  • Here's the rest: She was told that the name Lacy B. Walker was already taken, so she took the last name of her favorite singer, Karen Dalton, and added the middle initial J (for Jill) to become Lacy J. Dalton.

  • @cracklinrosie11 thank you for "the rest of the story" as Paul Harvey would say. I knew she had been married at some point but didn't know all the rest. An interesting story about an interesting singer!

  • Lacy J. Dalton was my idol in the early to mid-'80s, and she remains a favorite of mine. Here is the story behind her name. She became Jill Croston after she married a man named John Croston, who left her widowed after he died in a freak swimming accident. When she was signed to Columbia Records circa 1979, the label exec told her that she needed a stage name. She always said that if she had to change her name, she would change it to Lacy B. Walker, the name of an acquaintance's wife (continued)

  • @cracklinrosie11 interesting. and this comment is like a cliffhanger!

  • wonderful, droll song Lacy J. dalton is the most under-rated singer of all time.

  • Wow, I am a Lacy J fan. Had no idea on the history of her name. Thanks.

  • @Mztee54 @Mztee54 go to google, search "Country music: a biographical dictionary" and you should come up with a google book that has more information about her and how her name came about.
