How on earth do you get singles that fast? In any way are you using heel toe? If not, what's the technique that stops you from tensing the muscles when you try and go faster.
And please don't say practice... need to know what to practice...
@MikePostDrums But I said please don't say practice. You obviously practice something. And you didn't answer my question about the heel and toe. It kinda looks like you're using heel and toe.
@taikogroove I'm not sure about the heel-toe, but either way.. it does come down to practice. No one is going to play this song at this speed at their first try. It took Tomas Haake 6 months.
You're using the case as kick/"training pad" that's quite cool, I'd like to try that too so I can drum without disturbing my neighbours. How do you get the pedals to stick to the ground like that?
@Villex93 No, the video is misleading, it's just a whole bunch of hertas, which is a rudiment consisting of two notes of a certain value (ie. 32nd notes) and then two notes of precisely half as much (ie. 16ths). The whole pattern the song is based on is two 32nd notes and then two 16th notes.
Can you please give some mic placement tips for using the suitcase live? Also, when you use the cases while touring, do you have to use other cases for transporting them? Do the Asian or European cases work best?
@Claggy - yeah...very tough to understand why he isn't rolling backwards...but that can probably be explained by his balance and center of gravity as he's playing. Good form goes a LOOOOOONG way man. Imagine his foot moving in a more up and down motion, as opposed to pushing the pedal which would cause the rolly chair to move backwards. Pushing the pedal comes from bad posture and being off-balance while you sit. Then again, he could have something behind the chair stopping it from moving.
How do you get your pedals to flow so easily? What types of pedals are those? I have Iron Cobras and I'm a relatively new drummer (a few months now) and for the life of me I can't get a good nice flowing motion out of my ICs. They are the Power Glides but I don't see why they wouldn't at least some some sort of flow to where I can get some decent speed? Do you have high tension on your pedals?
I commented before but re-visited this now and would just like to comment on the awesome heel-toe in shoes on standard pedals on a triggered suit case.
@basement94 My gut feeling after the first few listens was what jerepoeka said, and after a million more listens I still think its 4/4 hands and 5/2 feet. As long as you can play it though, it really doesn't matter, right? haha
@kichermann you could do that, but it is much more tiring on your right leg to do that for the entire length of the song, thats why you spread them out evenly between both legs
@kosmadrummer This is actually a phenomenal explanation, given the fact that you only had text to use. Btw, this completely got me to understand the rhythm! Kudos man! And thanks for the post!
@BloodPython67 its a herta. if you have ever marched before that rudement is called a herta. look up hertas. its very complicated to explain in text but its a marching snare rudement. i would learn it with you hands first accenting on the snare hits.
Very, very cool! I also like the innovation of using a small suitcase as your kick. I have been thinking of blowing $50 on a Gibraltar practice pad. Now I'll look around the house! Thanks, bro! I'm inspired.
bien!! oye tu estas usando los powershifter eliminators no? i son esos me peudes decir como puedo hacer para que el pedal esclavo (izq) quede igual de suave que el derecho? esque por mas que intento no lo puedo poner igual :S
