It might also be talking about the lack of trust in paper money today. Many people today believe paper money is worthless and instead use precious metals. Just a guess.

Flobots have a lot more good songs than Handlebars. Their Universal label comes from the part of Universal that deals with rap, mainstream pop, and urban singers/bands, so I do suppose they're universal. They're universal in a whole other way, though!

People seem to easily forget that all elected officials who may be deemed "corrupt" are also people, and they weren't born into the government. You can't simply say that public opinion is superior to that of elected officials; people voting in the public are also likely to have distorted opinions. We need smarter voting and decision and the ability to remove corruption more easily, not some half-brained rebellion against government control. What will that form? Just a new system of control..

It was regular civilians wanting to be free from Britain, and they just met together to discuss stuff. Today, being a politician is considered a career, and you get payed for it. Not back then. Back then they did politics on the side because they wanted to help out the country. Now the politicians are so distant from us, they don't even know what it's like. They don't know what we go through...

@artuno1207 The government was not just comprised of ordinary citizens during the american revolution. They were wealthy merchants and creditors, land and slave owners, not the common yeoman farmer. It really isn't any different now, you have the wealthy elite in power, with common people able to obtain positions to a lesser extent. I was mostly trying to say that a rebellion would only end up with a new system of control, not necessarily a better one.

@540luke The people aren't necessarily meant to have "the last word period". That's a direct democracy. The United States government is a representative democracy; we vote for people to represent the public opinion as accurately as possible. Now, granted, it's not a perfect system but imo, it's more effective than giving power directly to the people. Many politicians are corrupt but, in all fairness, the people are generally less informed and more apt to be swayed by misinformation.

Also, I don't see how the Taliban (dictatorship) is better than, or even equal to, our government in any way. Like @NeonLucarioz (Winston Churchill) said, democracy is the most effective form of government, period. It's definitely flawed, but I haven't heard of anything that will work better.
