by Myrna and the Myrna Summers Singers right after "I Found Jesus" was recorded. The original trio was Rose Woods Rosemond, Dottie Felder Jones, and Royce Bouknight. There's a copy of the album in Refreshing Spring's History & Heritage Room.

  • yes...please can you find "sinner, please don't let this harvest pass"...i actually love this whole album but that song just have you in tears and you would want to give your life to Christ after hearing it....i think many people in 2008 will be saved just from hearing that song....
