I've said this in other vids, but I'll say it again.
CBS Radio has been making the most stupidest decisions ever! First, 97.1 FM Talk in LA was flipped to Top 40, then 92.3 K-Rock in NYC was flipped to Top 40 aswell, now WBCN is replaced with Hot AC? What the hell? And why does 98.5 have to be sports? I rather have them switch frequencies, plus sports doesn't go with FM. Fuck CBS Radio! But I'm glad CBS Radio hasn't messed with its Las Vegas stations... yet.
I agree with you so much on this. It's been two days and I still can't believe this station is gone.
I love sports like everyone else, but enough is enough. I don't like it so much that I would want it to be at the expense of a legendary/groundbreaking rock station. This *is* a music city just as much as a sports city.
All of this makes me want to start my own station someday, seriously. What a freaking joke.
Listeners and sponsors can affect change just ask Steve Lavelle.
He was canned by CBS CORPORATE, but the WBZ management and listeners said no way this ain't happening!!!
However I'm not sure how old you are but what was left of the REAL BCN died in the mid 90s.
Until this weekend we hadn't heard anything close to the REAL BCN since and it was fitting that Bradley as the only REAL BCN jock left was able to ride it out till the end.
definitely know what it's like to have one of the few if not only rock stations get changed to a sports station -_-' to my surprise when i was actually listening to the radio i found out that my favorite station was bought out by espn. not happy.
Who in Boston listens to a sports station that's not named WEEI? I don't even live in Boston but love radio so much that I put a vid up on this. EEI is a regional sports radio network throughout New England. It can do this because they're the top rated sports station in the country.
Plus these idiots have this notion that the best way to bring in ratings these days is to cater to the teen crowd. That's why NY, LA, Vegas, and Indy now have MULTIPLE Top 40 stations.
My thoughts exactly! A few times, I'd be driving around with friends and we'd be interested in how the game was going, and our first reaction would always be "Tune to 850 for a second."
I've put sports videos on my page but I hardly listen to sports radio any more because they go over the top a lot as if they have no life outside of sports.
Plus, get this, now message boards are saying that WEEI could now start simulcasting on 93.7 but this is only bulletin board material for now.
<<< part 1 The top 10 1) Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana 2) Bulls on Parade - Rage Against the Machine 3) Hallelujah - Jeff Buckley 4) Love Will Tear us Apart - Joy Division 5) Paranoid Android - RadioHead 6) Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen 7) The Last Goodbye - Jeff Buckley 8) Under the Bridge - Red Hot Chilli Peppers 9) Everlong - Foo Fighters 10) Stairway to Heaven - Led Zeppelin. Several of these bands would have been played on Triple J before any other stations.
There is a great station here in Australia, broadcast nationally, government owned and aimed at the "Youth" market, called Triple J.
It never plays Disney music, it broadcasts songs as recorded by the artist, so if there is strong language that language gets played, before the government banned it, the station played "Fuck the Police" by Public Enemy.
Recently they had a poll of the Hottest 100 songs of all time.
I whole heartedly agree with you! However, I felt 'BCN was already going downhill after some of their better DJs left, like Melissa and Nik. River raves were already gone, as well as the Call-In with Bob Lobel and Nik. Anyone remember that infamous front page herald photo of Bob with those two girls in hand, all thanks to Nik?
Eh, that's true. But at the same time, it's still worth having around. It's like SNL -- yeah, it sucks now, but it was once this pioneering machine and we know it'll bounce back eventually.
WBCN did a lot for little Boston bands like the Cars, Aerosmith, and Boston. It started playing U2 in the States, and BCN's Carter Alan authored several books on U2. Anyone ever heard of any of these bands? Then you know how important WBCN is. I can't believe CBS is trying to close it. I hope CBS reconsiders. And having it broadcast on the web is NOT the same thing, because it won't have the revenue to have high quality shows. Please reconsider CBS!
I'M from Massachusetts and WBCN is the best station hands down. It's about the only station I listen to...they play the best tunes and have got good djs that are funny. way better than WAAF!
Wow! Another one bites the dust. Strangely WBCN was pretty cool in my day and it was refreshingly different than the top forty. Sadly all things must pass. Another era has gone and faded away. Reminds me of the Boston Tea Party where my friends and I would go to listen to some live music and at that time there was this obscure band called Chicago Transit Authority playing horns and I said to my friend nice horns huh? He was too stoned to really acknowledge but I knew he could could feel it
Thats alright BCN sucked anyways. AAF is much better.

BCN also played Nirvana "Teen Spirit" before any other station.
I remember hearing it on "Heavy Metal From Hell" some six months before it broke and was being played hourly on AAF.

Philly had Eagle106 and Y100. Two great great stations that didn't play the same rock over and over again.
I still remember listening to them on air the last few seconds. They were partying and screaming then just dead silence. It sux and I feel yr pain.
