I think this is a lipsync. For many of these Russian TV shows Vitas lipsyncs and it's often obvious because his throat doesn't move etc.
As for the "voice cracking," sometimes the audience does something REALLY stupid. Search up Vitas Star in Qingdao, some guy in the audience sings along and sounds strange (a bit like Vitas but not the same voice); the sound mixer sucked and put WAY too much echo into Vitas' voice. But here I think one of the Children screamed as they have mics...

I'm a Russian fan! This happened in the 70s! I'm afraid thats not Vitas. Vitas sang this song, but this particular video shows the original guy singing the song. When Vitas sang this song later on, he sang it with this guy, (who looked much older by then) 8D
and something weird happen.. how can his high note still clearly heard at 2:20 ? but I love his high note!
