What a great time in Rock and one of the worlds greatest Rock bands! I was lucky enough to play with Ian Gillan back in 2006...what a complete gentleman...
I listened to this for the first time in 1979 as a 13 year old! and for years I imagined what they would look like on stage. In those days no video, no DVD, no film, no tape, NO INTERNET, NOTHING at all other than the RECORD!
I kinda know what you're talking about, although I'm born in 1991.When I started listening to DP I was about 8-9 and I didn't have a PC and internet but only 2 CDs ("Platinum Collection" or something like that) and I only imagined how they looked like until 2-3 years later when I first actually saw them. It was sooo strange... :D Of course, now I have every album, every concert, every bootleg... just everything by DP! :D They may have put a spell on me when I was a child :)
I think the live B&W video is from Sweden about 1972 around the time of machine head album. Possible just before. Ive some other clips of them doing lazy and looked like they didn't really know the song well. Just another little bit of info.. The picture on Made in Japan was taken in London at The Rainbow theater. Before they went to Japan. If you look in the bottom r/h corner you can make out the Rainbow logo
Hell yeah, "Who Do We" is a great piece of work, with some killer keyboard solos, and devestating drumming. Especially "Rat Bat Blu", and "Smooth Dancer". Great musicians are often their own harshest critics.
@charlessavarese Yeah that album is perhaps one of the most underrated albums in rock history. But really there were great songs on it like Mary Long and Place In Line
Yeah, "Who Do We Think We Are" is a FANTASTIC piece of work, even more because it was recorded by a band which had already broken itself apart. My favourite from this album is Super Trouper.
Look, the critics criticized The Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, and much more... They were criticized always at first, but as soon as they get really famous, then the critics changed... Wtf? The critics only goes what the people think...
The funny thing is that the opposite thing happened with Kiss and Queen...
When they were underground Rolling Stone gave them glowing reviews, but the second they became famous Kiss was called "repetitive" and Queen "over indulgent." What a bunch of bullshit! (Though to be fair both bands went downhill eventually)
srtyxczewlsrolkid I have published the entire video, this is only the part 4. If you look at my video can see the others 6, the whole DVD! Greeting to Poland from Italy
I have the dvd and I have loaded him on my computer, then I have divided the video in 7 parts because it is too much long for youtube... Good vision a regard from Italy. CIAO
I've seen Purple three times live, and heard numerous concerts... I've NEVER heard Lord play a bad concert.

annex to Madison Sq.Gard N.YC..I was privilaged to be there..IT was BETTER
than the even this ROCK CLASSIC..REALLY...the stage was mobile and ROSE
with dry ice teaming all over as they belted out Smoke on the Water...followed
by SPACE TRUCKIN.....THANK YOU GOD for letting me witness that...I am
Eternally GRATEFUL. The Jockey who was with me Freaked out but luckily
he had me to help him maintain....ROCK HEAVEN !!!

good documentary but it also shows that critics don't know shit do they? that is why they are criticizers and not onstage them self.

I agree with the guy who stated the live stuff on MIJ sounded better than the originals.I always thought this album was totally polished
and their peak.Somehow I. Paice seemed to completely come into his own, from there on.
