Yes John Mayer can be a douche....however, there is no denying that he is an insanely good blues player. If you doubt me, just listen to the "Where the Light Is: Live in LA" album. Freaking ridiculous.
@Jst0911 No no I like fuzz a lot but is the quality of the sound that I don't like... It's like compare a cheap amp with a good tube amp... that sounds like a cheap amp...
I love how he has all the money he could ask for, and spends it on amazing guitars. Not super flashy clothes (like EVERY 'celebrity' out there). Nope, he's on national tv wearing golf shorts and a polo.
Sometimes you want to hear the same solo as the studio album. If he or she plays different solo in concert than you say ''No, i don't want that shit!!I want to hear the same solo!!'' But dude John Mayer is amazing guitar player.I listen that solo like 24/7.Thanks John
@breachmania keith carlock, he is unbelievable. Saw him last year, he went absolutely crazy for a couple of minutes! and he also used to be really fat
0:42 isn't that lovely! Two men nodding their heads cause they know this is badass! Unlike youtubers going online writing "DUH THIS IS CLAPTONS SONG AND HE IS BETTER!!"
First off: no it's not Claptons, it's Robert Johnson, and it's been covered by multiple people!
Secondly: it's no fuckin competetion! But if it is, do it better pleeease!
@PantheraLeoable He plays in the John Mayer Trio, and occasionally live on tourfor the main band, but for most of the part he doesnt play in the main band.
ye thats tru he needs to get out of the pop game, although he said his next album is gunna be more of a trio album, which means his next album is gunna be bluesy
@MrWillyMusic dude his "pop" music (exclude your body and daughters) is much much much much better than todays pop music...like beiber gaga and kesha crap..so respect it
@seanshowtime1996 oh man i know that. but why do u say exclude daughters?? daughters is an awesome song, it all comes down to actual talent, that kesha broad wouldnt be anywhere without her computer edited voice, JM, in my opinion i one of the best musicians alive right now
@MrWillyMusic he definatley is. he shouldnt stop his pop music because if he inspire more pop musicians to make good music, pop music can totally change. hes brilliant with blues though
from a guitarist point of view all the things he does with guitar is already done before by different guitarist he just mix then together and makes them sound different nd new.
i challenge anyyone to show me a guitarist (other than a select few like the legends that r still alive) that can play guitar like john mayer, this solo in unbelievable, and about the drummer, i dont think he overplayed the song at allll, he's unreal to, not the same as steve jordan, theyre totally different drummers, but keith is still unreal, saw him live a couple months ago
@musicdude195 dude Bonamassa has absolutely fantastic control when needed. John Mayer is a mediocre blues player compared to Bonamassa. Also, in this vid, he Mayer doesn't compose a single half rest in the entire solo. it was just lick after lick. JB's more fluent and much more expressive and free in his playing. In addition, he's quite a bit more versatile.
@LedZeppelinisgod100 I can understand people saying John Mayer is a mediocre blues player. I am a fan; not big, or huge - just a fan I do feel he leans towards to too much adaptions and taking the essence out of such songs as Crossroads and making it "pop" sounding, but Joe Bonmassa, Gary Moore, and such are not blues players either - there still rock as well. Blues is Robert Johnson, B.B. King, j.B Lenoir, and the creators everything since has been adaptions
@LedZeppelinisgod100 dude bonamassa is more of a metal player than blues player he used to be good before he started trying to play like eric johnson, John Mayer is a better BLUES player.
@musicdude195 i wouldn't say metal player. rock player, yeah. but Bonamassa can play much sweeter blues than Mayer. Mayer plays POPULAR blues, Clapton-style stuff that's a bit simpler and a bit more tame. he's good, he's just not as talented or versatile in blues as Bonamassa.
@LedZeppelinisgod100 Bonamassa plays more mainstream blues he even said it he tries to play british 60's style blues like cream or john mayal and the bluesbreakers, John Mayer plays more BB King, Buddy Guy, SRV, which is more blues than what bonamassa plays which is rock all the way.
@musicdude195 Yeah he's playing British style blues, but Mayer does not sound or play BB king style. Bonamassa has that covered hands down. I agree that Mayer's playing more Buddy Guy and SRV style. but come on, SRV is has now become a generic figure in the blues. his style anyway.
@LedZeppelinisgod100 Mayer is better than bonamassa, you just like bonamassa because you obviously like that 60's and 70's rock sound I mean your youtube name is ''LedZeppelinisgod100'' bonamassa is more 60's 70's rock, dont even think he can out play mayer when come to blues, SRV was the best guitarist of all time period and Mayer has a vey similar style without sounding exactly like him, but we are not going to agree on this you are coming from a rock standpoint and im coming from a blues.
@musicdude195 Okay man way to generalize a name. I like jazz and fusion honestly more than i like rock anymore. and if that's your argument, my name, i can't even take your views seriously. SRV wasn't even closest to the best of all time. He was good, VERY good. but he's hyped as hell. he was talented, but no where near as innovative as Beck or as soulful as Hendrix. I'm not coming from a rock standpoint. I'm coming from an encompassing blues standpoint, considering all players and veins of it.
@LedZeppelinisgod100 dude you have no idea what you are talking about Jeff Beck is one of the most overrated guitarists of all time! I like him but way over hyped, Jimi hendrix is one of my favorite guitarists of all time but SRV is the best Jimi started it but SRV took it to the next level, SRV is just as if not more soulful than hendrix, I mean listen to him no one could put more soul in a note than SRV.
@musicdude195 dude, Jeff Beck is easily one of the most underrated. Clapton is overrated as hell. he's a GREAT player, don't get me wrong. but because beck went into instrumental/fusion and new genres that he made all his own, he fell out of popular circles. i believe clapton said: "he's a musicians musician." and man, he was right.
with regards to hendrix/SRV. i love both, but Hendrix was the original, wilder and more expressive. a lot of SRV sounds the same to me. hendrix covered more.
If you were to ask me, Hendrix is overhyped. He's an innovator and I don't deny him that, but SRV could play circles around him. There's no comparison.
@regelemihai sure SRV could PLAY circles around him, but he can't compose or create circles around him. Hendrix is a bit overhyped, but not that much considering what he gave the world.
He's not overhyped in terms of his contribution and musical genius, I agree. But I think it's unfair to consistently place him at the top of the all time greatest guitar players list. SRV maybe didn't compose as much as Jimi, but as far as technique goes I don't see many who can claim to be better. There are, but not too many.
@regelemihai well he was a guitar player, and his musical contributions were felt throughout the world and are still felt to the same extent. so, i think that would qualify him as one of the best easily. but i gotta give it to SRV that his technique and fluidity is brilliant.
@LedZeppelinisgod100 i hear both u guys, i feel the samee way, SRV playing wise is aloottt better than jimi, but when it comes to contribution to the music world theres no comparison really, the reason i like john mayer so much is the fact that right now in our time (alive), other than a select few, nobody plays the guitar like him, he's gunna be a legend like clapton in the future, guarenteed
@MrWillyMusic i wouldn't say that's guaranteed, the way he's been cranking out pop recently. if he pursues his blues with full intent and would care just a little less about chicks and popularity (both of which, he already has) he could really be a legend. because frankly, he is a damn fine player, when he plays like this.
@MrPocketGroover haha they are both way better than you or me, and keith carlock is fucking amazing. I saw mayer live, about a week after this show, and they were all incredible. even the sax player, bob reynolds, killed it.
This has got to be the best performance of Crossroads so far! But i noticed something, whenever he changes his hair; he changes the clothes style with it. :) . i dnt really care. He's fuggin hot!
