Criminals are like vermin, if you don't kill them, we will come back. Although I'm not against the use of non-lethal means to fend off an aggressor, I don't believe it's the most optimal way. Just because one has a gun it doesn't mean that one is always forced to kill the assailant. Also, you are not forced to be armed. That Bible verse you quoted was out of context and was also quoted wrong. It says those who live by the sword die by the sword, not MUST die by it. The word must changes it's meaning. Optimism and good will can not stop crime or violence, but simply displaying a lethal weapon WITHOUT A SHOT FIRED can prevent these things. I understand where you are coming from. The thing is I had someone who broke into our house a couple years back. I had a gun in the house I did shoot him but I did not shoot to kill. I shot his legs. I did enough damage so the cops could get him. This guy came into my house with the intent to kill me. We can ban guns but the problem is people will just smuggle them into our country anyway. Criminals are like vermin, if you don't kill them, we will come back. Although I'm not against the use of non-lethal means to fend off an aggressor, I don't believe it's the most optimal way. Just because one has a gun it doesn't mean that one is always forced to kill the assailant. Also, you are not forced to be armed. After all, someone has to be the cannon fodder, the meat for the predators. The best weapon on the long run to prevent the birth of new criminals is education

@dancoy09 yea we all know who has the guns in your country of UK, the cops and the criminals, as a matter of fact, violent crime is A LOT higher where you live (UK) than here in the states. because everyone knows you people aren't armed. there are a few counties in Texas, if you live there, it is required that you own at least one gun, guess what? the lowest violent crime rate in the US, is in those few counties.

I used to be anti-gun until I realised that the bad guys can always get hold of guns and it's the honest people who are restricted from owning them. You say you don't support the use of guns and you quote the bible regarding dying by the sword. The bottom line is, if a person attacks your home at night and they have a gun and you are LUCKY enough to have a gun in the house and you can stop them by shooting them (maim or kill), and you saved your family, you are a hero.!!

I'm pro gun and I even believe that there would be a lot less crime if every responsible, law abiding citizen could carry a gun wherever they wished. Two examples I'd like to point out is that mass shootings always happen in so called gun-free zones like malls, churches and schools where there's no gun carrying law abiding citizens to shoot back...
