JFK reduced taxes because it was necessary to stimulate given the economic environ. at the time. The rich in that era were paying around 91% tax. Today, it's around 36% to nothing. The rich corp. now have acquired to much wealth which is dangerous because they have ALOT of money to lobby Washington! I always like to use the example of building a home. When you build a home you start from the ground up right, not from the roof on down. Common sense. The economy is much like a home, its a structure with a foundation, the foundation representing the middle class, and small business; The roof and the rest of the home being the rich, banks, and corporations. Another point, Medicare is a big expenditure in this country. Why? Well, insurance, and pharmaceutical companies overcharge for services, and prescriptions on purpose to make a profit; So Medicare is costing the governemt, or us, alot more than what it should! Think about this, next time you visit your doctor, realize that he is overcharging for the service. You go to the pharmacy at the end of the visit, and they are overcharging for the prescription. Drive around for a half a day, in a heavily populated part of town, and observe who is driving the latest luxury automobiles that you have to, one way or another, have a higher income to be able to afford. That is why when you fill a job application it specifically says we are a equal job opportunity employer, we do not discriminate on a basis of race, religion, gender, you get the picture. This allow for candidates to be considered on a basis of credentials only. Whites most of the time prefer other whites, and chinese prefer other chinese to work for them. It's human nature. Umm government revenue started increase from 2002 to 2007 after the tax cuts.

And how have tax cuts become "spending"....If you cut taxes its possible to actually raise government revenues. During periods after the initial bush tax cuts Government revenue from income tax was actually up for a couple of years. The real problem lies in the fact that from 2003 until now Government spending has nearly doubled.

How does taxing the wealthy raise an extra 3 tril in revenue over this periord?

Government spending should increase during a recession.

Taxing the wealthy doesn't have to raise 3 trillion. It is part of the solution, not the entire solution.

@coryquince Tax cuts and higher tax revenue is a chicken vs. egg debate. You say the government doesn't need to raise 3 trillion from taxes but the facts are clear. Since WWII we have at a minimum have held around 2 trillion in debt. Since 1980 public debt has grown 10 trillion dollars with a small dip during the height of our economy in the 1990s.

Its fine if you are for taxes, but the reality is clear. The government is reluctant to cut federal spending to decrease this debt

This leads politicians to increase spending and decrease taxes. in the long run, this is obviously unsustainable, but presidents aren't around for the long run, they get four or eight years. Still, this would be a stupid time to make drastic cuts to services and jobs people need now. A double-dip would be a disaster.
