  • I played the game for 10 hrs and i said fuck this

  • The wizard is secretly god.

  • 80s arcade games are great. I used to play this and Time Pilot all the time at the local Acme. They don't even have arcades at food stores anymore. Damn shame.

  • So now we know were stephen hawking got his voice....

  • Man, I used to waste hundreds of hours playing Gauntlet in the game room of my college campus instead of studying. Haha. Good memories.

  • midways arcade treasures is a golden game this is one of my favs

  • That was Cult, used to play it with the Elf,1 coin 11/2 Hours. Extra Magic Power and extra Speed were the Best Items for him

  • I haven´t seen such bravery.

  • what a great game. my friend got this as a birthday gift from his "uncle jewels" in the 6th grade in 1987. we played this for many hours on the nintendo NES. great times! i had no idea the arcade version was so much better. now i enjoy this in MAME :)

  • I have this on PS2. Via Midway Arcade Treasures of course.

  • i cant find it in the library did they get rid of it ????????

  • As a teen used to watch the old people play this in smokey dingy arcades!! Looked good to me!!!

  • LOL! 0:36-0:38 Warrior gets his ass gang raped by a shitload of ghosts!

  • XD love how the monsters are just queing up to fight you and lock on to you like maniacs. 3 people were massacared by a mob of grunts....

  • game narration by Prof Steven Hawkins

  • Eat your food, don't shoot it!

  • Brings back the MEMORIES. :)

  • Is the original arcade game or emulator, the game in video?

  • I remember playing this game in the junior high. I was bad ass. I use to play for a quarter and build up all the health, potions, keys, and magic potions and sell the game for a dollar. he he

  • classic!

  • I love Atari's trademark "tolling bell" coin drop sound.

  • I used to play this at the arcade. Remember the arcade? That was cool. Gamers met other new gamers, the place to be.

  • I played this with my 2 friends it was fun I was the ranger =)

  • Dude, I think I just wet myself.

  • some food can be shot

  • OMG.... i spent sooooo many hours on it.

after a while I used to play the whole day with one coin... increasing health to tens of thousands.... the arcade owner and other players use to hate me. :-)

  • Why does the lady sound like microsoft Sam? xD

  • 4 random people shoving 10 pees in to a machine in a dark smoky room in the downstairs of an arcade - never did me any harm!!!

  • Man this game brings back memories :D

It was so fun healing urself as much as u wanted too :P

  • Gauntlet was the game that taught me not to shoot food.

  • Countless coins were spent playing this video game as a kid way back in the 1980s. ha

  • omg. gauntlet. What I spent a majority of my life on. Thanks Mame.

  • My friend and I got addicted to this game. Soooo much fun with more than one person!

  • Wizard is about to die...

  • Those ghosts are basically gang raping the hell out of your character.

  • You guys have no idea how popular this game was unless you were there... people surrounded this machine like it was a god.

  • *Insert character here* is about to DIE!

  • Use magic to kill death? Should have told my grandpa that 4 years ago...

  • That's funny. I hear anal sex, but I don't see anal sex. Spooky.

  • Was there ever an ending to this game? I can remember riding my bike over to the arade @ Johns Hopkins University just to play this game bak in the 80's.

  • @upinflamezzz - Technically, the game had no ending. The game ended when your character's health ran out. However, the best players never ran out of health. They were only limited by their endurance and the hours of the gaming center. A friend of mine played 9 hours straight once.

  • @tydoggy808 I used the shift cheat on the Spectrum to get to the end of the tape... The final screen....

    INSERT TAPE AND PRESS PLAY

  • tray-sure

  • I used to play this on my Atari with my bro when I was a kid. Whenever he died, I always nicked his bunch of keys!

    =)

  • where did you get this? The last time I played this game was in 1987!

  • 1 needs food badly!

  • 1 person shot the potion!

  • Nice one. Cheers.

  • How come at one arcade i played at you started off with 200 health yet at another you started with 2000!!!!! Answers please.....

  • @chump5874 Just about every arcade has "Dipswitch settings". These allow the owner to change certain parts of the game like difficulty, how many lives you get or how much money you have to spend to play one game.

  • @classicgamevideos I still enjoy popping in Midway Arcade Treasures for GameCube to play Gauntlet mainly since GameCube has 4 controller ports to support 4-player, I can use NES and SNES controllers via Retroport controller converter adapters I purchased from the Retrozone website so I can use Arcade Sicks made for both those systems (such as the NES Advantage for example) for that arcade feel, and most GC games are dirt cheap and I only paid $4 for Midway Arcade Treasures at GameStop.

  • @loomp Advertise much?

  • @classicgamevideos How can I Advertise something that's some odd years old I'm just telling it how it happened, to be honest the people who work at the monopoly called GameStop are dicks and as for Retrozone they need all the publicity they can get since the cater to the retro gamer like me and if they can make it to where I don't have use the crappy Gamecube controller and use my NES Advantage instead and other Retro Controllers then more power to them. People have their own thing.

  • @chump5874 Dipshit arcade operators used to pull stunts like this all the time, including removing the ability to gain free lives/games, increasing game difficulty, and much more to the point of making the games not worth bothering with.

The responsibility for the decay of arcades does not rest solely on modern home consoles!

  • @chump5874 When I was young I would attempt to play games I love (or just discovered) only to discover they wouldn't work, were worn out, never took my coin, etc., because the "operators" and "owners" were just cheap-ass douchebags who wouldn't fix broken games. Basically made the games expensive decorations.

  • @chump5874 no there is a button to heal urself (lil known secret) i got health to 9999999 or something b4, it takes 4 ever for u 2 die if u do this :\ but i talking about ps2 atari classic version

  • @chump5874 also how much money you put in gauntlet increases you health, so the mrroe coins, the more life you stat with. if you emulate this in MAME you will be able to open the dip settings menu and tweak the settings like chump5874 said

  • I was addicted to this for a few years as a kid then Quake came along and took over the rest of my life lol =p

  • Excellent a true classic

  • "Remember, don't shoot food". That part always makes me laugh. I aleay shot the food just to hear the voice go "Warrior shot the food" XD

  • OH OW UH OOH OH OW UH OOH OH OW UH OOH OH OW UH OOH OH OW UH OOH OH OW UH OOH OH OW UH OOH (2 hours later.......)

(*0*) AHHHHHHH.........Game Over.........Now let's do it again in Sex remix!!

  • Remember playing the real arcade game back in 83. we had a lot of fun.

    We also played Tutankamon.

  • they had this arcade at my family doctor's office... my brother and I would plug quarters in whenever we were waiting for the other to be done. ah, good times. WARRIOR IS ABOUT TO DIE.

  • i haven't thought of this game in years in 86 i was a 15 year old video game addict who once played this game on 1 quarter as the wizzard for 14 hours to see if there was an end , there wasn't, the levels just reversed themselves. i can't remember how many different levels untill they started to reverse but at the end of 14 hours when they were closing the arcade i had gotten to level 577.

  • 1 person's mother never brought him this game when he was a child, no need to be bitter about it.

  • This game was so cool. You could have 4 people playing at once. I remember it being so creepy. Mostly the sounds are what made it so creepy. I loved it.

  • I loved this game. Warrior needs food, BADLY!

  • Comment removed

  • I think the new games like N3 and Sengoku Basara Samurai Heros have their roots here with all the enemies on the screen.

  • LOL I used to LOVE this game! RED WARRIOR NEEDS FOOD BADLY!

  • i got it on play station 1, hold R1 and/or R2 to rais your health by hundreds or somethin, my memory is bad cuz i havent played it since i was 8 :,V

  • That's awesome sound for a 1985 video game.

  • \m/

  • lol wizard sounds like Grampa Simpson when he dies

  • Awesome game. It's a shame that they tried to change it up when Tengen brought it to the NES and actually give it a story and ending and everything. I love the random levels and all that stuff!!

    "Use magic to kill Death!"

  • "I have not seen such bravery!"

    Best line ever!

  • I remember that to get extra health you just had to put coins in, and what a fantastic device for eating coins it was

  • It's the original Diablo.

  • @DayTripperID I have thought that as well. Im happy knowing that im not alone on that one.

  • @DayTripperID yeah but all started with D&D even though its not a video game

  • 2 memorable sayings-

"Eat your food! Don't shoot it!"

    "That was a heroic effort!"

  • My favourite sound in this game was the 'ping-diddle' that heralded the thief.

  • Ever worry that the voice will say something subliminal "Save potions for... kill your family... later use."?

  • Doesn't the valkyrie's pain sounds sound like she's having sex?

  • @Duvmasta FINALLY someone says it. :)

  • @Duvmasta good marketing idea, that - in a busy arcade

  • @Duvmasta They sound like she doesn't give a crap, but acts so as not to hurt the enemies' feelings.

  • @Duvmasta my mom thought i was watching porn

  • Wizard...all your power will be lost! XD

  • aw man wheres the music?

  • when he runs through the room with alllll the ghosts it sounds like the dude it getting it up the ass

  • save potions for later use, Lol.

  • and when the kids on south park are on the school bus that dude takes out the bunny and cartman says"rember she will she shoot the bunny

  • in the south park episode cartmanland stan and kyle played gauntlet for 19 hours and kyle jumped over a fence and popped his hemmroid and stan said"kyle needs cream badly"

  • This is a great sex voice!

  • @DeniseStCroix HA HA HA HA HA HA HA (Couldn't stop laughing, then fainted) XD

  • OMG IT'S THE INTELLIVOICE MODULE!

  • save potions for later use.... i love this voice

  • omfg i paid microsoft points for this crap and i deleted it so i could have more space in my hdd now its not in the marketplace! wtf i pay for this and now microsoft wants to play conspiracy!

  • I loved this game. I used to collect bottles in order to play this game..

  • got to level 273 once. after all day, I realized that they were just the earlier levels, but insanely harder.

  • How many levels of Gauntlet were there ?

  • @steveN111333 The game does not end. I think what your looking for is how many variations of the levels are there until it starts to repeat. That I do not know.

  • i have this on nes =]

  • Dandy on the Atari was the original

  • Shots do not hurt other players(yet)

  • okay i've never played the arcade version of gauntlet 1 or 2, the NES gauntlet looks REALLY horrible, and has no voices

  • How much money did I pump into that old girl? XD I always loved *Valkrie is about to die!* No new game with 3D graphics or other nonsense that they put in now to make up for lack of pure fun and frustration can ever match those old games :)

  • did anyone ever finish this game? what was the end?

  • @AdamCunningham20 There is no end.

  • @AdamCunningham20 There is never an end. Play until your health reaches zero.

  • "It is noted as the first class-based multiplayer game and first cooperative multiplayer game.[1] Released during the emergence of popularity of other role-playing games like Dungeons & Dragons, the game was a sensation, being one of the first true dungeon crawl arcade games." (Wiki) This game rocked! The very first co-op multiplayer game. I have fond memories of wasted afternoons playing this with friends :)

  • Woulder how much they payed Stephen Hawkings to do the game narration.

  • Back around 1998, my friend RJ and I used to play this. After just one game, he refused to play with me anymore. I got the biggest kick out of hearing the game say "BLUE WIZARD SHOT THE FOOD!" so yeah, I shot all the fucking food lol.

  • Fuck yes, Gauntlet!

  • Straight up quarter munching machine! Great times back then!

  • If you have the Midway Arcade Treasures version of this on PS2. You can repeatedly add health by pressing Triangle repeatedly.

God I miss this series. Gauntlet I, Legends, and Dark Legacy were all great (I haven't played II, III, or IV), but I cannot believe that disgrace, known as Seven Sorrows.

Gauntlet is just so much fun.

  • hilarious strategy @0:35

  • Back in the day, if I had the quarters to blow, I would do that. ^_^

  • Don't shoot the food! 1985. Castle of Golf n Games in Redwood City, CA. It's ON!

  • Wizard needs food badly.

  • My friends and I thought it sounded as if the valkrie moaned orgasmically when injured.

  • ELF NEEDS FOOD BADLY!

  • lol - we bunked off school to play this in the sea-front arcades - one kid could make 10p (one coin) last all day

  • Wow, I played this in the arcades when it was originally released. I loved it! Thanks for the memories. Now if you could just give me back all those quarters too!

  • Remember dont shoot food. lol. Such a sweet game this was.

  • Graphics are so much better than the NES version (one I remember playing) but none of the amazing music like in the NES version.

  • EPIC Sounds.

  • holy shit, nostalgic win!

  • WIZARD NEEDS FOOD BADLY.

  • @danhendricks Blue Wizard is about to die... :)

  • The epicness started here and died with that sad excuse of a game for the xbox and PS2.
