When the air is heated it expands. When they place the cup against your skin, the air inside of it contracts, which causes the suction. That's all I see happening here. I can't see any relation of this kindergarten experiment with "killing bacteria" or healing in any other manner. Please explain further.

Can't SkeptiTroll/JPRIchardson ask a question with out being a prick about it. He actually has a legitimate question. Placing the flame in the cup creates a simple vacuum. Cupping is appropriate for old injuries esp. trauma related that refuse to go away. It is also used extensively for colds and flus through out Vietnam, South East Asia, China, and the Muslim world. Just because something is outside of your experience does not mean it is worthless.
Sorry but I definitely can't respect you since you never give straigth answers and you have been unrespectful to me. As I told you several days ago, my comments are not for you. You are an AP paractitioner!! You make a living out of conning people into this crap!!! I am obviously NOT going to change your mind!!!! People, TCM does not work, if you feel sick, go visit a real doctor!
this man is professional also it heals pain from injuries that trap the nerve into non blood supply and causes atrophy to nerve and tendons. this cupping heals the nerve by supplying blood to injured nerve that cause pain.
There are some areas that are really dark, and some that are really light, and the areas that were suctioned and became the darkest are I guess the areas where the injury was? Cause some regained color almost immediately. Interesting.
I'm sorry, but this does not look healthy. could you explain why the cups are left on long enough to leave marks? I'm assuming the marks will not go away for at least a week or so.
i have had cupping, the 1st time i was really scared but the results were amazing.the feelin of wellbeing and the ellimination of toxins in the body was incredible.bad blood or stagant blood comes out like liver.really well worth a go
@unicorns1978: I was the patient in this treatment and was truly amazed when the darkest circles appeared. These were the areas that I suffered the most chronic pain and removing the deep tissue stagnant blood contributed immensely to restoring range of motion and use of my leftside shoulder and neck. The hickies were gone in about a week and to this day I still have my range of motion. MKG
So what does it feel like when the cups go on? Do you feel the heat or just a pressure? Does it pull other toxins out like a massage or is it just for blood and circulation? Eastern medicine is SO where it's at. <3 ^_^
@BadAnnie:when the cups are applied it is like a suction cup, no heat, the flame burns off the oxygen in the cup to create the suction. Whether it is toxins, stagnated blood or chi or something science has not labeled yet, some thing(s) are removed to promote healing circulation! MKG
As a massage therapist, I have recently started trying new modalities of treatment. Accupuncture along with cupping seems to be close as far as release of stagnation. While I agree that simply placing a cup on the skin and leaving it in place is not painful, if the cup is placed in an area of high stagnation, such as the neck and shoulder area, and the area is then massaged with the cup, it can indeed be very painful. The relief is worth any pain. Just learn to control your breathing.
I had a crazy Korean Dr. do this name Dr.Chai in Hawaii and after that he stabbed my mutiple times with a needle to take out some blood, and FUCK it hurt like hell!!!!!!!!!!!he is no longer found in Hawaii. and is hiding. be aware of crazy bizzare Chinese-Korean cupping treatment!!!
Actually I too have been acupunctured by someone who wasn't skilled. It hurt and left some long marks on my body, not only that my illness barely improved. A couple of years later I found out that this man was just learning from books and never studied at a school. He was practicing illegally! Careful with scams! Today I am going to a real certified clinic and I love it.
I have a shoulder injury since 4 weeks back. It happened during working out and I stretched my left front shoulder by stretching it too much in an exercise. It's much deeper than the first week, doesn't hurt to move or anything just if I do heavy presses. Do you think this can be effective for my injury?
GradieGreen, not painful at all. when a cup is attached (this occurs by suction) there is no steam. to localize and bring out the area of injury, the cup is dragged across the skin which pulls on the skin and can be uncomfortable if done too fast. there is add'l info throughout this comment string! thx
in my case, this treatment sucked the stagnated blood from deep in the muscle tissue and brought this stagnated blood to the surface. thus, allowing new blood into the injury for healing. thx for the news!
muslimgirluk, there are no scars. the suction created by the cup pulls the stagnated blood out towards the surface skin. usually the discoloration is gone within a few days to a week.
from what I've read and seen, if you have stagnant blood in your body, this blood will be sucked up and leave a dark mark. If the blood is normal, you won't see huge dark red marks. Cupping enables you to suck up the stagnant blood that causes certain disorders and enable the lymphatic system to dispose of it.
Benefits can include but are not limited to curative relief from many types of pain, as well as speeding healing time for injuries and much much more.
The marks disappear in a few days. Patients are not always left with the discoloration. It does feel good. Moving cups is like a great massage. The cost depends on who you go to.
Ughhh!! I was told that I need cupping done to me, but there is NO WAY i'm going to do it after seeing that! They looked like giant disgusting blood blisters and he almost looked like he was bleeding around where the rim was. nooooo....sorry, I'm sure it works, but not for me. eww
I am the acupuncturist that did the treatment in the video. I wanted to say that it wasn't bleeding around the rim of the cup. It was some balm that I used to maintain good suction and move it around where I need to without breaking the seal. It really isn't as painful as it looks. The benefits outweigh the short term discomfort. You should give it a try. But use a liscensed acupuncturist.
The cups are washed afterwards with a three part process in most clinics. Soap and water, hard core cleaner, then rinse in plain water and left to dry.
there is stretching and pulling but it is much more then that. i was the patient so i'll give my version. i had chronic pain in the neck and shoulder; stagnated chi in my blood produced the pain; the cupping suctions this trapped blood to the surface so it can be released and re-establish the chi flow.
a common practice(not shown in this video) is after the stagnated blood is cupped to the surface, then to prick the skin and then cup/suction out the blood into the cup. Thank you for your comment. MKG
In my case, it was a few days to no longer than a week. I would assume length of time varied depending on skin pigment, location of application and injury to name a few. MKG
You are also correct. Cupping is a multicultural modality. Cupping has been used in the middle east, europe, china, vietnan, etc. It was even used in America around the time of our civil war. It is a shame that it has been abandoned. It is a very simple low tech way to heal your self and family
That is really cool. What did did Muhammad (pbuh) also recommend it for? Do you know where I could read more about that? I have also heard about using text for the koran written on paper to help a person heal. I love all aspects of traditional medicine.
Not at all painful. The initial dragging of the cup across the meridians is a 'grin and bear it' moment since the cup is pulling on the surface skin. Otherwise, no other sensations during the rest of the session except for how strange this looked! Thanks for asking, MKG
the process: does it hurt?
