this method is bs. The only thing you need to reset a windows password, is to use a special cd that boots from bios after burning a specific iso files. what if I cannot from a CD OR USB? (Which is my problem since my bios is locked and has restricted those boot options). I can only boot from Ethernet or NETWORK since that's all allowed. How will this work with those other methods?

@staplesversion If you dont know the password to unlock the BIOS then I am guessing this is a work PC. If that is true, the reason there is a lock on the BIOS is to prevent you from enabling these features to keep you from hacking their system.

If you have a password set in the BIOS, this wont work mate... you'll have have to clear the CMOS settings.

More than 9 times out of 10 it's done through a jumper on the motherboard. You'll see two or three pins near the battery... if it has two pins, just put a jumper on it for around 30 secs. If it has 3 pins, move the jumper from pins 1 and 2 to pins 2 and 3 for 30 seconds. Make sure the power is unplugged when your doing it or it wont work.

It definitely sounds like you've only copied sethc.exe to the c:\ and not replaced sethc.exe with cmd.exe, that's the only reason you're still seeing sticky keys after pressing shift 5 times.

At the command prompt, make sure you use the command:

copy /y c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe c:\windows\system32\sethc.exe

On it's own.

That should be it ;)

copy c:\windows\system32\sethc.exe c:\ is the command you should type in the cmd prompt. What it does is copy the sethc.exe file over to c:\ , to back it up. Then you use the command:

copy /y c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe c:\windows\system32\sethc.exe to replace the sethc.exe with cmd.exe, which then allows you to bring up the cmd prompt at the login screen by pressing shift 5 times, instead of the StickyKeys config window. Then type: net user ur_user_name new_password

Boot from Windows DVD/PE and access the cmn prompt.

Find the drive letter of the partition where Windows is installed. XP/Vista is normally C:\, Win7 is normally D:\

copy c:\windows\system32\sethc.exe c:\

copy /y c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe c:\windows\system32\sethc.exe

Reboot to windows

At the logon screen, press the SHIFT key 5 times.

You will see a cmd prompt, enter the following command to reset the password

net user your_user_name new_password (replace with ur user name and new pass)

"copy /y c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe c:\windows\system32\sethc.exe"

it replaces sethc.exe with cmd.exe, keeping the name sethc.

After you've gave the command, navigate to the system32 directory by typing

"cd c:/windows/system32" - Next type "dir /p" to look look through the directory contents, make sure sethc.exe is the same size as cmd.exe (about 301,568).

Make sure you reboot to windows, it wont work in the command line.

easier way to bypass the password is thru a system reboot by simply just going into system setup and changing your computer start up to boot from a CD in which you will use your windows X-P,vista,7 etc. and that should do that trick but if you want to bypass it without deleting /formatting pc then check (the pirate bay .o r g )and to find some of the software britec uses for free. :D
