Well, it's a spoiler, but since you seem like you want to know I'll tell you. Mitsuki wins a trip to America to vist Eichi. She goes to one of Eichi relatives there, but sadly Eichi isn't there because he died. They told Mitsuki that Eichi had a car accident and didn't make it, killing him along with his foster parents.

Yes, she is. I read that Mitsuki's grandmother stole Meroko's lover and so Meroko committed suicide in the rain because of it. They don't mention it in the anime though.
