  • never underestimate the listening public

  • wow the bassline is so amazing!!

  • the edge is using a epiphone!? i must be wrong, strange

  • THIS IS SO OVERATED.PLEASE PEOPLE.

  • you crazy

  • @mick788194 you're entitled to your opinion, but I believe many, even MOST, would disagree.... you can have your Justin Bieber though.:)

  • I don't think there is a way to stop U2.

  • I think this is the best version of Breathe of all I've heard. Adam Clayton's bass is spectacular.

  • well you should hear the version of breathe at fordham university that is just as good and it's a raw feed

  • I really wish that during the talking lines of this song they would use one of those vocal distortion thingys, would make it sound cool for live versions.

  • great to be irish is lomsa eh

  • U2 is AMAZING!!!

  • Definitely one of the best Breathes to date.

  • 5:20 woman in blue= fish out of water :D

  • maybe she was a bodyguard

  • totally..she sure looks like an uptight bitch.....lol

  • Although i found the new album good it wasnt not as good as atuclb but better then htdaab

  • music is so subjective....i liked all the albums, but prefer htdaab over atuclb if i have to choose...it's all great tho....but i still maintain Breathe and Magnificent are two of the best songs they've ever made

  • wow, i couldn't disagree more -- this song and Magnificent are two of the best songs they've ever put out.....no doubt about that. Maybe you're just like lots of others who want them to be exactly the same as 20 yrs ago....things change pal - and for them, for the better.

  • What's that song about?

  • now that i've heard the album , I really have no hesitation in saying this is my favorite song on it. there are a few great songs, but my initial impression is that it isn't as strong as Atomic Bomb.

    just my opinion.

i will say though that Bono's stage performance may be better than ever....he can't just rely on his late 20something appearance, so he uses his charisma and maturity to own the stage more.

  • This is arguably the best song on the new album! I love the lyrics and the chords, especially the last verse. This performance is great, although Bono changes up the lyrics slightly in the first bridge and doesn't have the same intonation as he does on the record, of which I think is the better version. I am going to see them live in September and I cannot wait until they play this song! I am a U2 fan for life!

  • It's a great song, but the Edge needs more distortion on his guitar when he's playing those chords in the verse.

  • So you are a better guitar player than the Edge?? STFU pls! Best guitar player in the world!

  • No. I never said that. What I'm saying is that the verse doesn't push or punch the melody, while the chorus carries the melody perfectly because it's supposed to be light and atmospheric. It's a good song, I love it, I just think it would be better that way.

  • Maybe you should stop thinking!

  • That's a convincing statement. Thank you for enlightening us.

  • First of all, you're a moron.

Secondly, there are a lot of people that believe this song has Christian undertones in it's lyrics.

    Third, it's a PHENOMENAL song.

    Lastly, you're a moron.

  • almost lawyeresque in your summing up!! lol nicely done...

  • you're a turd, U2 is awesome and have put out great music for longer than you've been alive

  • They are a great band, no doubt about it. Peace.

  • There exists a small handful of bands that can sound as good or better live as they do in the studio -- U2 is one of them.

Their performance at the SuperBowl is still the stuff of legend and shames most of today's lip-syncing posers.

Sounds like they went back to their roots here, too. Good to hear. Literally.

  • "The best seats for their upcoming tour are $30"

In what world???? You are dreaming. I just got mine y'day, and they weren't $30.

  • i'd say they were more likely to be $130!!!

bono is an arch-hypocrite, pushes global economic equality, but moves his tax affairs over to holland so he doesn't have to pay any tax over here in ireland.

that's why most people here hate him, he's a hypocrite!!!!!!

  • ok i don't like much u2 except early stuff but this is good..and i like metal

  • Genius

  • Damn! Does this mean U2 is relevant again? After the flop of Atomic Bomb I had very low hopes for this album... but damn! Fine form here.

  • Atomic Bomb wasn't bad, probably their best album after Achtung Baby.

  • The new U2 album is the best one yet, its the only music I've been listening to for the last 4 weeks.

  • Comment removed

  • absolutely incredible... good to seem them on such fine form.

  • You must be joking, I didnt think the album would be up to much but this rocks the fucking house

  • Bono didn't ask, he invited them to stand. They got to thier feet cos they were feeling it.

  • He asked them to stand.

  • Please. I'm a college-educated musician with 20 straight years of playing under my belt, I've seen and studied with some with the most talented musicians in the world, and seeing U2 Live at the Meadowlands was one of the most profound musical moments of my life. Lumping U2 in with Britney Spears and the Jonas Brothers is so asinine that it barely deserves commentary. Just Listen to Letterrman's intro.

  • Malmsteen??? you fucking twit

The Edge purposely avoided as he so eloquently called it the "guitar gymanstics" as it it is the musical equivalent of who can jerk off quicker...who gives a shit douche?

it's all about creating different sonic landscapes not who fingertaps faster...no one gives a shit about that ...boring

  • Comment removed

  • yur sick!!! =)

  • @qtcustom1 Just like Russian and Ukrainian Rock, it is more pure than the so called creators of rock, so to speak, the Americans; o yeah, but there are other ones who do it better! Best regards to U2

  • An Cat Dubh

  • IRISH

  • It took at least half-a-dozen listens to U2's new album for me to really appreciate it. I was a big fan in the 80s, but didn't like most of their 90s music (found it to be too self-indulgent). I have come back to them in the '00s because it seems to me they refocussed on what they do best.....incredibly strong songs that are straightforward and uncluttered.

  • Wow, loved that... I wonder if this is something that will appeal more to their older fans like me... has an energy I haven't heard since their october/war/Joshua Tree days.

  • I don't understand all the complaining about this album. I'm listening this song for the very first time, and I find it AMAZING!!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but very seldom, if ever, do Dave's audiences give artists standing ovations.

These dubliners have done it again!!!

  • Bono asks em to stand

  • Whatever you say,shitdick.....go back to smoking crack

  • well i have to say that it is really cool to see there are people with alot of time on their hands to do videos of some crazy funny stuff.

  • Yeah...because Achtung Baby was awful right?

    idiot.

  • plz chek out my californication cover

  • bono looks like axl rose here w/o the pony tail

  • I cannot wait to hear them perform "Moments of surrender" live! What an amazing song!

I see similarities between "Moments of surrender" and 'So Cruel".

  • i am so tired of bono and his god-complex. "biggest band in the world". what does that even mean? they wear their obscene wealth as if theyve completely left their roots behind. and the art for this album just supports all ive said distant, cold, removed, minimal aesthetics for art snobs. no connection to the world at all. unless theyre preaching to the masses below them, or hobknobbing with politicians, or promoting their pretencious crap, they stay comfortably ensconced in their high towers.

  • No one gives a sh*t about how they act as long as they keep making kick** music!

They kick everyone's a** today and they have proven it with "No line on the horizon" that they still are the best!

  • You have received lots of criticism for your own criticism of U2. Its a pity you dont 'see' them.

The problem might be that you have applied 'the ordinary' to the 'extraordinary' and hence come up with the wrong answer.

I dont beleive you can apply todays shallow, self obsessed, dumbed down values to a profound, deeply spiritual musical entity. They apply their 'celebrity' as a currency to help 'the voiceless'.

Since you criticise, it begs the question 'what contribution do you make?'

  • The new album is pure beauty!

In Norway, " No line on the horizon " received pretty rough comments, but I think it's great! Shame they're not coming to Norway...

  • so, yeah, its not a question of "need" in the sense that normal people "need" money for their rent every month. its a different sort of need. the shows they put on are so fracking extravegant and costly, and expensive for "the common person". what they "need" is to keep churning out self-aggrandizing crap that their fans slurp up.

  • The best seats for their upcoming tour are $30.

    So fuck you.

  • i dont agree that "they dont need the money". these guys live the lives of kings. it costs a shitload of money to keep up the lifestyles theyve become accustomed to, as well as to keep their U2-machine functioning.

  • best band ever

  • I have to agree. Their live concerts are the best I've ever been to. There is so much energy and feeling they transmit to the crowd. The Zoo TV concert I went to was amazing and this is coming from someone over sixty LOL. Oh well they've been around for thirty years and have made some kick azzzzzzz music no one has matched. I still have their viynl lps LOL.

  • I am excited to have them back! I wish the would one come to Greece to perform!

  • Its written right there on the wall of the studio where Coldplay writes and records its hit songs under the title Band Rules: 6. Always keep the mystery. Not many interviews. And it is rare for the multiple-Grammy nominated band to open up for the media, but frontman Chris Martin bends the rules when he gives Steve Kroft a candid interview and lets 60 MINUTES cameras into their private studio.

    BUT I AIN'T A WANKER-BONO!

  • U2ROCKS!

  • God damn they are ridiculously good in this.

  • So U2 was in NY for a whole week on the Letterman show to sell a CD. Where was the so called "greatest band ever" during the 9/11 Concert For New York City...

    Just wondering???

  • They performed "Walk On" live via satellite from London for the benefit concerts for the "fallen heroes charity raise" event for the 9/11 families.

  • Nice Dylan-influenced song.

  • not a bias U2 fan like some who think the ground they walk on is blessed. The new album is okay not great.

  • When I listened to the album, it didn't catch me, except for Breathe. The intro's just seemed to 'contrived'. But I just wasn't patient enough. Unknown Caller is amazing. And, live, Magnificent is epic, they reduced the unnecessary intro. And of course, Breathe holds up great. And more to be revealed perhaps.

  • Their new album is simply beautiful. The more I listen to it, the more I appreciate it (something I did not experience in the last 2 albums).

Rich with emotions, textures, layers and atmosphere (thanks to Brian Eno).

    Moments of Surrender

    No line

    Magnificent

    Fez Being Born

    Unknown caller

    Stand Up

    All these songs are exceptional.

  • I agree 100%. Love this album.

  • I have a Grammy. She's married to my Grampy

  • This is one of my favourite songs on the album, great to hear it live.....saw the first performance of it on "Friday Night with Jonathan Ross" last week- loved it :)

  • i heard bono's mom was a traveler

  • Man - they tore the roof off with a bunch of NON U2 fans! Any fucking moron that questions the fact that they are anything but the greatest band ever now need to have their heads examined.

  • twochordcool, never a true word was said my friend amen

  • what a beautiful guitar. great song

  • Man that IS rock and roll - anyone who says otherwise is a fucking idiot!

  • Bono struttin' his stuff like the badass he is!

VERY confident and bold lyric this one!

    :)

  • will always be the best in the world

  • wow, now ive seen it all, a rabid u2 fan claims u2 is better than LZ....lol.

  • no line is an ipod album - grows slowly in you. damn the producers that want to grow everything superbig, this is the most intimate work of U2 - cherish it as it should be . peace :-)

  • ::: I'm AMAZED of how many U2-haters LIKE A LOT to watch their videos...leave us alone, and go bother some other fans.

  • because it was on the first few pages of youtube...not because we were searching for it...i like letterman, there you go.

  • I wasnt totally convinced about the album at first _ but after quite a few listens I am clear that imo it is up there with their best - it really is that good Mike

  • Its entertainment fellas just enjoy, the best live band of all time.

Buy the cd or download it and really listen to it. There are a handful of Artist putting out an entire cd these days.

    Personally think its fantastic.

  • no melody? god youre a fucking idiot. they are not my favourite but give credit where credit is due

  • It's a pretty poor offering from U2 I'm afraid, good band but not loving the new album. I know I'll get loads of "whaaa, well I mean...." but it's a personal thing, I'm just not loving the new one, sorry dudes!

  • "no line..." is a great record. maybe one of their best. keep on listening

  • WICKED at 3:01 "jujuman jujuman" timed perfectly for the cameraman!

  • But where is the hidden piano / keyboard guy?

  • The more I listen to NLOTH the more I'm starting to like it. This reminds me a lot how I felt when "Pop" was released. U2 has established a pattern here. They release a great album ("Actung Baby" or ATYCLB), then a strong album ("Zooropa" or HTDAAB) and then a relatively weak album ("Pop" or NLOTH). Expect U2 greatness in 2013!

  • NLOTH IS a GREAT album.

  • Superb performance !!!!!

  • just wait till these fellas are the age of the Rolling Stones! brilliant rock NEVER DIES!

  • BOOM theyre back. Thank god.

  • What a brilliant vocal performance, especially the "sing your heart" part. They've still got it!

  • Now that is a rock band.

  • sounded like a popband to me.

anyone who thinks u2 is rock, is deluded, lol.

  • You dont know the the breadth of rock then!!! they dont get 22 grammys for nothing and critics dont see quality when it slaps them in the face. Great song

  • Maybe, you need to clean the wax out of your ears.

  • no, u2 fans need to stop pretending this is rock and pretend they are cool because of that.

this is wuss pop with an electric guitar, at best. and this song, if any other band wrote it, it would be laughed at, but because some famous folks do it, its amazing?

    get real.

  • What a SORRY pinhead you are. Tell me asshole, who's better? Can't wait for a laugh. Please don't tell me some ridiculous band that can't even carry U2's jockstrap.

  • U2 is not rock, everyone in the rock scene knows this, rainbowpal3 is correct.

Rock is Led Zeppelin, Guns n Roses, Deep Purple, not this sissy band of poseurs who are not more than avergae in anything. Which is why people like you idolize them...they are middle of the road, non-offensive pop.

  • Edge was in "It Might Get Loud" with James Patrick Page, so I think he knows a few things about rocking out. There's no reason why U2 has to be Zeppelin or anyone else. They've established their own sound...just like any band worth anything would do.

  • Where exactly did I say they should be Led Zeppelin...which they couldn't even come close to if they gave their best shot btw.

Fact is this is not rock, nobody says you shouldn't enjoy it but don't call it something which it is not.

  • ...It's still rock-n-roll to meeee....

  • It IS rock you asshole. Rock comes in varying degrees of "heavyness". Some people might call U2 rock and Led Zeppelin heavy metal.

What bothers me about stupid fuckers like you is you don't have a deep and intimate knowledge of U2's entire catalog like U2 fans do. If I wanted to waste more time with you I could list quite a few U2 songs that rock HARD.

And maybe that's what makes U2 THE GREATEST band EVER - their music is VERY diverse - they don't have just one "type" of song.

  • It is Pop and you can like that, why so ashamed of it?

  • It is Pop acting like it is rock, so middle of the road guys like you can pretend you are rebels, while it is just safe and boring ;)

  • U2 is not rock because the guitarist played with a genuine rock guitarist somewhere in the past.

And yes, no one said they shoukd be LZ, they never can be lol. But just call a rose a rose. U2 is a pop band that poses as a rock band.

  • Or maybe U2 is a political party that poses as a pop band.

  • Because it is not thrashy, head-banging rock, does not mean it is not rock.

This is pure classic/modern rock with 4 pieces electric guitar, vocals, bass and drums.

Your definition of "rock" is f*cked up and needs serious re-working.

  • it is pop at best.

  • Well asshole, anytime you want to put the 20 best Led Zeppelin or Guns and Roses songs up against the 20 best U2 songs I'll be happy to humiliate you.

  • well lz and gnr ruined their career with drugs and sex...

  • WHATEVER man - fact is they were one trick ponies that lasted a decade or less - U2 is STILL making PHENOMENAL music 30 years later - so fuck off haters and naysayers.

  • oh i thought you were insulting U2 lol

  • where us the phenomenal music? i hear pop songs the backstreet boys could do better ;P

  • So therefore their music is less? Nice reasoning, but then again, you are a U2 fan, so expected, hehe.

  • I'll start with Stairway to Heaven....let's hear a better U2 song, numbnut :D

  • ''Bad" Joshua Tree

  • Is that it? You think Bono would say, yep my Tree is better than Stairway?

if you believe that, you are living on another planet.

I await another U2 song which is not shoe polish music :P

  • Joshua Tree IS a better ALBUM than ZOSO is. ZOSO sounds dated as fuck.

  • if you like cute pop songs yes, then you might want joshua ;)

  • Time magazine called "Achtung Baby" as the best U2 album and all polls show Acthung Baby was the best album with Joshua Tree a close second. Joshua Tree was not revolutionary. Achtung Baby started "grunge rock" and electronica mixed with rock music in early 90s.

  • I LOVE BOTH albums but they are both very different type albums.

And I LOVED Achtung Baby at a time when I HATED the grunge sound - they were a breat of fresh air AWAY from the grunge sound.

  • I hated Achtung Baby when I first listened to it. It became my most favorite.

Both "Dismantle" and "All that you can't" vanished in my library somewhere collecting dust. They were too simply, dull and radio-friendly.

I believe U2 can maybe produce another "Joshua Tree", but they never will be able to produce another 'Achtung Baby".

That album was almost too brilliant for U2 themselves.

  • It's your VERY BIG loss to cast aside ATYCLB, and (ESPECIALLY) HTDAAB.

  • Sorry. The "I love you and you love me" theme of the two albums do not cut it for me.

I know why U2 did it. Just to play safe to regain the FM radio friendly generation and then shock them with this experimental album once they regain their confidence.

  • That's a moronic idiotic theory you got there - and you're wrong about those albums - but that's your loss.

  • When has U2 ever "played safe" or tried to be radio friendly? Do you know anything about this band at all? They evolve as men and as musicians. Their music reflects that. People want them to be 20 years old and playing "Sunday Bloody Sunday" at Red Rocks forever. For fuck's sake. Let it go. Everything they did then and do now is genius. Change won't kill ya brother. Roll with it.

  • All that you can't has the most safest radio friendly songs I have ever heard. Stuck in a moment, Walk On, Wild Honey. No one cares about these songs. No one associates U2 with these songs simply because no one remembers them.

  • walk on and stuck in a moment are alright. wild honey is poo though

  • Only Beautiful Day is the memorable song that still is heard a lot.

All the other songs in the last U2 album went down the cr*pper and could not stand the test of time.

  • the problem with beautiful day is that it radio friendly and played to death. who cares really i have my favourites you have yours

acrobat is probably one of their great tunes that no many people have heard

  • Yes, Acrobat is one of my most favorite U2 songs that was most underrated.

  • Ultraviolet and So Cruel bot again from Achtung Baby were amazing underated songs. The whole of the Achtung Album is amazing but this is bloo** close. Love this new album :-)

  • What about "With or without you", "Still haven't found what I am looking for", "Where the streets have no name" and "Desire"?

  • Yeah that too. Too many great U2 songs before 1991 to count. Haha.

  • @amy - ah hem: the previous two singles vertigo and 'boots are up there with franz ferdinand in radio-safe-ness --i have to agree with SpeedKiz on that one.

to think U2 walked away with a 'best alternative album' grammy back in the day would shock most.

  • I have to disagree. For one thing, it's hard to shock people in this day and age. Second, and most importantly, U2 doesn't put out anything they consider "crap music." If they aren't feeling it, they won't release it. They don't need the money. They're already famous. They have a huge, loyal fan base. What would be their motivation for churning out radio friendly regurgitated pop garbage? Riddle me that.

  • i love you just for that comment lol!!

  • great song but not from joshua tree

  • stair way to heaven is about someone on the stairway to heaven: someone who is going to die early

  • Yeah asshole, and that's pretty much where it ends.

I think both Pride and New Years Day are better, but that is my opinion.

    List the next 19 asshole.

  • cute pop songs yes, but we are talking rock songs. name 1 real rock song ;)

    dork, lol.

  • 'Stairway' is dogshit. What a fucking stupid, pointless, up-it's own-arse pile of shit.

  • fucking great!!!!!!!!!

  • already a classic
